Boston National Historical Park (NHP) is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (National Register) under Criteria A, B, C, and D . Largely tied together by the 2.5-mile-long path known as the Freedom Trail, the Boston NHP (the District) comprises a collection of iconic, nationally significant resources that are associated with seminal events in the founding and organization of the United States and with later trends that led to their commemoration and preservation. The District derives its primary significance under Criterion A at the national level in the area of Military History and Politics/Government as the site of the opening campaigns of the Revolutionary War during the Siege of Boston (1775-1776) and pivotal events associated with the founding and growth of the new country, including the establishment of the United States Navy. The District also meets Criterion A at the national level in the areas of Commemoration and Conservation for its association with the development of nationalistic movements that placed value on distinctly American history and architecture. Under Criterion B, the District possesses national significance for its associations with Paul Revere (1734-1818), a prominent political figure whose actions during the Revolutionary War helped the American colonies to gain independence from Great Britain. The District meets Criterion C at the national level in the areas of Architecture and Engineering for its influential representation of monumental architecture in the United States, including key national examples of Colonial, Georgian, and Naval design completed by notable architects. The Bunker Hill Monument was among the first large-scale architectural monuments completed in the country and was the first to be designed in the obelisk form that was later adopted for the Washington Monument in Washington, DC, and many other national monuments. The Dorchester Heights Monument is a later example of a Colonial Revival monumental design that represents the work of the nationally prominent architectural firm of Peabody and Steams. The district is also eligible under Criterion Cat the national level in the area of Landscape Architecture for the Charlestown Navy Yard's landscape which retains its early to mid-nineteenth century landscape elements, including those associated with the 1828 Master Plan designed by the prominent civil engineer Loammi Baldwin. The Bunker Hill Monument landscape is a significant example of the work of noted landscape architect Arthur A. Shurcliff. Another example of Shurcliff work is represented at Old North Church complex, which features a well-preserved early to mid-twentieth-century garden, courtyard, and terrace. The district is also eligible for listing under Criterion D at the national level for its demonstrated and potential ability to yield substantive information about the form and function of military fortifications at important Revolutionary War battle sites, and about the infrastructural development of one of the oldest shipbuilding facilities in the United States. The District also is eligible for listing under Criterion D at the local level for its demonstrated and potential ability to yield data about pre-contact period settlement and patterns of environmental change; urban growth and landmaking activities in Boston; municipal waste and water practices in the north End from the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries; and consumption and settlement patterns of military and civilian communities from the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries. The Old North Church and Old South Meeting House meet Criteria Consideration A as historically religious properties that are significant for their architectural distinction, connections to significant people and events of the Revolutionary War, and associations with noted historic preservation efforts of the nineteenth century. The commemorative properties at Bunker Hill and Dorchester Heights meet Criteria Consideration F as prominent components of the Boston NHP landscape that have achieved historical significance for their association with the growing national awareness of and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the Revolutionary War generation during the early to mid-nineteenth century. The period of significance for Boston NHP extends from 1680, the earliest date associated with a historic resource, to 197 4 when federal legislation established the national park. The historic period contains overlapping periods of thematic importance, from the events that instigated the American Revolutionary War through efforts to commemorate and preserve properties associated with the war and the birth of the nation. The significant period for military and political associations begins with the writs of assistance in 1761 and extends through the peak of active use at the Charlestown Navy Yard up to 1974. Other phases of important events include the commemoration of the Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1974; historic preservation from the saving of Old South Meeting House in 1876 to the publication of the Boston National Historic Sites Commission's final report in 1961; Paul Revere's association with the Revere House from 1770 to 1800; and archeology from 1742 to 1814.

I think this is Mt Lister (4025m, seen from our helo ride back from the Taylor Glacier), although I am not sure -- that would be the high point in the Royal Society Range. Pretty sure the big one in front is the Ferrar Glacier.

Oehler Mill Complex
Shelby, Wisconsin
Listed 5/22/2013
Reference Number: 13000314
The Oehler Mill Complex is being nominated to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) for its local significance under National Register (NR) Criterion C, architecture. It is significant at the local level with a period of significance of 1862-1907, dates encompassing the construction of the mill and the associated buildings of the milling complex. Research was undertaken to assess this potential utilizing the NR significance area of Architecture, a theme that is also identified in the State of Wisconsin's Cultural Resource Management Plan (CRMP). This research centered on evaluating the resources in the Complex utilizing the Italianate Style and Stone Construction subsections of the Architectural Styles study unit, and the Milling subsection of the Industry study unit portions of the CRMP. 17 The results of this research are detailed below and determined that the Complex's fine stone and brick Astylistic Utilitarian Vernacular Form flour mill building and its two fine associated brick Italianate style houses are locally significant under Criterion C, architecture. The mill is a now exceptionally rare example of an early rural flour and grist mill and its significance is heightened by the fact that the houses of Valentine Oehler and Gottfried Oehler, the two brothers who built it and ran it, are both extant and are situated on either side of it.

