Watching Space shuttle launches is not really my thing but when my friend Paul Aughey set the trip up, how could I pass on going to Florida. The day before the launch, they predicted a 30% chance of a successful launch because of a tropical weather system passing through the area. Paul found a viewing access about seven miles to the north in Mosquito Lagoon (appropriately named I might add). Hundreds if not thousands of fellow kayakers and canoers lined the channel under the watchful eye of the U.S. Coast Guard. I have to admit I got kinda teary-eyed when the thing took off. I think the coolest thing was about 90 seconds after it took off this incredible thunderous roar reached us. It sounded and vibrated like heavy thunder but it lasted for minutes. It was amazing. Too bad my longest lens was on a 300 mm.

Launch of a Delta IV rocket from SLC-37 in Cape Canaveral, carrying the WGS-6 satellite for the Air Force (mission overview). The photos were taking from about 9 miles away.
We weren't able to find a radio station broadcasting the countdown, so we had no idea when exactly it was launching. Turns out it launched right at the start of the launch window. We had just parked, and managed to only miss the very beginning of it.

More than 800 students from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico launched nearly 50 high-powered, amateur rockets April 15, near NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, during the Agency's annual rocket competition.
For the past nine months prior, teams of middle school, high school, college, and university students were tasked to design, build, and launch a rocket and scientific payload to an altitude between 4,000 and 6,000 feet, while making a successful landing and executing a scientific or engineering payload mission.
Student Launch is one of NASA's eight Artemis Student Challenges - a series of activities providing students access to the Artemis program. Through Artemis, NASA will return humans to the Moon for long-term exploration, including landing the first woman and first person of color on the lunar surface, missions that will help pave the way for future missions to Mars.
The 2023 launch event and award ceremony are available to view on NASA's Marshall YouTube and Student Launch Facebook pages.

Launched a model rocket at Clint's mate's place today (they're back for the weekend). We launched it twice, but it takes off so fast I only managed to capture this one photo with the rocket actually in the frame!

Second try at getting it up ... er ... so to speak. Alas, I hit the "stop recording" button just after lift-off.
Minister of State for Mental Health, Primary Care and Social Care, Kathleen Lynch TD (right), has today with Anne O'Connor, HSE National Director of Mental Health Services, officially opened a new eur13 million purpose built inpatient unit for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services?at Linn Dara Cherry Orchard Campus in Dublin. The new facility includes two 11-bed units, one for the older adolescent age group up to the age of 18 years and one for children and younger adolescents. Attached to the unit is a 6-room school building, including an arts and crafts room and a home economics classroom. An occupational therapy suite is part of the facility.? Sports and activity facilities include a sports hall, gymnasium and outdoor hard court.
