Looking forward thinking back
Remember decades of the black
I see my past, I see my future
Industrial strength sewn in the suture
Greatful of my heart indeed
A rolling force willing to bleed
The mighty sun shines of history
We both understand there is no mystery

I know this is not a Peruvian booby or a Nazca booby because they're present only on the Pacific coast of South America, and we were in the Atlantic.
My best guess is that this is a brown booby. Before turning to a rundown on this species, a word about the name "booby,"
"The English name "booby" was possibly based on the Spanish slang term bobo, meaning "stupid", as these tame birds had a habit of landing on board sailing ships, where they were easily captured and eaten. Owing to this, boobies are often mentioned as having been caught and eaten by shipwrecked sailors, notably William Bligh of the Bounty and his adherents during their famous voyage after being set adrift by Fletcher Christian and his followers."
The brown booby was described by the French polymath Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon in his Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux in 1781.
The bird was also illustrated in a hand-coloured plate engraved by François-Nicolas Martinet in the Planches Enluminées D'Histoire Naturelle which was produced under the supervision of Edme-Louis Daubenton to accompany Buffon's text.
Buffon did not include a scientific name with his description but in 1783 the Dutch naturalist Pieter Boddaert coined the binomial name Pelecanus leucogaster in his catalogue of the Planche Enluminées.
The type locality is Cayenne in French Guiana.
The current genus Sula was introduced by the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson in 1760. The word Sula is Norwegian for a gannet; the specific leucogaster is from Ancient Greek leuko for "white" and gastēr for "belly".
There are four recognised subspecies:
S. l. leucogaster (Boddaert, 1783) – Caribbean and Atlantic Islands
S. l. brewsteri Goss, 1888 – Pacific coasts of USA and Mexico
S. l. etesiaca Thayer & Bangs, 1905 – Pacific coasts of Central America and Colombia
S. l. plotus (Forster, JR, 1844) – Red Sea through the Indian Ocean to the west and central Pacific
The booby's head and upper body (back) is covered in dark brown or black, with the remainder (belly) being a contrasting white. The juvenile form is gray-brown with darkening on the head, wings and tail. While these birds are typically silent, bird watchers have reported occasional sounds similar to grunting or quacking. Their beaks are quite sharp and contain many jagged edges. They have short wings and long, tapered tails.
This species breeds on islands and coasts in the pantropical areas of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. They frequent the breeding grounds of the islands in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. This bird nests in large colonies, laying two chalky blue eggs on the ground in a mound of broken shells and vegetation. It winters at sea over a wider area.
Brown booby pairs may remain together over several seasons. They perform elaborate greeting rituals, and are also spectacular divers, plunging into the ocean at high speed.
They mainly eat small fish or squid which gather in groups near the surface and may catch leaping fish while skimming the surface.
Although they are powerful and agile fliers, they are particularly clumsy in takeoffs and landings; they use strong winds and high perches to assist their takeoffs.
I know many of us have been eating leftovers from Thanksgiving but I thought it would be fun to play with leftovers found in my very messy studio. As I began to clean a bit today, I realized there were many scraps and leftovers that I could either toss or use on a creation. So, I decided to challenge myself and use them on a creation. To see the seven leftovers I used along with a close-up photo, please see my post here:

You know you make me wanna.
You know you make me wanna.
To start it off I know you know me
To come to think of it, it was only last week.
That I had a dream about us, oh.
That’s why I am here, I’m writing this song.
To tell the truth you know I have been hurting all along,
Someway let me know, you want me girl.
Everytime you see me what do you see?
I feel like I’m a poor man and you’re the queen.
Oh baby, you’re the only thing that I really need.
Baby that’s why…
You make me wanna call you in the middle of the night.
You make me wanna hold you till the morning light.
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall.
You make me wanna surrender my soul.
I know this is a feeling that I just can’t fight.
You’re the first and last thing on my mind.
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall.
You make me wanna surrender my soul.
Well I know that these feelings won’t end no, no.
They’ll just get stronger if I see you again.
Baby I’m tired of being friends.
I wanna know if you feel the same
And could you tell me do you feel my pain?
Don’t leave me in doubt.
Everytime you see me what do you see?
I feel like I’m a poor man and you’re the queen.
Oh baby, you’re the only thing that I really need.
And baby that’s why…
You make me wanna call you in the middle of the night.
You make me wanna hold you till the morning light.
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall.
You make me wanna surrender my soul.
I know this is a feeling that I just can’t fight.
You’re the first and last thing on my mind.
You make me wanna love, you make me wanna fall.
You make me wanna surrender my soul.
I’ll take you home real quick
And sit you down on the couch
Pour some Dom Perignon and hit the lights out.
Baby we can make sweet love.
Then we’ll take it nice and slow.
I'm gonna touch you like you’ve never know before
We’re gonna make love all night.
You guys will know by now how there's something really quite special to me about being alone and at one with nature and the sea. So I sat with interest and watched as this girl slowly edged up to and ran back up and down this pier, playing with the waves as they approached. I know the reality of what she was doing was daring herself to see how long she could stop there before getting her feet wet (the waves won in the end), but I couldn't help but picture myself in her shoes (I went and tried it later) standing there alone on a strip of concrete watching the Southerly winds bringing in waves right to her feet.
Standing there, alone, taunting the forces of nature. Loving it, respecting it, and feeling wowed by it.
These waves, they make me smile.

