A street light pole, hidden amongst the trees

I had never walked to Ikea before, so this was new territory.

I am a dusty sparrow with a cheeto in my beak!, and birdlice crawling everyplace I've got. There's a very sturdy-lookin U.S. lightpole.

Were the distant skyline of downtown St.-Paul to occupy a yet-smaller percentage of the photograph's digital surface than it does here, it'd be probably unrecognizable as that. Look at the skyscrapers!

somewhere downtown Madrid - the position on the map does not need to be precise at all, since I spent a couple of hours aimlessly walking in that area

Do you love this color!

I found this assertion on Facebook of all places that the building was a Montgomery Ward store erected circa 1930. It checks out!: Via Proquest I found an announcement in the "Chain Store News" column in a digital scan of the August 1, 1929, issue of Women's Wear Daily that Montgomery Ward had purchased property at this site with plans to build a three-story store.

Old landmark in Sanderson TX... www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/SS/hjs7.html

Sanderson ( population 861 in 2000 ) was hit by a devastating flood back in the mid '60's and it claimed the life of 24 residents. The flooding was so bad that coffins were washed free, and some ended up in Ozona, Texas, 81miles away. Some ended up buried under too much debris against the mountains that surround this little town, and left there, as the expense of digging them out was too great after such a disaster. I have wondered if this flood might have been too much for this business to continue.

Sanderson now has flood dams in place at various key mountain locations to protect the citizens ( hopefully ) against this occurring again...

Between the rippley old window glass and the slow shutter speed, this was already very artistic looking straight from the camera. I'd been wanting to capture the motion of the flags, the curved light poles, and the winter clouds for some time. The bars in the front are window panes. After I did a tutorial on "easy watercolor effect" (http://www.photoshopessentials.com/photo-effects/watercolor-painting/) last night I tried out some of the techniques and then altered them to get something I liked.

The platform at Amtrak stop, Surf, Lompoc, California. As a child, this is the sky that I called "sky blue pink."

Taken at Sonargaon Folk Art and Craft Museum, Sonargaon, Natayanganj, Dhaka.

And the light called to them.

And they came.

And they touched the light.

And were incinerated.

Houston,Texas 7.12.2012

I was blown away with the sky the night this was taken. I absolutely adore sunsets, especially nights like these. The clarity of the moon was beautiful.

Leaving work today I saw this guy atop a lightpole, I could tell he was hunting for something so I waited it out, took about 20 minutes and a lot of people looking at me like I had lost my mind, but it finally paid off when he swooped down and snagged this snake. This is one of the few shots that had his eye in focus, the D300s that's on the way should make the focusing much easier in the future :D

I think this is a red tailed hawk, anyone care to set me straight?

I've always been intrigued by the interesting colors and textures of the various phone and light poles that line our country roads.
