These interesting spiders were in webs at the base of a cliff virtually covered in poison ivy. They were identified as this species by experts on this field trip, see discussion here:
bugguide.net/node/view/212891/
Location is somewhat approximate--my notes say it was at the Old Sugarlands Trail in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
One or more of these will be added to the Arachtober group as the rules permit.

Been playing with colors again just trying to look different from the usual. Will be 80 degrees today yippeee!!! Have a good one dear friends :-)
Transferred from X-T1 to my phone. Basic tweaks in phone's gallery editor. Tried transferring files at original size, but it didn't work. will redo these when I get home later this week.
After finishing a sketch of the lampshade above my bed, I decided to try taking a photo of it as well.
This was originally shot in colour (on my iPad), but with the intention of converting it to monochrome. I did a certain amount of tweaking on the iPad and a bit more with Gimp.
The photo was taken before I'd pulled the curtains and it was fairly dim in the room, which led to a fairly grainy effect, but I didn't want to lose the shadows that were present.
Inspired from Rie Elise Larsen.Couldn't buy one anywhere online so I had to make my own using scrapbook paper.
When Irwins in Southport was converted into a self-service Tesco, these wonderful glass lampshades were thrown out.
I rescued this one.
It could be at least 90 years old.
Round the top it says:
"PATD. 1909 No 20222.
HOLOPHANE F150 (Copyright mark)"
