A front view of the newly constructed temple at Twin Falls Idaho. This temple was dedicated in Aug. 2008. Owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Another view from outside the gates. Multiyear renovation looks to be winding down. View from the West side for the building.

The St. George temple is the oldest temple still actively used by the members of the Church. The temple currently has three ordinance rooms and 18 sealing rooms, and a total floor area of 110,000 feet (34,000 m). It was originally designed with two large assembly halls like the earlier Kirtland and Nauvoo Temples. The lower Assembly Hall was partitioned with curtains to provide the ordinance rooms for the Endowment Ceremony. In 1938 the lower Assembly Hall was rebuilt with permanent walls dividing it into four ordinance rooms. The four ordinance rooms were later changed into the present three rooms, at the time the endowment ceremony was changed from a live endowment to one presented on film.

In the 1970s the temple was closed and underwent extensive remodeling. Spencer W. Kimball rededicated it in 1975.

The Temple points us to Christ. Christmas points us to Christ. Light is representative of Christ. Yes, it's all about Christ.

The Portland Oregon Mormon Temple sits on 7 acres of lush green land in Lake Oswego, Oregon. It is indeed a spectacular sight with its six white spires reaching toward the sky. The white marble exterior is accented with green marble trim and topped with a green slate roof. This is one of the larger temples with 65,000 square feet. Each Mormon temple that is built portrays features both inside and out which are symbolic of the true meaning that temples hold. The three east spires on the temple represent the Melchezidek Priesthood and the three west spires represent the Aaronic Priesthood; the sun, moon and earth represent the varying degrees of glory.

When the Temple was completed, there seemed to be a change of attitude in the community. Hearts were softened as almost three hundred thousand people attended the open house.

On August 19, 1989, the Portland Oregon Mormon Temple was dedicated by then prophet, President Ezra Taft Benson. He pronounced that the Temple is, “a place of peace and holiness, a refuge from [the] storms of life…the Temple is going to have a great mission, and some day you will find it.”

The Provo City Center Temple - what a remarkable building, and an amazing story. A fire gutted this 132-year old pioneer tabernacle and left only the outside walls standing. Now it's been given a new life as the newest temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I pride myself on being a slow learner, but by sheer happenstance, I have learned that atmospheric conditions such as fog or smoke creates dramatic lighting. Armed with this simple truth, when a desert fire created smoke in our area I headed out at sunset to get an image of the Rexburg LDS Temple.

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."

—Genesis 1:3-5

Mormon Temple in San Diego (near La Jolla)

"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock."

—Matthew 7:24-25

Building our lives upon the Rock of Jesus Christ means that we not only hear and believe, but that we act on His teachings. Only then will we successfully weather the storms.

The Snake River is running high as it courses through the middle of Idaho Falls as seen in this image of the falls with the LDS Temple in the background.

Heaven apparently appreciates trumpets and horns. I do too!

*Note: I removed from the image the distracting black lightning rods that stuck out from the statue. Thanks LR.

"I feel today in this great state, and all this vast territory, there is no building of such tremendous significance as will be the building we begin this day." —President Gordon B. Hinckley, at the groundbreaking of the Dallas Texas Temple, the first LDS Temple in Texas.

This is the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It's part of Temple Square, a large section of downtown Salt Lake City that's home to the headquarters of the "Mormon" church. It's pretty much the Mecca of this truly American religion.

Taken at sunset tonight, the clouds were perfect. I am not sure I could have asked for a better moment. There are times in life when you are glad to be behind the Camera, this was one of those times.
