Trails of Geese
Between the skies getting washed out by a waxing crescent moon and the arrival of unforecast clouds, last night was a bit of a bust. I tried to make the most of it with this 20m star trail shot, but ended up wrapping up a couple hours early and getting more sleep than I planned. ;-)
Image made with my Olympus OM-D e-M1.2 and the m.Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 Pro lens and NiSi Natural Night filter. Image processed in On1 Photo RAW 2020.

Sunset at Rosy Mound Natural Area in Grand Haven, MI. Used Live Composite with a 10-stop ND filter to create the effect in the sky.
This is a 12 minute Live Composite exposure. A plane flew through at about 7 minutes, but I let the camera run a few more minutes anyway. I never tried cloning out a plane trail intersecting star trails, but it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I haven't tried to replace the moving crane yet. That might not be as clean looking when done.
The first thunderstorm, in our area, of Spring 2016. The entire amount of time it took for these eight bolts to strike was about 45 seconds. It was nature's strobe light show; and it all happened on Easter!
Here's the latest in my architectural star trail series. There are some lights on at One57, but I don't believe it's finished yet. I wonder what that thing is on the top of the building.

This Live Composite shot turned out better than I expected. The Flatiron Building is quite dark to the naked eye at night, but a long exposure just brightens up the facade and the stars.

I broke out my 20mm pancake yesterday. This was my first m43 lens which I put on the shelf a long time ago in favor of fast zooms and Voigtlander primes. Looking at this shot, it reminds me that the Panasonic 20mm is still a good lens.

This is what happens when the clouds clear part way through a 3hr exposure; it looks like the star trails are in front of the clouds. Melbourne airport from Loemans Rd.

I had a few minutes waiting for the train back to Manhattan, so I took some more light trail shots of the Triborough Bridge. I used the Voigtlander Nokton 25mm, which gave a nice wide view, but it flared very badly. I've cloned out most of the flare, but I'm not totally happy with the result.
One more look from the Dr Jose Rizal Bridge overlooking I-90, I-5 and downtown Seattle.

My second attempt at astrophotography. Different night, different lens, different exposure, but same subject as the earlier example in my photostream. Some clouds moved in during the exposure, which I don't mind. I also prefer the wider focal length. While the one-stop change in exposure made for less blown-out windows, there was a cost in the number of star trails captured -- which after all was the point. Pluses, minuses.
Despite the rain, Light the Night had a great turnout in Portland, OR 24 1sec LiveComposite exposures composited in camera using the Olympus Live Composite shutter mode. O2696

My Grandmother ( *1895 ) married in 1913 and received a Villeroy & Boch China set.
We gave the plates to our daughter-in-law and today the granddaughters use them daily with their mother and father.
We kept the creamer, the sauce boat and the big plate. As a small boy - in the early fifties - the royal blue tendrils on the creamy surface fascinated me.
I spent several hours in Hoboken last night taking pictures with the ultimate goal of shooting fireworks scheduled for 11:30. The show started at 11:40 and lasted less than 4 minutes, which is disappointing. I don't know what event the fireworks were supporting, but it hardly seems worth the expense for a display running that short.

This is the third from the series last night at Astoria Boulevard. I started with a 35mm lens, then a 45mm and here a 75mm.
The last of my set of a recent trip to the reasonably dark skies of central NY.
