There is a lot of fun to be found at the library!

Cofrin Library pumpkin contest, Halloween 2012.

Thanks to Leroy Township, CADL Webberville received a facelift, including new carpeting, fresh paint and sections of the collection re-located to make it easier to find items.

Bought several of these at a library surplus sale - it is AMAZING what having the right table can do for motivation to sort and organize the over 3000 LP's I have accumilated in the last twenty years

Each table holds about 400 albums if tight, 350 if a little loose.

And - good a good deal on 700 nice 70's and 80's for about $0.25 each at a garage sale - now have somewhere to put them if I can find room in the house!

And to think - I thought it was extravagent in college to have over 50 as I could only afford about 40! We sure have come a long way!

The Buffalo & Erie County Public Library’s Active & Healthy Fair took place at the downtown Central Library on Wednesday, April 24.

The Reverend George Nicholas, leader of the African American Health Disparities Task Force, kicked off this free family event featuring activities, demonstrations, free health screenings and information from more than 50 area health-related organizations. The Library observed National Minority Health Month, which seeks to shine a light on the social and environmental barriers to wellness faced by minority communities.

Adults and children joined the “Hustle for Health” and line danced to R&B favorites, challenged themselves to master the art of the hula hoop and discovered new ways for their familes to be healthy and stay well.

“Health and wellness are cornerstones of a thriving community, but they are challenging for many people to maintain. Our goal is to help close that gap by providing information, connecting patrons with services and showing how wellness activities can be fun and beneficial,” said Library System Director Mary Jean Jakubowski.

Author Portraits: An old idea

The tradition of author portraits goes back to antiquity. The idea was preserved in luxury gospel books, with each Gospel preceded by a portrait of its "author." This fine Anglo-Saxon drawing of Mark is representative: he is enclosed along with his symbol (lion) in an architectural framework, writes his Gospel, and is accompanied by a quotation from the fifth-century Christian poet Sedulius explaining his symbol. Mark is the "loud voice of the lion that roars through the wilderness." Mark's Gospel begins on the right, including the passage with the "voice crying out in the wilderness" (Vox clamantis in deserto).

Ronald McDonald visited the library and put on a fantastic magic show for the kids! He was even kind enough to stick around after the show so everyone could get their picture taken!
