OK, so I know the quality isn't great ... but it was taken on my iPhone at sunset. Low light ... yeah. But it was gorgeous out there, and I wanted to remember being there, at the doggy park, with Josh and Port, the day before Thanksgiving. It was a nice family afternoon. And my expression doesn't really reflect my mood (ha! when does it exactly?) ... but maybe I captured that "damn, is this thing going to take a photo any time soon?" that I was feeling :-)
I do like that you can catch lens flare with an iPhone though ... that is really cool.
I don't know if anyone ever reads my descriptions, but I write them anyway, so there!!
Was out today (August 20th 2021) on a forced vacation day, from 9:30AM til' almost 4PM. 80F today but it felt like 100F. This is a very active line and I probably flicked 20 freights today. 750+ flicks. By the time I get rid of a few duplicates, and bad ones, I'm guessing it'll be about 700 +/-. 700 to straighten, fix any color issues, upload, and also ID the writers. It's lots of time and as you can imagine, it's a lot of work, but so far it's been fun. I'm trying to not rush myself to post before I'm ready. I already have the flicks, and they're timeless. So getting them posted ASAP!!!!!! is not really my concern. Duh..
Had an interesting interaction with a guy while out there. Guy with backpack had walked back and forth across the tracks a few times. The lat time I saw him he was on the other side of a set, about 100 yards away. Next thing you know he's coming closer..... Closer..... And I'm like WTF? I'm way out here minding my own business. He walks within' like 10 ft. of me and I say "How ya' doin'?" he says something, and then says "Trains?" and I say "Yep." and he says "Oh.." and walks away. I think he was feelin' me out, as there's a small population of people who's homes are shall I say, mobile. I've talked to a few of them, and have never had a bad interaction, I just don't like people walkin' up on me when I'm trying to get away from the rest of the world out by the tracks. I go out there to get away from people, not to interact.

I follow some other amazing photographers on flickr, but for this I will talk about the ones who flick the freights. There are a few that I really love. Some it's because of the great locations they shoot at, and others it's the amazing little details they manage to capture. For me (right now) I don't have the luxury of walking the lines and seeing pieces static. 99.999% of my flicks the freight is rolling by at 10-50 mph and sometimes I don't really even know what I have until I get home, dump the memory cards and go through the photos. Because of this, most of my flicks are just straight on shots and documenting what I saw and where. I saw this freight here, on this date, here's what was on it, and i captured it. Buffed or scraped next week, well I have it on "film" for future generations (sounds corny, I know). There are times when a freight will stop in-front of me, and I'll walk up and get some shots of monikers, but it's rare.
Obviously in any area there are sidings where freights park for extended periods, I know a few spots, but as I get older, and older, do I really want to leave my car parked on the side of the road and walk 2 miles to capture some little details I might normally miss? I'd love to, but it's just not practical for me at this time, any many other people do it better than I could. Retirement is getting closer every day, maybe then, when my weekdays are free. :-)

During the Covid lockdown, I was working from home, and I was getting out benching like 2 & 3 times a month. Back at work, I'm lucky to have the energy to get out once a month. Every time I do manage to get out, I come home and my batteries feel re-charged. It's been so f-ing hot here in SoCal though, I can't wait for cooler weather and some clouds in the sky.

Meet Ed, our milkman and a key member of our local community. We see him once a week, on a Friday when he collects his money (if we're out of bed in time) --but he is, of course, at our house 6 days a week in the wee small hours in all weather delivering our milk and eggs. I interviewed him for the local magazine a couple of years ago and I'll put a link up to the article once I've tracked it down -- it makes really interesting reading.
Meanwhile though, I have to warn you that Ed has great powers of persuasion and somehow or another managed to get me to agree to take part in the London to Cambridge annual charity cycle ride -- a humungous 60 miles! Me, who cycles 5 miles a day on the flat and then needs an hour to recover! Ed did it last year and took 8 hours, stopping at all the water stops and pushing his bike up the hills. A condition of my taking part was that we would aim to take at least that long! So, if you are around this way in the middle of the night and you see a man wearing a Santa hat driving a milk float, be warned -- he might talk you into something!
As I had difficulty finding a location with an unobstructed view I missed the arrival of the winner at the finish line by about ten minutes. In case you don't know here are the results:
Geoffrey Ndungu won the Dublin City Marathon for the second year running in a time of 2 hours 11 minutes and 9 seconds. The time was outside last year's course record time of 2:08.33.
Paul Pollock from Belfast was the first Irish man home in ninth place in 2:16.30, ahead of Sean Hehir who finished in 2:17.50.
Magdalene Mukunzi was the first woman home in a time of 2:30.46 which was outside the course record of 2:26.13. Maria McCambridge was the first Irish woman through the finishing line in 2:35.28.
Luke Jones from Wales won the wheelchair section.
A total of 14,300 people registered for this year's race which was without a major sponsor for the first time in 20 years.

This was my first time shooting with this flash/camera combo so I really didn't know what to expect. Looks like I need to turn that aperture ring a couple clicks to the right next time. Had to get a little creative in photochop to get anything back in the highlights. You can see some unusual stuff going on in the oof areas.

