I created this series by combining old family photographs and more recent photographs I have had shot myself. I tried to combine one of each in every photograph. The series is about exploring the power of time. I combine an old photograph with a photograph of an event or place I have visited.

Our project, 18-02-04P Applying 4H and Scout Knowledge for the Community in Omaha, Nebraska has two areas we are focusing on which is Soil and Water Management. Aquatic Society of Omaha INC, 4H, Scouts, and various other youth programs students will be using this raised bed project area. This project was started with students at Aquatic Society of Omaha INC along with students testing their own wells in Uganda with St Rosa College as part of Grades of Green Global project to conserve water and verify its quality. Crops need excellent water supplies but also, we need not to over watering the sites to avoid run off. With the 4 H curriculum, plus University of Nebraska at Lincoln course work Water Education Leader for Secondary Science, we will go over how water moves through different types of soil and test the water plus soil. To avoid nitrate population by over fertilize the crops. The reason we have all grouped together for this project is that a common theme has been expressed that each scout or 4 H individual has to find a place on their own to do experiments with plants. For example, there is a Basal contest at the state fair for 4H but most of the students live in Omaha were open fields are few in this urban area. This favors students in rural areas verse urban areas. This will give these students a place to grow their crop plus learn more of the food science behind modern farming practices. With more students having access to develop food plus the ability to share across 12 states with the North Central Regional Aquaculture Center more will be able to explain their “hands on” application. This also gives students the ability to go to county and state fairs to demonstrate their knowledge to others. With our grant we will be building larger raised beds for the 130 day Nebraska growing season.
The success of this program several factors such as enrollments with: scouts, 4 H, and more community entities getting involved. Another factor is how many are entering 4 H county and state fairs with this as an exhibit. The community part is based on the food provided to Stephen Center to help address hunger. I would encourage the need of students to volunteer at Open Door Mission and Stephen Center to assist them.
