Well peeled and rusted! I got funny looks from several passers-by whilst I was taking this pic!

When I saw this old door latch, I zoomed back in time. You don't see these latches so much anymore, but when I grew up these were on all the stores.

In an attempt to avoid another snow filled picture, I have decided to go with a detail shot. This thumb latch is found on the storm door at North Hills Museum in Granville Ferry, Nova Scotia. While the museum was built as early as 1763, this rusted latch is of a more recent vintage.

This was rather boring "au naturel"...so I jazzed it up a bit! It's the latch on the door of a cottage in a reconstructed mediaeval village, rebuilt on the original foundations, circa 1400. Don't know how authentic the latch is but I'd guess this simple design has been around for a long, long time
