Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

Some might consider 70mm to be a short telephoto focal length although some consider the 85mm to be a long-standard lens. Personally I don't care. I shoot with my 24-70mm lens because of two reasons. First, it is a quality piece of glass that is pin sharp and, most importantly in Glasgow, weather resistant. Secondly, my old ankle injury and subsequent surgeries mean that I cannot move as quickly as I would like and that little bit of focal length reach means that I can get the shots that I see before me with a degree of flexibility. I find that 70mm is perfect for a candid portrait where the character is the subject, stopping down to f/3.5 isolates the subject nicely but still keeps the street background in context with the shot. Enjoy!

On a full frame, 35mm, the 50mm is seen as standard (although 40mm is closer to standard for the dimensions of the sensor or film of this size). 35mm is considered a wide standard and 85mm is considered a long standard. Let me know what you think! :)

Sandhill Crane.

Between 34 to 48 inches in length with a wingspan of nearly 7 feet. They are very tall with a long neck and long legs. Largely gray with a red forehead. Juveniles browner with no red on head. Plumage often appears a rusty color because of iron stains from water of ponds or marshes.

They inhabit large freshwater marshes, prairie ponds and marshy tundra. They are also on prairies and grain fields during migration and in winter.

They range from Siberia and Alaska east across arctic Canada to the Hudson Bay and south to western Ontario. There are isolated populations in the Rocky Mountians, northern prairies, and the Great Lakes region along with in Mississippi, Georgia and Florida. They winter in California's Central Valley and across the southern states from Arizona to Florida. They can also be found in Cuba.

Eucharist. Altar composition. Artist Viktor Vasnetsov (1848-1926) St. Volodymyr's Cathedral. Kyiv.

The Eucharist - the scene of the Communion of the Apostles, is located under the full-length image of the Mother of God with the Infant Jesus in her arms. One can't help but immediately recall the same arrangement of this scene in St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv and in the Cathedral of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, although in those monuments the communion is presented in two forms, while in the Vladimir Cathedral Christ is depicted once. For example, the gesture of the Apostle Peter (one hand supporting the other), who approaches Christ from the right, exactly copies a similar gesture in the images from the above-mentioned monuments.

Red-Bellied Woodpecker (female)

10 inches in length. Barred black and white above, pale buff below and on face. The male and female are similar except that the male has a red crown and nape while the female has a red nape only. Their reddish patch on lower abdomen is seldom visible in the field.

Its habitat includes open and swampy woodlands. It also comes into parks during migration and feeders in winter.

They range from South Dakota east through the Great Lakes and into southern New England and south to the Gulf Coast and Florida. Although not a migratory bird, some of the northern most birds will sometimes migrate south for the winter.

One source says the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains range is about 1,000 km (620 mi) in length. Its highest point is 7,090 m (23,260 ft) located 100 km (62 mi) to the northwest of Lhasa. The range is parallel to the Himalayas in the Transhimalayas, and north of the Brahmaputra River. [3] Another source says the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains extend 460 miles (740 km) from Nyêmo County in the west to Ranwu County (the southwestern part of Baxoi County) in the east.

Its highest peak is Mount Nyenchen Tanglha (Nyainqêntanglha Feng) at 7,162 metres (23,497 ft).[4]

The southern side of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains is precipitous, and falls by around 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), while the northern side is fairly level and descends about 1,000 metres (3,300 ft). Most of the mountains are below 6,500 metres (21,300 ft).[5] They contain 7080 glaciers covering an area of 10,700 square kilometres (4,100 sq mi).[4]

The Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains have an average latitude of 30°30'N and a longitude between 90°E and 97°E. Together with the Gangdise Shan located further west, it forms the Transhimalaya [a] which runs parallel to the Himalayas north of the Yarlung Tsangpo River.

The Drukla Chu river rises in the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, where it is called the Song Chu river, and joins the Gyamda Chu river. The combined rivers run about 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast to the Yarlung Tsangpo river.

Commonly named the Red-veined Darter

Body length: 38m to 40mm (1.5 to 1.6 inches)

Order: Odonata,

Flight period mainly: Late April to Early November.

Sympetrum fonscolombii is a common, widespread species. A resident (and more common) in the Mediterranean regions of Europe. Can also be found in the more northern regions of Europe, as far north as Britain and Sweden and over towards Poland in the East. But in these countries here it becomes much scarcer and will be rarely seen. It is most common in North Africa, the Middle East, and into south-western Asia including the Indian Subcontinent.

