Pier 39 (Building O, Level 1)
One afternoon, Jake Greenleaf rode his bicycle to Pier 39 to watch the sea lions. A young man wearing a red hoodie struck up a conversation with Jake. Jake shared the story of how the sea lions decided to move from Seal Rocks out on northwest corner of San Francisco to their current location at Pier 39.
After his short chat with the young man, Jake then went to Lefty’s – The Left Hand Store and purchased a left-handed ringed note-book. At Lefty’s, Jake ran into the young man in the red hoodie again who purchased a left-handed pair of scissors.

The Honokaa People's Theater is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places at the State Level under Criterion A (Events/History) and Criterion C (Architecture).Criterion A (Events/History) The Honokaa People's Theatre is significant at the State Level under Criterion A because it has been a center of community life since its opening in 1930. The building's ability to accommodate both live and moving picture entertainment has meant it has been used extensively as a multipurpose facility. Generations of audiences and performers have here experienced ethnic dances, music festivals, plays, and cultural exhibitions. The theater has provided a venue for political/economic speeches and rallies. It has been the scene of children's programs. American, Japanese and Filipino films have drawn audiences. The size and facilities, as the largest theater on the island outside of Hilo, attract people to Honoka?a. Criterion C (Architecture): Criterion C (Architecture): Remove present wording and replace with: ""The Honokaa People's Theatre is architecturally significant at the local level under Criterion C. This structure was designed to accommodate both live and motion picture entertainment. It amalgamated elements from both vernacular plantation architecture (partial concrete floors, post and pier floor supports, false front, corrugated iron walls and double hung windows) and classical design elements (symmetrical facade, rhythmically placed pilasters, architrave, frieze, denticulated cornice and parapet). Not only does the building's size reflect the prosperity once enjoyed by the Honokaa community, the structure is one of the few remaining early 20th century free standing theaters remaining and functioning on the island.

A photograph of Abbeydale Park that has been bugging me, spoiled by being ridiculously tilted.

Bizarrely, my neighbor is mowing his lawn, though there's nothing to mow but dry grass and dust.

The emphasis on the toxic jungle made me think that Avatar was inspired in part by Miyazaki's Nausicaa.
