Participaron como profesores invitados el Dr. Inderbir S. Gill de la Universidad del Sur California, Dr. Ingol Tuerk del Centro Médico de St. Elizbeth´s- Boston y el Dr. Peter Wiklund del Hospital Universitario de Karolinska, Estocolmo.
El curso se enfocó en revisar aspectos técnicos basados en revisión de videos. Orientado hacia la demostración de conceptos básicos para los principiantes, así como los detalles finos para los cirujanos con experiencia. La primera parte explicó acerca de nefrectomía parcial laparoscópica y/o robótica y posteriormente presentaron prostatectomía laparoscópica y/o robótica, cistectomía y derivaciones urinarias. La experiencia fue como estar en las salas de operaciones de los cinco profesores.

Biology to Host Workshop on Laparoscopic Surgery for Local Surgeons Saturday, Feb 12th
On Saturday, Feb 12, Bates College will host a laparoscopic surgery workshop taught by Dr. Jamie Loggins and Dr. Paul G. Curcillo II in the Carnegie Science Building. participating physicians will learn new lapraoscopic surgery techniques in both classroom and hands-on presentations. The workshop organizers have invited interested faculty and students to attend the lectures and to observe the practice surgeries. Workshop Design
Objectives
The workshop is designed to provide and enhance the laparoscopic surgeon’s knowledge of reduced port / single port access surgery. Course attendees will participate in didactic and hands-on sessions to facilitate this working knowledge. At the conclusion of the course, the participant will have a broad understanding of the following approaches as they relate to:
- Adoption of reduced port techniques (including single port access surgery)
- Techniques of accessing the abdomen for reduced port surgery
- Reduced port/single port access cholecystectomy
- An understanding of the safety and applications of reduced port surgery
Design
This is a single day, hands-on workshop. For the didactic course, the facility has state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment. For the hands on training, there will be 4 cadaver stations each with its own video tower. There will be two to three participants at each of the four stations.

Imperforate anus or absent anal opening, also called anorectal malformation, is a birth defect that happens during the development of baby in early in pregnancy, when the baby is still developing. In this defect, the baby’s anal opening (where stool exits) and the rectum (the last part of the large intestine), do not develop properly, preventing the child from to pass stool.
It was pretty scarred and inflamed. Here you see it nestled against the liver, before being cut out.
A healthy gallbladder is robin-egg blue. Mine was not healthy.
Originally the surgery was going to be laparoscopic, but the gall bladder was inflamed, and I guess when organs are inflamed they stick to one another, which made it too hard to work laparoscopically, so they had to cut me open and do the surgery the old-fashioned way.

SAN DIEGO (Jan. 27, 2020) Jesse Bandle, a staff surgeon assigned to Naval Medical Center San Diego's (NMCSD) Main Operating Room, prepares a patient for a robotic-assisted laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair procedure in one of the hospital's operating rooms Jan. 27. Robotic surgical systems, like those used at NMCSD, allow surgeons to perform minimally-invasive procedures, and this procedure was performed during a remote, tele-mentoring study. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way many facets of healthcare are conducted, and NMCSD has adapted some of its techniques and practices to keep both staff and patients safe while delivering the high-quality healthcare they’ve come to expect.
