The Passmore Edwards Library in Redruth.
John Passmore Edwards was a British journalist, newspaper owner and philanthropist. The son of a carpenter, he was born in 1823 in Blackwater, a small village a few miles from Redruth.
A lifelong champion of the working classes. Over the space of 14 years, 70 major buildings were established as a direct result of his bequests. They included libraries and hospitals all over the country. I remember frequently passing one of his buildings, a museum, on the Romford road at Stratford east London on my way into work. The libraries that bare his name in Cornwall are now under threat of closure by the council who want to sell off the buildings to save money. Its seems wholly unfair that something bequeathed to the people can now be sold for profit.........

Mafra Palace library is a majestic and awe-inspiring structure that is a testament to man’s love for knowledge. This 18th-century Baroque library is located in the small town of Mafra, Portugal, and it houses more than 36,000 volumes of ancient manuscripts and books on various subjects such as history, law, philosophy, medicine, and theology. The grandeur and scale of this library are unlike anything you have ever seen before.
The library was built by King João V as a symbol of his power and wealth during his reign in the early 1700s. It took over 40 years to complete this masterpiece, which features ornate ceilings, intricate carvings, gilded decorations, and stunning frescoes. The sheer size of the shelves that line the walls will leave you breathless as you take in the vastness of the collection.
The highlight of Mafra Palace Library is its stunning architecture and ornamental design. The room is two levels high with rows upon rows of bookcases made from precious woods such as mahogany and rosewood. The ceiling is adorned with paintings representing notable figures such as Moses and Apollo.
In addition to its impressive collection of books and striking design features, Mafra Palace Library also offers guided tours for visitors to learn more about the history of the building and its importance to Portuguese culture.

On our day off, my son insisted on going to the George Eastman House. Here is the library, where guests would sit before dinner.
Going through archives, all I could find was this low-res version. I really liked this photo. WRPI had a really great music library.
The IMS Paulista Photography Library is a unique initiative in Brazil. With the capacity to shelter 30 thousand items, it aims to encourage research in the photographic field and to collaborate to understand photography in its most diverse modes of expression. The collection consists of publications of and about photography, contemplating also its unfolding in areas such as cinema, fashion, visual arts and humanities. Besides the catalog of general works, selected by the curatorship, there are special collections of names such as Stefania Bril, Thomaz Farkas, Iatã Cannabrava, Vania Toledo and Steidl.

Walking from the old library building, via the connecting bridge, to the "Black Diamond".
Took this the day I thought I would be able to get to the ponds and get some ducks or geese.. That fence around the whole parking lot made it very difficult for me to get down to the ponds.. You either go thru the library and out the back door and down stairs or go on the walkway around the building and down some stairs.. A little far for me without the aid of the walker... Happy Windows Wednesday, Everybody!!!
Two stone lionesses in the restored garden around the original entrance to the Morgan Library. The garden is now open when visiting the museum.
These female lions are "related" to the more familiar male lions in front of the New York Public Library because both pairs were created by Edward Clark Potter. His work can also be seen on the facade of the Brooklyn Museum.

The public Library in my home town is a building that was converted after being destroyed in the bombing raids of March 1945. Historically it used to be an administration building for the diocese of Paderborn.

The Doheny Memorial Library on the campus of the University of Southern California opened in 1932. It’s still a destination and a draw.
This library is not characterised by old folios; it presents itself more as the repository of an enlightened, diversely interested, wealthy family of the 19th and early 20th centuries. For example, it contains the first encyclopaedia in the Czech language. The interest in foreign cultures and countries was satisfied (among other means) by reading the works of Jules Verne and -- Karl May.