Habitat: The Red-veined Darter can be found in a large range of habitats, although preferring warm still waters, these often being open and shallow. It can also be found in ponds, lakes, marshes, coastal lagoons and slow flowing rivers.

Males are notably territorial and will often be seen observing on a exposed perch.

After copulation a pair can often be seen flying in tandem, with the female dipping her abdomen into the water depositing her eggs. The eggs and larvae develop within a few months and S. fonscolombii unlike most other European dragonflies has more than one generation a year. Some larvae will overwinter.

This species is similar to other Sympetrum species, especially Crocothemis Erythraea; as both males being bright red in overall appearance, closer inspection will give a positive identification especially as that species has no black on its face and legs.

Females have an ochre yellow abdomen. Immature males can be mistaken for females but often have more red and a single line on each side of the abdomen.

A fairly small hummingbird with a slender, nearly straight bill, a tail that tapers to a point when folded, and fairly short wings that don’t reach the end of the tail when the bird is perched.

Rufous Hummingbirds breed in open areas, yards, parks, and forests up to treeline. On migration they pass through mountain meadows as high as 12,600 feet where nectar-rich, tubular flowers are blooming. Winter habitat in Mexico includes shrubby openings and oak-pine forests at middle to high elevation.

Sestra is a river in the European part of Russia, in the Moscow and Tver regions, the left tributary of the river. Dubna (Volga basin).

It originates among the hills of the Klinsko-Dmitrovskaya ridge not far from the sources of the Klyazma River. It flows into the Dubna River 11 km from its mouth. The length of the river is 138 km, the basin area is 2680 km2 - the largest tributary of the Dubna in terms of basin area and length . All tributaries of the Sestra belong to small rivers and streams, the largest of which are: the right ones - Yakhroma (54 km, 988 km2) and Lutosnya (55 km, 364 km2); the left ones are Krutets (23 km, 166 km2), Yamuga (24 km, 283 km2) and Berezovka (25 km, 86.5 km2). Several ponds and reservoirs have been built on the river - Lake Senezh, ponds of the Senezh fishery, the Klin reservoir and others. In the lower reaches, the Sestra crosses the Moscow Canal; a 40-meter concrete tunnel has been built to pass water, passing under the canal perpendicular to it.

In 1850, the Catherine Canal was opened, connecting the Moscow and Volga rivers, partly the canal passed along the Sestra River (32 km), and partly along the derivation canal along the Sestra River (66.7 km). Part of the Sestra's channel was straightened, 20 wooden and stone sluices were built on it. Unable to withstand competition with the Nikolaev railway from St. Petersburg to Moscow, which opened in 1851, the canal was closed in 1860, the locks were dismantled.

The sister is a flat river with a winding channel, there are straightened sections. Large stones, small rifts, remnants of destroyed dams and piles of destroyed bridges are found in the riverbed. The current speed reaches 0.4 m / s. The channel width in the upper reaches is 10–15 m, the depth is up to 1 m, below the dam of the Klin reservoir, the width is 20–30 m, the depth is up to 1.5 m. In the lower reaches, the width reaches 50 m, the depth is up to 3 m.

This is a strange one! The tree is very large and tall but the flowers all hang from stems 10 feet or so from the ground so it feels like they are growing on a vine attached to the tree rather than the tree itself! These are called cauliflorous... flowers that grow from the trunk.

In the rainforests of South American, fruits of the Cannonball tree sway and clash in the wind, creating loud noises like artillery fire! These fruits really do resemble big, rusty cannonballs as they hang in clusters on the side of the tree attached to rope like tangles that emerge directly from the trunk.

The Cannonball tree’s beautifully complex and fragrant flowers resemble huge orchids. At night the flowers become particularly pungent in order to attract swift-flying pollinators. This particular Cannonball tree was collected in 1913 at Jamaica’s Hope Gardens and has flourished at Fairchild since it was planted here in 1938."