on.fb.me/HdVEPx Celebrate the small victories … It’s about perspective, right?? Did you know that by March 1st, statistics show that 84% of people that set health/fitness related New Year’s resolutions will have thrown in the towel? Don’t become a statistic. Celebrate the small victories and DON’T GIVE UP!!

Lion outside the Sofia Federal Courthouse, former National Museum. I like the reflection of the sun from a window opposite the street. See the white on the leg and infront. Anyone knows the history of this Lion?
The Filmplate testfitted to the Backcover. Just needed to know if there would be problems when trying to close the camera again.
I used stainless steel screws M1,6x4 mm and nuts instead of rivets (original) to fasten the Tongues (see red arrow). Main reason is the fact that's almost impossible to buy these small rivets any more.
After testing the fit of the Backcover to the Camerabody i put a piece of papertape behind the Filmplate (see picture) and marked the tape through the hole in the Filmplate.
This will be my reference for drilling the viewing hole in the Backcover later on.
We made a short notice booking to Copenhagen, Jayne had the first week in September booked off and we wanted to try and do a city break. Five nights hardly seemed enough but the short flight was ok. We flew over home heading east on a beautiful morning. I love flying over an area that I know and being able to see it from above. We had been warned that Copenhagen was expensive-it was! I hadn’t done any research before we set off but on the flight over, I read that taxis were expensive, so it was best to use the Metro from the airport, it isn’t far in to the city and the Metro was fairly easy to use. However! We should have caught the train, I read this whist we were sat on the Metro it has to be said! The nearest Metro stop, which I was frantically trying to work out, using my phone, travelling in and out of tunnels, turned out to be a 1.5 mile walk from our hotel, the rail station was .5. Never mind we were there to walk-subject to my lately diagnosed arthritic ankle, we just didn’t want to be towing suitcases over cobbled pavements at the same time.
We were staying in the Tivoli Hotel which was described as central, it is near Central Station but you wouldn’t describe it as central to the city. Our room wasn’t ready but we could upgrade for a modest amount plus we realised it would be a good idea to include breakfast in the upgrade deal. A good move as it turned out. Our room overlooked the train lines-all twelve of them!! We could already hear train brakes squealing along with the thump thump of steel wheels rolling over points and joints. It’s true to say that Central Station is a 24/7 operation. The overnight noise didn’t bother Jayne but I could hear it all night.
We dumped our stuff and I loaded up with the backpack and camera and we were straight out there. Copenhagen is a relatively small city but there is a lot to see. We were soon finding out that it has an extensive network of canals and bridges and these are a major feature of life in the city. Pan flat, the cyclist rules, There appeared to be twice as many bikes as residents, with countless thousands propped up everywhere you went. Where ever you looked there was silent conveyor of sit up and beg cycles being ridden in all directions. You soon got used to looking over your shoulder before making a move. The vast majority of bikes are left unlocked and almost no one wears a helmet ( I’m a no helmet man, much to the annoyance of the helmet zealots). Copenhagen is reputedly the happiest place in the world and it certainly came across as friendly and relaxed. It is, though, one of the most expensive cities in the world and two burgers and two small glasses of wine at Nyhavn cost us £50. Comically, there were four people, local to us, shouting out Jayne’s name, they had seen us going past and we had a laugh about the prices, They were sat drinking beer at £8.50 a pint. Despite the expense, the place was packed with people parting with their money. Wages are very high locally, as are the taxes. The high wages and high costs must feed each other in an upward spiral I would have thought.
Unfortunately the cost of entering buildings to go up towers etc. for a higher view of the city was also very expensive (to us). The tower at Christiansborg Palace is free but restricted by the lift system and you don’t get to the top, it does also open later than the others so you have a chance of seeing sunset over the city. Unfortunately the lifts were out of order on one of our best weather days. We did get to go up the day after but it was dull and I wasn’t overly impressed. The spiral tower across in Christiana, The Church of Our Saviour, was far more impressive. We climbed the tower here just after it opened on a stunning morning and the views are fantastic. There will be incredible bottlenecks when it’s busy though on the corkscrew stairs that get progressively narrower towards the top. Some people hog it to take endless selfies at the top and it is extremely tight up there, you can’t move up until they come down.
As usual, we tried to get to some out of the way places, with only five days and mixed weather though we had enough mainstream destinations to see. We had a day of heavy rain so we went back to the rail station which was a good indoor (and free!) destination, and made umbrellas and the rain the focal point of that days photos. The entire Danish navy seemed to be at anchor, we just missed an open day on one ship. Some I could photograph, others were guarded and had restrictions, I got the evil eye from a couple of guards as the spotted the big Canon in my hand. I can’t imagine that they could police the Japanese and stop them from getting their photos and selfies though. I always act very openly with the camera and if people look at me suspiciously I smile and give them the thumbs up. In a rail station I usually ask the police. In Central Station the police were in their station and I never saw one move out, it is covered by extensive CCTV but there were some very unpleasant people, drinking and watching for people being careless with their belongings. We were lucky to be in the station on Sunday as a tourist steam train arrived, it sat at the platform belching smoke and steam for fifteen minutes, it was also coming back in an hour so we had an expensive coffee and waited to see it again. There was big military event outside the Christiansborg Palace on Monday, with a parade through the city that came past just as we were in a good spot to view it. The area was full of soldiers wearing their medals. We haven’t discovered the reason, although someone suggested a passing out parade for new recruits. Maybe the ships were in port for this as well.
Tivoli Gardens is another big draw and we went in, again it was fairly expensive, it had been a stunning day and the biggest problem was contrast, with deep shadows and a bright blue sky. We stayed until dark, it opens late and is very colourful. We went on the world’s highest carousel and got flung around 260 odd feet in the air. Luckily, we also found a bar that served wine at ‘only’ £5.60 a glass so we sat and watched people have fun screaming and shrieking above us.
There are many buildings with copper domes, entire copper roofs, even modern buildings are often clad in either brass or copper to blend in with the ancient buildings around them. Like every city we have visited, tower cranes are in abundance. There is a lot of development going on and unfortunately a lot of it is around buildings that you would want to photograph. We walked 12 to 14 mile every day and took in most of the sights. We didn’t really do any interiors, only towers and the railway station. At the time of writing I haven’t looked at what I’ve got, I have around 3000 shots, some on the G1X which I used when it was raining heavily as it easy to put in a pocket. I have a lot less time for editing these days so it will be a long process I think. To save time I am going to create a list of generic tags that I can copy and paste to each upload – the time saving is enormous – so apologies to anyone who gets a photo of a canal when they wanted a steam train or vice versa.