One of the finest interiors of any synagogue in Europe. Open this month as part of the Brighton Fringe Festival (see below for times). Come along and discover a small part of Brighton's history you may have never known about. Brighton's Jewish community steatches back to the late 18th century and its first synagogue pre-dates the first Catholic or Methodist places of worship in the city even! Famous people connected with the place include lords and ladies, politicians, leaders of industry, authors, composers, architects and even the guy that founded Ben Sherman!
To conserve it for the enjoyment of future generations of people from all communities and backgrounds Middle Street Synagogue is in urgent need of funds. Please get in touch if you would like to help out in any way.
The building was constructed in 1874-5 and was benefacted to by many famous 19th century names which ultimately led to the creation of the unique artistic scheme inside. It is a Grade II* listed building being an extremely sumptuous example of high Victorian design and is almost certainly the most ornate building in Brighton outside the Royal Pavilion.
Middle Street is open to the public every Sunday in May 2pm-5pm then every first Sunday of each month through to October.
We are happy to organize private group tours by arrangement for schools, historical societies, religious groups, art and photographic societies, architecture students, etc. (more)

Here's a sample of my new wedding photography price list - a bookmark! I wanted to do something a little bit unique (while also being functional.) My intent was to create something that people will think twice about before tossing in the trash can. I have to say a special thanks to Steve Held for helping me transform the design from something static to something I'm now very happy with.

The Lister Block, first built in 1886, was destroyed by fire in 1923 and the second building was erected in 1924. This Classic Renaissance building is 32,000 square feet (3,000 m2) with Six floors and sits on the corner of James and King William Street. The original building built in 1886 only had Four floors. It was the first indoor commercial mall in Canada and is currently owned by LIUNA- Laborers' International Union of North America. The building one time was also home for the local Oldies 1150 CKOC radio station which has been on the air since May 1, 1922 and as of the year 2000 is the oldest radio station in English Canada, second oldest overall.
The Lister Block is named for Joseph Lister, the original owner, who was a merchant, clothier, member of the city's Board of Water Commissioners and school trustee. His goal was to build a "most modern and central accommodation" for small merchants at modest rent.
It was the centre of community life in Hamilton for much of the last century. It was built with excellent materials and workmanship during prosperous times in the city before stock markets crashed in 1929. One of the few buildings of its type in Ontario west of Toronto. Its style is more frequently seen in American Great Lakes cities.

BIBURY CHURCH ROAD SP 1006-1106 (east end) 11/72 Church of St. Mary 26.1.61 GV I Parish church. Mid-late C11; late C12 and early C13 enlargement; C14 and C15 alterations. 1863 restoration by Gilbert Scott; late C19 restoration by Waller and Son. Random and coursed rubble limestone; stone slate roof. Nave with north and south aisles; south porch, north west tower and chancel. Round arched south doorway with single roll moulded order and hoodmould with stiff- leaf stops. Transitional south porch with dogtooth enrichment to pointed archway. Parapet lean-to roof to short early C13 south aisle with small lancet windows; large C15 Perpendicular-traceried window inserted right of porch. South nave wall clearly displays the progressive enlargement of the church. Section of wall immediately to left of aisle is C11 with original circular clerestory window surviving; C13 lancet below. Extension to west appears late C12 with pilaster buttresses and moulded mid-height string courses. Two lancets set at high level. C15 clerestory with crenellated parapet and 2-light windows, 3 trefoil headed, one to west with ogee tracery. Clasping buttresses to west end of nave with large 5-light Perpendicular-traceried window; crenellated parapet gable with central lancet recess and flanking recesses. Similar buttresses to lower stage of tower; C15 belfry with 2- light trefoil headed openings and crenellated parapet. Buttressed north aisle with C14 Decorated windows; C12 north doorway reset, has chevron arch and carved abaci, plain tympanum having had later trefoil cut-out. Various lancets to chancel, one on north side with low sill, formerly shuttered below glazing; elaborately carved fragment of Saxon pilaster in adjacent chancel wall. Fine arcaded east triplet dating from C13 extension of chancel. Small rectangular window on south side illuminates altar. Interior: limewashed with nave arcades of different dates. Transitional north arcade is unusual, being interrupted by short lengths of wall; one cylindrical pier has scalloped capital. East respond has elaborately carved capital, otherwise capitals are scalloped or waterleaf types. One arch has chevrons; 3 to east have keeled shafts. Saxon nave pilasters are still partially surviving in north aisle above arcade. C13 Early English 3-bay south arcade. Ten-bay Perpendicular tie-beam roof; 3 tiers of cusped windbracing. Saxon jambs and imposts to C13 chancel arch breaking through Saxon string course above. Some surviving fragments of what is assumed to be a stone rood are visible above string course; 2 blocked windows have Perpendicular cusped heads. East wall of chancel has 3 aumbries; many other aumbries in side walls. C16 seat in chancel is said to be part of a bedstead. Pulpit in nave, probably by Scott. Square early C13 transitional font in south aisle has 4 corner and one central pillar, outer with rope mouldings. Transitional 2-bay arcade to each face of bowl. Early-mid C18 set of ledger slabs in nave to COXWELL family of Bibury Court. Two fine marble memorials with obelisk backgrounds on north chancel wall, ELIZABETH WARNEFORD, died 1756, and ANNE ESTCOURT CRESSWELL, died 1791. Memorial slab in north aisle inscribed in latin: 'REVERENDI BENIAMINI WYNNINGTON', died 1673. Fine stained glass to principal windows, east by T. Willement of 1855, west by Wailes, probably 1860s. Small window lighting altar retains some C13 glass. The extent of Saxon remains allow a reasonable reconstruction of the immediately pre-conquest church. Of great interest also are the Transitional features, especially the carved capitals to the north arcade, part of a series of alterations by the monks of Oseney after their appropriation of the church in 1151.
