Aftermath of a research space rocket launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base near Downtown L.A. It's a bit blurry, because I don't have a Tripod. I used the Mustang's rear window as a tripod replacement. With little success ;)
inal Discovery launch. My friend Nancy Oltman watched the shuttle launch on television at her friends' in Lake Helen FL, then ran outside and saw it streak across the sky.
Pro riders gravitate towards this sleek 24-footer for the accommodating 17-person interior as much as the performance and wakes. There’s a lot to be said for a plush place to recover and professional riders like Amber Wing are on board with Supra’s style of comfort. Amber especially appreciated the comfort and the performance of her Supra this year while she trained for and won Queen of Wake and Best Women’s Rider. The wide seating gives you the ability to kick back and slide into the luxurious interior with full support. Double-up convertible rear-facing seats take the strain out of being a spectator. Of course when it’s “game on,” riders want to be behind the 242 where the Gravity III ballast system swells to an industry-leading 1700 pounds, the SmartPlate refines shape and the wakes Launch. Take the reigns on all of this performance with the VISION dash controlling speed, wake size, wake shape and tailoring those settings for specific riders. The Supra Launch 242 is the ride of your life inside and out.

More than 800 students from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico launched nearly 50 high-powered, amateur rockets April 15, near NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, during the Agency's annual rocket competition.
For the past nine months prior, teams of middle school, high school, college, and university students were tasked to design, build, and launch a rocket and scientific payload to an altitude between 4,000 and 6,000 feet, while making a successful landing and executing a scientific or engineering payload mission.
Student Launch is one of NASA's eight Artemis Student Challenges - a series of activities providing students access to the Artemis program. Through Artemis, NASA will return humans to the Moon for long-term exploration, including landing the first woman and first person of color on the lunar surface, missions that will help pave the way for future missions to Mars.

A United Launch Alliance Delta II rockets lifts off on it's 153rd mission since being introduced in 1989, from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California. The workhorse lifted NASA's Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) Satellite into orbit to study the Earth's soil moisture every 2-3 days over the next three years.
The launch was in the wee hours and normally my holiday lighting would not be on. But I turned it on for this photo.
Greg from BoomScience came to Anastasia Island to teach kids about the power of air. The kids got to make and launch their very own rockets!

History
HSL 102, the only survivor of the 100 class in the UK, was launched in 1936 and was one of the very first, fast offshore rescue boats in service with the Royal Air Force. She was one of the most technologically advanced production craft of the day, the brainchild of Hubert Scott-Paine. From his powerboat racing days, he developed the concept of fast planing 'hard chine' powerboats. He realised that boats which travelled over the surface of the water could travel more quickly and more efficiently than those which travelled through.
Of mahogany double-diagonal construction, she was powered by three Napier Sea Lion petrol engines. During the Battle of Britain, she was mostly based at Blyth, Northumberland. Her war service also included periods based on the Firth of Forth at Calshot. In two months in 1941, she rescued thirty-eight aircrew from the North Sea, including the crews of two German bombers. As a result, she was inspected by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in July 1941.
When working off Calshot, she was damaged by a Messerschmitt 109 and her radio operator was killed. In 1943, she transferred to the Royal Navy for target towing, and paid off in 1946. She became a houseboat in Mill Creek at Darmouth and was in a sorry state when acquired for restoration. The extensive work needed was carried out by Powerboat Restorations at Fawley between 1993 and 1996. Three six-cylinder 420-bhp Cummins diesels were installed, giving a top speed of about 38knots.
On 5 July 1996, HSL 102 was relaunched at Fawley by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and was subsequently based at Lymington, Hampshire. In late 2009, she moved to Portsmouth following her acquisition by the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust, with the help of a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund. Subsequent Developments
1 May 2012 Vessel was taken in hand at Universal Marina, Sarisbury Green, on River Hamble, in September 2011 for re-engining by Mermaid Marine, of Poole. Three new FPT Iveco (not Fiat as first reported), six-cylinder diesel engines, each developing 400HP, have been fitted and her gearboxes have been overhaulsed. She made 30 knots on sea trials. The work was completed in April 2012 and she has returned to Portsmouth. Source: Paul Brown, May 2012
October 2012 Vessel's been out of the water in the month and had her propellers changed along with some ongoing maintenance. She completed sea trials shortly after completion. Source: Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust (PNBPT) Newsletter, Oct 2012
Key dates
1936 Built by British Powerboat Company of Hythe
1937 Entered service with the RAF
1941 World War II service included 1940 Dunkirk evacuation and air sea rescue
1943 Transferred to the Royal Navy for target towing duties

The sparrow project is an attempt to improve my bird story telling along with honing eye hand/AF coordination skills using a common subject readily available. The subjects must be in motion as a prerequisite since shooting ducks in a barrel is just no sport at all.
I was spurred into the project due to my complete dissatisfaction of prior attempts while on a trip to Tanzania. Learning the delicate balance between shutter speed, proper long lens techniques, iso settings and AF modes is a challenge for something just slightly slower than a speeding bullet.
This will be ongoing to support my next African adventure later this year.

The launcher fires the ball successfully: it will remain airborne for about 1 ft after launch.
The smaller the piece to be fired, the further it will go... And the results would be even better if I could incorporate more springs...

The warm weather and calm seas bring out all sorts of pleasure craft. Here we see the Fletcher 'Horizon Express' racing down the Clyde. From this angle you would think the second inflatable boat would be ripped from it's moorings on the stern. Accidents don't occur for private cruisers at sea!.
It always surprises me why a boat's company don't take their safety seriously by not wearing Life Preservers

I'm happy to announce that I've just launched Rreset -- a gallery wall for your Flickr photosets.
Rreset automatically displays the largest version of a photo that will fit on your screen, and, if you know css or javascript, you can completely customize the way your photos appear.
I hope you enjoy it. Feedback welcome!
Softline Pastel - a member of the Softline Group and a local leader in accounting, payroll and business software -- has launched Pastel My Business Online, its first online accounting system, which targets small to medium businesses (SMBs).
“Very often, products become complicated by the sheer volume of features added to it over time," says Softline Pastel managing director Steven Cohen, who explained that by developing Pastel My Business Online from scratch, the company had the opportunity to design the software specifically for business owners who were either starting out with very little bookkeeping knowledge, or who only wanted a basic system.
