Used my gps watch to plot a walk out to the "new" shoreline at Folsom Lake. As you can see from the satellite view it looks like we swam, really though the level of the lake is at a sad, sad level.

The High Level Bridge, built by Robert Stephenson in 1849, has just been reopened after a three year long closure for structural repairs. It is now only open for southbound buses and taxis, and of course pedestrians. The trains still run over the top deck.

The Newcastle side of the bridge here used to have George Stephenson's "Puffing Billy" locomotive on top of that gallery. It was removed some years ago and now resides in the Stephenson Museum at North Tyneside.

The water level of the Tchaikazan in August is dependant upon the weather. In times of hot, dry, sunny weather, the glaciers and ice fields at the head of the valley increase in melt and the water levels rise significantly. In the cool of morning, the river once again subsides to a much lower flow. Typical temperature to flow levels are recorded in lines on the sandy banks of the river.
