I was panning this Pelican as it came in for a landing on the light pole,

but wasn't quick enough to capture the whole scene as it dislodged a Pacific

Gull from its roost. Wish I could have seen the expression on the gull's

face too !!

It actually looked worse than it was once it started raining. One of those steady 20 minute rains, just enough to get you wet, but not enough to shut the fair down. I checked the radar on the iPhone before leaving the car...good to go, not a cloud in sight...my trusty Totes rain poncho left on the passenger seat, why carry something I'm not going to need...right?

A Wheeling & Lake Erie empty stone train shoves its train towards the siding at Summit Street in downtown Akron. Power for the train is a quartet of SD40-2s, with three in the W&LE's Rio Grande-inspired orange and black and a fourth in ex-CITX leasing blue and white.

I'm not sure if I like this picture. I took several different versions and edited them all differently. I don't know! In the end I decided to pick one because only one could claim the glory. I guess I can always go back later and fiddle if the photo speaks to me still.

The Horsten was build in the 50 in the Zuidwijk Rotterdam. Most of it is already demolished except this little block.

Running over two hours off the advertised, Amtrak's eastbound Capitol Limited makes its usual crossover move from track #1 to #2 at CP Solomon in downtown Pittsburgh. In less than a mile at CP Bloom, the train will take a connecting track to the Allegheny Valley Railroad and then get on CSX at Rankin for the balance of its journey to Washington, DC. A replacement signal for the position-light signal in the parking lot is on the ground to the right of the lead locomotive.

Here it is, The first official day of Fall 2010 in Chubbuck!

Theme of The Week - Pareidolie (Faces in objects)

When you are telling a story and no one is impressed!

. . . "You dare enter my presence mere human?" Female Snowy Owl number 25 sits on her usual light pole and has been here most of the last month, chasing off other owls and oblivious to the traffic jams she creates on the intersection below. At least just about everyone in town who wishes to see the Queen knows where to find her!

Have a great weekend Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!

Hardly a swooping switchback, but I liked this curved feature in an otherwise mundane stretch of bridge. Aided by an industrial pre-set from Lightroom.

Ok, this is one rotten picture, I know. There's a lightpole sticking out the roof, the weather was crappy, and it's front-coupled. Three strikes and you're out. But wait, it is the ICG's only SD45. So, do you walk away? Or do you shoot it and not show it to anyone? Or do you say "what the heck, film is cheap?" At least film used to be cheap. What's a SD card cost? I may never know....