You know your product is doing well in the marketplace when you start inspiring competitors to develop their own "not quite the same" take. One such product would be the Cu-Poche line from Kotobukiya.
Cu-Poche is a line that was clearly meant to compete with the reigning champion of the SD (Super Deformed) figure market, the Nendoroid line from Good Smile Company. Started in mid 2013, the line seems to still be active, but with releases numbering in the high hundred or so and not the 800+ releases that have graced the Nendoroid catalog.
While both lines do feature SD characters, the Cu-Poche figures are taller than their Nendoroid counterparts. Collectors of Nendoroid will know that there are several Nendoroid bodies, and the one that Cu-Poche competes against would be Nendoroids with the action bodies, having articulation rather than replaceable limbs.
With releases in both these lines being approximately 4,000 yen in 2013, what makes a Cu-Poche different and is it better or worse?
Using my sample Cu-Poche entry (Saber, again), I decided to do a bit more digging.
Like a Nendoroid, this set comes with several expression plates, relevant accessories and hands to utilize these accessories, and a dynamic stand.
Saber specifically comes with I believe it's Excalibur, the scabbard, an energy effect, as well as her Invisible Air sword (it's hard to make out on the photo, but take my word for it the various etchings on the coloured blade are on there too).
A comparison between this Saber and a 2013 action Nendoroid shows that while both have very similar points of articulation, the Nendoroid has at least one additional point of articulation just under the chest. Otherwise, they're pretty much a one to one comparison though that one missing point is a doozy. Both feature articulated ankles, but neither has fully articulated wrists.
The figure has several points of articulation on the skirt to allow for greater posing options, though the front flap only hangs onto the body through a very shallow groove, which causes that flat to come detached quite easily. I also found that her left shoulder pad came off quite consistently when posing.
Due to the slightly larger size, I found that handling the accessories and the hands of the Cu-Poche to be a significantly less maddening experience in comparison to the Nendoroid.
Paint work on the Saber is pretty good, with minimal overspray and bleeding even in some of the more detailed sections of her outfit. Decal work is solid as well, with the only hint of her Kobobukiya heritage being a slightly rough finish on the finer details of her hair.
So other than being slightly bigger, what else does a Cu-Poche offer?
Well, you may not notice this, but Saber is actually free standing in most of her photographs. There is no Nendoroid that I've ever owned that would actually allow you to do this.
So what sorcery allows for this? The answer is - magnets.
Cu-Poche have have magnets embedded into the soles of their feet which allows them to hold a vast array of positions while on their base. While the stubbiness of these figures doesn't exactly allow for the most elegant of poses, you can still coax some pretty neat stuff out of the figure.
The dynamic stand works as you would expect - there's a hole on the back of Saber, and you plug it in to suspend your figure in the air.
The actual arm itself looks very much like a Nendoroid arm. I guess the design is public domain?
So in the battle between Nendoroid and Cu-Poche, who won?
It appears that even today, the pricing between the two lines are very similar. The body hasn't changed, so Nendoroid still win the articulation game. My desire to go balls deep into either line is very limited as overly cute things are more of an accent piece in my collection rather than being the focus.
While each product line will inevitably have licenses unique to them, but given the same character I surprisingly would have to say I'd lean towards Cu-Poche for the magnets and the overall easier handling of the parts.
Naturally, with things I prefer over others, I don't see too many classifieds up selling this line, or even the Nendoroid cousin line, Parform, which I hope to get a hold of one day to do some analysis.
This is all just a nice way of saying I wouldn't hesitate to pick these up if I find them for a good price, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the next one to show up here.

How many times have I come across a story or parable which keeps telling me to seek within? Again and again, and it always sounds wise and even common sense. Yet as I allow time to pass by me and ripen the fruit, the more I get to glimpse a fraction of this truth. And it is 'a fraction'.

This last year has been, for me, like 'an axe to break the ice'. Academically I've understood that the treasure lies within, I've known that's where to look, but I've had no real comprehension of what that feels like or how to get there. Now i do.
Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding, according to Kahlil. Somewhere along the line i consented to it, not in my unconscious sleeping state of the last X many years, through gritted teeth I swore blind it was against my will, but truth be told underneath it all, in that marble, under that ice, I knew the day would (begrugingly) come when I would grant it had been worth it.
And when that day came, all memory of pain dissolves, the old shell falls away, and i am present.

Anyone who knows Clarence McCray knows he is as kind and awesome as they come. What few may know is that Clarence suffers from Stargardts Macular Degeneration and thus legally blind, but he does not let that slow him down as he still gets crazy on the BMX track. And he is no slouch on the track either, as he just recently won the 41-45 Novice Eastern Division Championship in Louisville KY.
After a recent visit to Wills eye Institute the McCray's were made aware that he is a candidate for stem cell research in the future and a procedure involving telescopic lenses which will enable him to drive again, something he hasn't been able to do so for the past ten years.
The fact that Clarence is not allowed to drive but gets out there on the BMX track and mixes it up just about every single weekend is amazing.
Now we can do something almost equally amazing and help Clarence and the McCray family by raising money to help pay for the procedures.
Come out on Sunday September 21st for a benefit race where 100% of our proceeds will be donated. We will offer treasure trove trophies and custom certificates. The entry fee will be raised to $15 to help ensure we raise every dollar possible.

Yes,i know it sounds funny but her name is Peanut. (It sounds less funny in Turkish though :D)..She came to our garden about 8 years ago and she is with us since then..I am not a big fan of cats, i like dogs better, but i love Peanut because a very special person first founded and feeded her in our garden and she reminds me of that very special person..
I was feeding her and i opened my camera to take a photo, and she founded camera's noise really strange and started to stare at it to understand what it is..Then this photo came out which i think reflects the beauty of her eyes..
I don't know which day I took this shot : that's not so important.
I know which campanile it is : it is the Saint Euphemia of Rovinj one.
But that's not important.
It was a hot and sunny afternoon in August on a campanile with a view on a hazed sea : and that's all that's needed to know about this shot.
The mist is gone, it's a sunny day and I need to go out and find something happy and colorful.