Couroupita guianensis, whose common names include Ayahuma and the Cannonball Tree, is an evergreen tree allied to the Brazil Nut (Bertholletia excelsa), and is native to tropical northern South America and to the southern Caribbean. In India it has been growing for the past two or three thousand years at least, as attested by textual records; hence it is possible that it is native to India also. It's part of the family Lecythidaceae and grows up to 25m (82ft) in height. The "Cannonball Tree" is so called because of its brown cannon-ball-like fruits. The majority of these trees outside their natural environment have been planted as a botanical curiosity, as they grow very large, distinctive flowers. Its flowers are orange, scarlet and pink in color, and form large bunches measuring up to 3m in length. They produce large spherical and woody fruits ranging from 15 to 24cm in diameter, containing up to 200 or 300 seeds apiece.

The roe deer is a relatively small deer, with a body length of 95–135 cm (3 ft 1 in – 4 ft 5 in) throughout its range, and a shoulder height of 63–67 cm (2 ft 1 in – 2 ft 2 in), and a weight of 15–35 kg (35–75 lb). Populations from Urals and northern Kazakhstan are larger on average growing to 145 cm (4 ft 9 in) in length and 85 cm (2 ft 9 in) at shoulder height, with body weights of up to 60 kg (130 lb), with the deer populations becoming smaller again further east in the Transbaikal, Amur Oblast, and Primorsky Krai regions.[citation needed] In healthy populations, where population density is restricted by hunting or predators, bucks are slightly larger than does. Under other conditions, males can be similar in size to females, or slightly smaller..

Bucks in good conditions develop antlers up to 20–25 cm (8–10 in) long with two or three, rarely even four, points. When the male's antlers begin to regrow, they are covered in a thin layer of velvet-like fur which disappears later on after the hair's blood supply is lost. Males may speed up the process by rubbing their antlers on trees, so that their antlers are hard and stiff for the duels during the mating season. Unlike most cervids, roe deer begin regrowing antlers almost immediately after they are shed.

Rainbow lorikeets are true parrots, within the Psittacoidea superfamily in the order Psittaciformes. The rainbow lorikeet or lorikeet (common name) is a species of parrot found in Australia. It is common along the eastern seaboard, from northern Queensland to South Australia. Its habitat is rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas. They are true parrots of medium-size, with the length ranging from 25 to 30 cm, including the tail. The weight varies from 75 to 157 g. The plumage of the nominate race, as with all subspecies, is very bright. The head is deep blue with a greenish-yellow nuchal collar, and the rest of the upper parts (wings, back and tail) are green. The chest is orange/yellow. The belly is deep blue, and the thighs and rump are green. In flight a yellow wing-bar contrasts clearly with the red underwing coverts. 35087

Cosmos bipinnatus, commonly called the garden cosmos, Mexican asteror cosmea, is a medium-sized flowering herbaceous plant in the daisy family Asteraceae, native to the Americas. The species and its varieties and cultivars are popular as ornamental plants in temperate climate gardens. Cosmos bipinnatus is an annual that is often considered half-hardy, although plants may reappear via self-sowing for several years. The plant height varies from 0.61–1.83–2.74 m. The cultivated varieties appear in shades of pink and purple as well as white. The branched stem is usually densely to occasionally occupied by fine, split up, rough trichomes, but some specimens are completely hairless. The petiole itself is inconspicuous, winged, 10 (rarely to 15) mm long, and sometimes the leaves are almost sessile. The very conspicuous cup-shaped inflorescences have a diameter of usually 5–7 cm and contain tongue and tubular flowers, which are surrounded by bracts. There are usually 8 outer bracts, and they are ovate to lanceolate-tail-shaped, 7-15 mm long, 3-5 mm wide. The inner bracts are ovate-lanceolate and 8-12 mm long. They are translucent with many black stripes and a clear edge up to 1 mm wide, sometimes with yellowish or pink pigments, the tip is ciliate. The sprout leaves have gold-yellow, thread-like tips and protrude between the tubular flowers. The broadened base of these spreader leaves is translucent, with a yellow line. The mostly eight ray florets are pink to violet or white colored, at the base may show noticeable stains caused by anthocyanin. The tongues are reversely ovate shaped, have a length of usually 20-35 mm and a width of usually 12-20 mm. The tips are almost dull and have three broad, wavy teeth. Below that, they are greatly rejuvenated. In the center of the flower baskets is a large number of tubular flowers (also called disc florets), whose overgrown petals are yellow, turn white in the lower part and reach a length of 5-6 mm. The anthers are brownish-black and about 3 mm long, at the tips are short-triangular, translucent attachments with a length of 0.5-0.8 mm. The branches of the stylus are short and rather dull, with a length of 0.5 mm.
