We woke up at 5am two mornings in a row to watch the hot air balloons launch into the sky. The first day was a bust, I think the winds were too high and the launch was cancelled. Luckily, the second day the hot air balloons were given the green light to set sail. It was great being able to walk up close to all the hot air balloons as they were being set up...sometimes I got close enough to feel the blast of the flame giving the hot air to the balloons.
More than 800 students from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico launched nearly 50 high-powered, amateur rockets April 15, near NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, during the Agency's annual rocket competition.
For the past nine months prior, teams of middle school, high school, college, and university students were tasked to design, build, and launch a rocket and scientific payload to an altitude between 4,000 and 6,000 feet, while making a successful landing and executing a scientific or engineering payload mission.
Student Launch is one of NASA's eight Artemis Student Challenges - a series of activities providing students access to the Artemis program. Through Artemis, NASA will return humans to the Moon for long-term exploration, including landing the first woman and first person of color on the lunar surface, missions that will help pave the way for future missions to Mars.

We had a little snow recently, and when we went to the kids' school for a pancake breakfast, Ivy and Rose couldn't resist launching a few snowballs before it all melted away.
Returned back to where I did my flight training in 2011...and that also means I'm able to watch rocket launches many times. Since I was a children, I used to read encyclopedias and I always focused on the section of space travel and astronomy. I simply love spaceships.
When I did my flight training, I was able to see the last two Space Shuttle launches ever (the last one was STS-134 I believe...) and 5 years later, I'm here watching more spacecraft launches :)
Hope I get some good weather for upcoming launches...There is one scheduled at sunset!!!

St. Thomas More Students watch as their CubeSat deploys from the International Space Station

In 2012, the students from St. Thomas More Cathedral School in Arlington, Virginia lined up in the shape of a space shuttle in the school parking lot and witnessed the flyover of the Space Shuttle Discovery as it was being retired to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. This awe-inspiring vision was an inspiration to the entire school and a catalyst for them to literally reach for the stars. Thus beginning their quest to build a small satellite, called a CubeSat, that would engage students around the world in Earth observations.
STMSat-1 was launched to the ISS on Dec. 6, 2015 aboard an Orbital ATK Cygnus cargo resupply spacecraft as part of NASA’s Educational Launch of Nanosatellites (ELaNa) IX mission. Along with CubeSats from the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Michigan, STMSat-1 was deployed from the NanoRacks CubeSat Deployer (NRCSD) system on May 16. The NRCSDs are commanded one-by-one, allowing the dispenser doors to open and the large internal spring to be released, deploying the CubeSats into an orbital altitude similar to that of the ISS, which orbits about 250 miles above Earth. After 30 minutes in orbit, the internal timers on the CubeSats allowed their onboard computers to boot up and begin transmitting. The CubeSat teams utilize their ground stations to listen for their beacons to determine the small satellites’ functionality and operational status. Once operational they begin their missions.

On Sunday, October 7 at 7:21 p.m. PDT, SpaceX successfully launched the SAOCOM 1A satellite from Space Launch Complex 4E (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.
In this shot, taken shortly after separation, the first stage (in the middle of the picture) has completed (or almost completed) its boostback burn, and the second stage (top left) is gaining speed under its own power.
