On 4 February, Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao inaugurated the first Integrated Border Post (IBP) at Batugade, Bobonaro District. President Ramos-Horta, Minister of Finance Pires, Minister for Tourism and Industry Alves, the Indonesian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, and UNMIT SRSG Haq and UN Police Commissioner Carrilho attended, amongst others. The facility supports the legitimate cross border movement of people and goods for tourism, commercial and community links. The IBP consists of several border control agencies, including immigration, customs, quarantine, border police, agriculture, foreign affairs and transport. Approximately 400 guests attended the event. Photo by UNMIT/Martine Perret. 4 February 2012.

First Great Western invited Tasting Britain along to the launch of their new lunch and dinner menu - which is in line with their pledge to source all produce from as near as possible to whatever railway line you’re travelling on. I assume this has something to do with reducing food miles, but it also means that the food on the various services is much more specific. I.e the services to Wales seem to focus more on the kinda stuff you might get if you went to a restaurant in Wales. Which is cool.

(...yes we still have regional variety in the UK - long may that continue)

I was invited to try the food on the Paddington to Plymouth line. In keeping with this, said menu designed in consultation with chef Mitch Tonks (of The Spiny Lobster, Seahorse etc) , who told us a little about what they were up to. Also in attendance was Adrian Derx of Cornish wine Knightor Trevannion. This is the first English wine I’ve really enjoyed and so I’m probably gonna be all over these guys in the next few months. They have a sweet wine! It is entirely excellent!

Apparently this Pullman service is the UK’s only remaining fine dining railcar (as in, a train carriage pretty much meant for use as a mobile restaurant). These were very popular indicates past (ornate carriage circa 1920 often come to my mind). So, support your local mobile restaurant!

Also this was the best and only steak I have ever eaten on a train. The bar has been SET.

The #FAILBETTER launch party was a perspective-shifting exploration of the epic and inspirational failures that make up the exhibition, which features contributions from all walks of life, including famous explorers, inventors, scientists, and athletes. Guests were the first to see the exhibition, taste Michelin-starred chef Kevin Thornton's take on 'failed recipes', screen-print their own posters, and enjoy some of music's finest failures and one-hit wonders from DJ Anthony Remedy. Now it's time to use the F-word: share your take on failure with the tag #FAILBETTER. Visit sciencegallery.com/failbetter for more information. #FAILBETTER runs until 27th April 2014.

The Clovis Atlassian User Group celebrates the launch with us via live webcast.

The entrance to the Launch Control Center. It has a formidable fence in the background. Most of the formidable part is to keep out the alligators. NASA doesn't have regular security concerns.
