Sunrise over the Idaho Falls Mormon Temple. The title is from a popular Mormon Hymn.

ARCHITECTS: Board of Church Architects

DEDICATION: September 23, 1945

TOTAL FLOOR AREA: 92,177 sq. ft.

OWNER: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The temple in Idaho Falls was announced on March 3, 1937. The building was designed by the church board of temple architects: Edward O. Anderson, Georgious Y. Cannon, Ramm Hansen, John Fetzer, Hyrum Pope, Lorenzo Snow Young. The exterior of the temple was completed in September 1941 and the interior was expected to be completed the following year. However, with World War II shortages, it delayed the completion of the temple for four more years. In spite of delays, church president George Albert Smith dedicated the Idaho Falls Temple just one month after the war ended, on September 23, 1945. The temple was built on a 7-acre plot, has four ordinance rooms and nine sealing rooms, and has a total floor area of 92,177 square feet.

In March 2015, the temple closed for renovations that were expected to last 18 months. The renovations took nearly two years and following their completion, a public open house was held from April 22 through May 20, 2017. The temple was rededicated by Henry B. Eyring on June 4, 2017. -- Courtesy LDS and Wikipedia

LDS Salt Lake Temple on a chilly November night, with reflection. 3rd place photograph in the 2015 Yuba-Sutter County Fair, Building category.

This "tiny world" image was made using the previously posted panorama and converting the image to polar coordinates and then tweaking the seams in PS.

The blossoms and flowers were out in force as we visited Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Washington D.C. Temple is the 18th constructed and 16th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is located in Kensington, Maryland, United States, just north of Washington, D.C., near the Capital Beltway.

I don't know who this couple is but they make a nice element in my photo of the Salt Lake City Temple. I was taking pictures of the reflecting pool and temple when a wedding photographer set up right next to me, positioned the couple on the other side and started shooting. So I figured it was a perfect opportunity to practice some wedding photography! ;-)

When ever I'm in Salt Lake City, Utah I take a moment to visit beautiful Temple Square and the magnificent Temple.

As I was setting up for this shot, the sun shot through a break in the clouds and illuminated the light granite of the the temple really bumping up the light range of the scene. I was glad to have my D800 with it's 14.4 stops of dynamic range which was able to record the entire scene in a single RAW file.

I love how even the visible parts of the temples, inspire uplifting thoughts and actions, and give me perspective. The spires are prominent in the Chicago Illinois Temple. Just after I took this photo, I had to run to my car to avoid getting drenched in a heavy Midwest downpour.

I have been wanting to get a shot like this for quite some time now with some good color in some clouds and some good light on the mountain peaks at the same time. The problem I most often face is that there are only two day per week that this place is not packed with cars in the parking lots and a lot of people walking around the grounds. Anyway, last Monday after work I was watching the sky pretty close to see if the sunset was going to be as good as the last 3-4 nights had been but there were no clouds to the west at all. The only clouds in the sky were to the Northeast above the mountains. So I thought this might be my chance to get the shot I have wanted of the temple. I headed directly there from work and found that I had left both of my tripods in my truck after driving it all weekend and I was back in my car doing the daily commute to and from work. Luckily there's a set of benches straight back from the temple in an almost perfect spot for the shot I wanted. So using the bench to set my camera on I composed my shot and went to let go of the camera and it was way to front heavy, so now the light I wanted is coming and I know I can't get a good shot holding on to my camera I start emptying my pockets to try and find the right combination of things to hold my lens up. I finally resorted to using my eye drop bottle i keep to keep my contacts moist during the day but the only way it would work was standing on end with the very small pointed end up against the camera lens. Needless to say it was not too steady. Anyway after working this image over in Photomatix for the HDR processing, CS5 to remove a car and another photographer shooting a little kid by the fence and LR5 for the final touches this is what I ended up with. I'm still not sure this is the final product I was hoping for. Luckily I only live 6 blocks away and digital pictures are cheap.

While going through the pictures of lights of Temple Square I am reminded not only of the amazing sight and photographic opportunity but of the warm feelings of the season that one cannot ignore while visiting this place.

As we head back to work and return to our normal activities it would be well to remember the spirit of peace, love, and hope that is felt at Christmas time. May the virtues of this season fill each our our lives and our hearts during the coming year!

Almost 14 years ago, my wife and I married in this beautiful pioneer temple in Manti, Utah. The reasons I chose to be joined in a covenant with her and God in this place are personal and sacred to me, but in short, I truly believe that if we keep the promises we made here, she and I will be linked together for eternity.

Seen from Potrero Hill, across the bay and 15 miles away

Almost 3000 years ago, King Solomon began his dedication of the temple in Israel with these words, "Lord God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart" - 1 Kings 8:23.

Almost exactly 180 years ago, in 1836, Joseph Smith used similar language when dedicating the Kirtland Temple (see D&C 109:1).

This Sunday, the new Provo City Center temple will be dedicated and will immediately be put to work for the salvation of God's children.

"I have a fam'ly here on earth.

They are so good to me.

I want to share my life with them through all eternity.

"Fam'lies can be together forever

Through Heav'nly Father's plan.

I always want to be with my own family,

And the Lord has shown me how I can.

The Lord has shown me how I can."

There are a few small things that need some work with this photo, but overall I am really happy with how it turned out.

This Nativity Scene is on the reflection pond at Temple Square in Salt Lake City Utah. I posted a similar image last year of this same scene. What I love about this image is the little bits of snow on the globe lights in the water, and the mist.

I am going to be taking a break from flickr for the Holidays. I hope all of you have a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful 2014!

Some have inquired about my little Gizmo. He's slowly getting better. I'm still giving him subcutaneous injections of Sodium Chloride, and have had to feed him with a syringe. This evening he started following me around the kitchen while I was baking poppysead bread. There's nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread to stir the senses, bring comfort, and help heal the spirits....even for a little dog.

On our drive from London to the Lake District we stopped to see the beautiful Preston LDS Temple and peaceful gardens around it.
