This laser pointer was turned from a length of aluminium tube for the body and two lengths of solid rod for the end cap and diode holder at the front. 4 AA batteries, wired to give 3v, powers the green 75mw diode. Everything's held in place with grub screws. This took a couple of evenings work to turn up. Ended up fairly heavy and very solid :)
Three things that don't go well together with a photo geek in the room. A cat, a laser pointer and a few drinks.
Playing around with some long exposure/light painting. I really want to try a self portrait like this awesome portrait, so I decided to practice on one of my favorite models. This is the only documentation he has allowed of the sweet beard he is threatening to get rid of tomorrow (sad).
not so sharp because it's a 15 sec. exposure and he as sitting on the bed... This was an interesting first try but I definitely did learn from it. :)
While at my sister Vicki's place in Idaho last fall I broke out the green laser pointer for the cats to chase.
Our friend Maggie bought this for our dog, who would have though she would love it so much. And yes, Darth Vader is in the house, is nose is very stuffed up.

Laser interference II
- Another light interference pattern, this time created using a green laser pointer and a halogen lamp. The laser beam was aimed into the lamp and then reflected by the numerous reflecting surfaces inside the lamp back onto the wall.

My drink @ Hala-Kahiki, Preachers Panic Punch: rum, vermouth, orange curaçao
Interesting colour.
The desciption on the menu reads: "It not only tastes good, but it makes you feel at peace with the world."
I only took this pic cause everyone else was trying to take a photo of my drink for some reason and failing and I wanted to show off how much better my camera is.
This is an early experiment with my (red) laser pointer. Bulb shutter in a completely dark room, and tracing patterns with my laser pointer. No editing except color adjustment.
Each laser pointer cost $1,500. Each mount is $75. I think the Army should shop on eBaY or something.
Beavis plays with the laser pointer. He was the cat most inclined to chase something out of all the cats we ever owned. That might have been a factor in his demise, since he ran into the street and got killed by a car -- UNLIKE Samhain, who lived 10 years on busy roads, and never lifted a finger to chase a laser pointer (he figured out they were fake in about 2 seconds and never fell for it again).

Beavis the cat, laser pointer.

Tried to get the cats in action again. This time, sunlight was on my side. I used the laser pointer instead of a string toy.
Leia actually tried this time. She really likes the laser pointer.
Further progress on the Medusas Head becoming the Medusa Rifles aiming sight,

Next step is making a mold for casting the head in whitemetall.
I do this without the snakes yet, to have a backup mold first before I go further as I'm uncertain if it will be possible to make a usable mold with all the snakes in place.
