Heliconia, derived from the Greek word helikonios, is a genus of about 100 to 200 species of flowering plants native to the tropical Americas and the Pacific Ocean islands west to Indonesia. Common names for the genus include lobster-claws, wild plantains or false bird-of-paradise. The last term refers to their close similarity to the bird-of-paradise flowers (Strelitzia). Collectively, these plants are also simply referred to as heliconias.-wikipedia

I thought the original plain picture of a colourful Maple leaf looked a bit bare so I later decided to include some other leaves / trees within the composition to form the image you now see.

One of the shots I took for this month's assignment for the office photo club, for the theme "Fall". As it turned out, most of the things that I associate with fall I haven't actually started doing yet, and it's only been in the last few days that the foliage has started to turn in my neck of the woods, so it was more challenging to find a shot than I thought it'd be.

Stopped at Bristol Blake State Reservation in Norfolk, MA on my way into the office one morning, tracked down a few leaves that had some fall color, and played with a few compositions. I think this one turned out best.

Shot this a few weeks ago when i was wandering around a wood.

The velvety texture of the sage leaves - which shows up better in the other photo- is what inspired me to make this ring. I think I'll be posting more rings featuring herb leaves, or other leaves that I find interesting during the next days.....as if I haven't made enough leaf rings already :-)

Last season´s Cerrado leaf, subject to decay, attack and disease...

The Sun was shining brightly on my Schubert Chokecherry tree. I had my macro lens attached to the D800 and was able to focus exactly on the lower edges of the orange Autumn leaf.

The leaf was quite small, only two inches long or so.
