in 1787, New Bredford town was formally established. It soon became home to whalers, fishermen, textile workers and shipbuilders. The city reached its peak as the center of the whaling industry in 1857, sending out more ships than all other American ports combined and leading to its status as the richest city per capita in the world.
To capture a quiet moment, I waited till mid-morning around 3 AM when the fishermen were at rest. I went out to the pier, set up and wanted to shoot this photo showing the pier at its quietest moment. However soon, the security guard drove through this pier, stopped and asked what I was doing. After a conversation with him, he was convinced I am not a reporter and allowed me to shoot... The perspective was to capture both sides of the pier with the boats parked waiting for the morning dawn to sail. The spool showing the net was in my aim but just wanted to capture it at the edge of the photo... The spool sure was an added bonus to the photo.

Yes, we are still standing after the NATO Summit! Who knew? I have photographic proof and sore feet from walking a few miles to the shore of the Adler Planetarium. First attempt at long exposure after dark. I think the initials of "CPD" are for the Chicago Police Dept. and for their job in making sure that Chicago still stood after NATO. Anyone know for sure? And by the way, that real tall building? The Sears Tower aka the Willis Tower was worked on by my Dad! He did the heating and air conditioning as he was in the Sheet Metal Union at the time along with many others.

This past weekend we decided to peaks, which we do almost every year in the month of September. We have been fortunate to have a fantastic time, and even be able to step on snow in some sections of our ascent. At sunset, as usually done in September, the mist covered valley Valdeón, letting us see as the last rays of sun on the surface esparramaban sea of clouds, but in the final minutes behind some cloud Peña Santa remaining sunlight and the mist rose before us creating magic and filled with light and color ...

[From Wikipedia]
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel through arch bridge across Sydney Harbour that carries rail, vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district (CBD) and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of Sydney, New South Wales, and Australia. The bridge is nicknamed "The Coathanger" because of its arch-based design.
Under the directions of Dr J.J.C. Bradfield of the NSW Department of Public Works, the bridge was designed and built by British firm Dorman Long and Co Ltd of Middlesbrough and opened in 1932. The bridge's design was influenced by the Hell Gate Bridge in New York. It was the world's widest long-span bridge, at 48.8 meters (160 feet) wide, until construction of the new Port Mann Bridge in Vancouver. It is also the fifth longest spanning-arch bridge in the world, and it is the tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 metres (440 ft) from top to water level.
The southern (CBD) bridge end is located at Millers Point in The Rocks area, and the northern end at Milsons Point in the lower North Shore area. It carries six lanes of road traffic on its main roadway, while on its eastern side are two lanes of road traffic (formerly two tram tracks) and a footpath, and on its western side are two railway tracks and a bicycle path, making the western side 30.5 cm (12 in) broader than the eastern side.
The main roadway across the bridge is known as the Bradfield Highway and is about 2.4 kilometres (1.5 miles) long, making it one of the shortest highways in Australia.

Forests are ecosystems essential for life. They are the habitat of many living things, regulate water, conserve soil and the atmosphere and provide many useful products. In inland areas of more than 50% air humidity is caused by water pumped by the roots and transpired through the leaves of the vegetation. When forests are cut down large areas or rainforests the climate becomes drier.

24th May 2014, I went into the City of Sydney to view firsthand the spectacular VIVID SYDNEY 2014, a festival of light, music and ideas. This image is one of my long exposure photographs of the bright and colorful projections of light and patterns on the Sydney Opera House. These colorful projections were continuously changing making Sydney Harbour look like a piece of art.
Many of the ferries also had colorful lighting which just added to the bright and happy atmosphere created by this festival.
Coloring the city with creativity and inspiration, Vivid Sydney highlights include the hugely popular immersive light installations and projections; Vivid Aquatique immersive water theatre; performances from local and international musicians at Vivid LIVE at Sydney Opera House and the Vivid Ideas Exchange featuring public talks and debates from leading global creative thinkers.
The Sydney Opera House was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 28 June 2007. It is one of the 20th century's most distinctive buildings and one of the most famous performing arts centers in the world.
The Sydney Opera House is on Bennelong Point in Sydney Harbour, close to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It sits at the north-eastern tip of the Sydney central business district (the CBD), surrounded on three sides by the harbour (Sydney Cove and Farm Cove) and inland by the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Ants form colonies of a size ranging from a few dozen predatory individuals living in small natural cavities to highly organized colonies which may occupy large territories consist of millions of individuals. These larger colonies consist mostly of sterile wingless females forming castes of "workers", "soldiers" and other groups. Ant colonies also have some fertile males and fertile females or more called "queens". These colonies are sometimes described as super-organisms, because the ants appear to operate as a single entity, collectively working to support the colonia.3
