NO BANNERS, please!

Watercolour painting of a common or garden gate latch. This one was on our last walk from Ashford in the Water. I figure with enough practice I might get rust right.

I'd almost forgotten what a joy it was to play around with shallow depths of field and manual focus.

So thanks to Rebecca * and Daz* and everyone else who's been turning in some wonderful shallow fiddy dof shots laterly (oh, and Lomokev's excellent book!) for reminding me!

Wasn't feeling very inspired this evening. Even so, quite happy with how this turned out.

Somewhereville musician Rowan Latch and past recipient of the raven feather seen sitting in his usual city enclave listening to the sounds of silence. Rowan exists in the void between noise and noiselessness. In the bars of Somewhereville, there’s a rumor that Latch once played in outlaw country bands along the coast, but walked away after a silence on stage struck him harder than any applause. Now, he creates in the margins, where sound and absence meet. The problem is, no one can hear his works. He is heavily inspired by John Cage's 4′33,″ where the ensemble is instructed to remain silent for the duration of the piece allowing only for the ambient noise in the room.

Image imagined in MidJourney AI and finished with Topaz Studio and Lightroom Classic.

I think spare parts would be difficult to find for this old door latch on a medieval building in Brugge, Belgium
