View of the LDS temple in Salt Lake City just after sunrise.

HDR using 8 RAWs, blended and tonemapped in Photomatix 4. Cranked up the white and black slider, and compensated on the Luminosity and Gamma sliders to get a good exposure and balanced histogram. This gave a much stronger HDR look than I usually go for. Then I tonemapped it again, strengthening the effect. In PS:

- Imagenomic to reduce noise. Did it twice, once with a strong setting for the sky and water, and once with a normal setting for the rest.

- Smart sharpen.

- Freaky detail, just on the temple.

- Reduce saturation everywhere but the temple and water.

- Burn edges.

- TIghten crop a bit.

I've driven by the LDS Temple thousands of times and have meant to visit during Christmas, but miss it every year. This year, Sydney Tran invited me for a photowalk, so we went shooting at the temple. Check out Sydney's photostream for more great shots of the DC area!

"God does rain down upon all His children all the blessings He can—all the blessings that love and law and justice and mercy will permit. And He commands us to be likewise generous...Nevertheless, God’s greater blessings are conditioned on obedience."

The Idaho Falls LDS Temple is seen from the west at an altitude of 98 ft. using a drone flying over the Snake River. I love the ability of a drone to allow perspectives that are otherwise unobtainable.

Feather River Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, construction progress as of April 24, 2021, in Yuba City, Sutter County, California.

This weeks theme is "The Orton Effect" an effect that in essence adds substantial contrast, saturation, and glow to an image. Developed many years ago with Slide film it is easy to replicate in Photoshop and is even one of my favorite presets in Nik Color Effex Pro.

I took a short photowalk on April Fools day evening to the State Capitol and Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, although I didn't have the dramatic clouds I would have liked the sunset was still a beautiful sight and was perfect for a high contrast scene for this weeks theme. Although a huge fan of the technique and look the Orton Effect gives I don't usually go quite this dark with my images so this was a bit of a challenge for me to stop from adjusting the levels higher. My favorite part of the image is the subtle pink in the sky that was brought out so well by the technique.

"To accomplish this work there will have to be not only one temple, but thousands of them, and thousands and tens of thousands of men and women will go into those temples and officiate for people who have lived as far back as the Lord shall reveal." -- Brigham Young, June 22, 1856

The Payson Utah Temple is a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) under construction in Payson, Utah. The temple was announced on January 25, 2010, by church president Thomas S. Monson. The temple will be the southernmost along Utah's Wasatch Front, and will be the 15th completed temple in the state, with the Provo City Center (under construction) and Cedar City (announced) temples bringing the total to 17 when they are completed.

The temple will be located near the intersection of 930 West and 1550 South in Payson on previously undeveloped land. Additional details, such as the temple's planned size, were not available at the time of the announcement.[2]

Dallin H. Oaks presided at the groundbreaking ceremony on October 8, 2011, with William R. Walker conducting and Steven E. Snow, Jay E. Jensen and Janette Hales Beckham in attendance. Jason Chaffetz (representative for Utah's 3rd congressional district, which includes Payson) participated in the shovel ceremony.[3][4]

The temple, at 96,630 square feet on a 15 acre lot, will be one of the largest built in recent years.[5][6] A public open house is scheduled from Friday, 24 April 2015, through Saturday, 23 May 2015, excluding Sundays. The temple will be formally dedicated on Sunday, June 7, 2015.

HDR of three shots (PHotomatix settings below). In PS:

- Second layer of Imagenomic Noiseware in full mode for the sky.

- Smart sharpen to make sure the letters are crisp, about 80 strenght and 1.3 radius.

- Freaky detail on the building.

The Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints continues to progress though a major renovation of the structure and the surrounding area. There are a few trees starting to show up. Project is expected to be completed sometime in 2020.

Did I mention I love reflecting pools? Well I do and I love predawn photography as well.

I'm not Mormon but I have several close friends who are LDS and have been to and by the LDS Temple in Mesa Arizona several times and I've always wanted to photograph it just before sunrise.

I also wanted to do the west entrance as most people capture the north reflecting pool. For this my first attempt I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital camera and a Canon EF 17-40mm F/4L USM Zoom lens.

This is straight out of the camera no Photoshop converted RAW to JPEG using Canon Digital Photo Professional I played with the white balance to get the unique look.

A wonderful example of pioneer architecture, the LDS Temple in Logan, Utah is beautiful building and the lovely temple grounds are always a special place but on this night the scene could be described more closely as resplendent.

The statue representing the angel Moroni (prominent figure in the doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, revered but not worshiped) stands atop the Idaho Falls Temple located on the banks of the Snake River.

I recently received permission to perform aerial photography around the temple which was a unique experience to see the temple and this statue from a different perspective.

The image was taken the with 14 mpx DJI Phantom Vision+ camera in RAW and processed in PS6.

I have been disturbed by the recent reports of people using drones irresponsibly, dangerously, and illegally. If used correctly, these aerial cameras are great tool in seeing the world in a unique and interesting way.

In doing this project of aerial photographs of the Idaho Falls Temple I have produced a video which you can view here...

The Gothic style Salt Lake Temple is a temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) located on Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. At 253,015 square feet (23,505.9 m2), it is the largest LDS temple by floor area. The temple was dedicated in 1893 and it is the sixth temple completed by the church, requiring 40 years to complete, and the fourth temple built since the Mormon exodus from Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1846.