You turn it on
Then you're gone
Yeah you drive me
Crazy...
driving home last night, as luck would have it, Aerosmith's "Crazy" was playing on the oldies rock station, (where I park my dial when nothing else seems to work). Yeh, Steven Tyler, just like I pictured him...my last shot in the flickr stream. Back in the Saddle Again. Then I get home and here's a comment from one of my favorite flickr friends, Jewellight8 (check out his photostream--it's like no other). Well, the man sez he's all about the screamin' demon--and I did have a second shot I didn't post--but hey, --won't cost a dime to add to the fun--so here ya go, Jewellight8, a second dose of Steven!
I didn't know you could buy McDonalds Ketchup in a bottle away from their restaurants, but here in Italy you can.
In October 2013:
McDonald's has said it is to stop serving Heinz ketchup in its stores after 40 years. The world's biggest fast-food chain said it would drop the ketchup after Bernardo Hees, the former head of rival Burger King, took over as Heinz's chief executive. "We have decided to transition our business to other suppliers over time," McDonald's said. In February, Heinz was purchased in a $28bn (£17.3bn) takeover. McDonald's said that it would work with Heinz "to ensure a smooth and orderly transition of the McDonald's restaurant business", which has 34,000 restaurants around the world. Mr Hees took over after Heinz was bought by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Brazilian investment fund 3G Capital. Burger King is controlled by 3G Capital.
McDonald's uses the ketchup at many stores around the world, though only in Pittsburgh and Minneapolis inside the US.
"As a matter of policy, Heinz does not comment on relationships with customers," the ketchup-maker said.
I know you are fed up with the bokeh pictures, but today a Hungarian Potterhead and youtuber passed away. I never met him, but he had awesome jokes and was a really intelligent guy. I hope he will meet so many awesome people in heaven!

Nevermind, let’s go, let’s go everywhere, everywhere, even though we’re scared, we’re scared. Cause it’s life, it’s life, and it’s happening, really really happening. Right… now
------
i don't want to have to do this living. I just walk around. I want to be swept off my feet, you know? I want my children to have magical powers. I am prepared for amazing things to happen. I can handle it.
------
You think you deserve that pain but you don't

Children know laughter
They know tears
Children know peace
They know chaos
Children know acceptance
They know rejection
Children know joy
They know pain
Children know abundance
They know lack
Children know health
They know illness
Children know fulfillment
They know emptiness
Children know hope
They know dismay
Children know love
They know hatred
What they don’t know is WHY!
poem by Namie Elisha
I checked on the P.C. World web site today for a Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet and it said they had some in stock, so off I went to have a look at it, when I got down there they didn't have any in stock, hence I don't know why I'm smiling.
I might be uploading the color version of this shot later, because it's driving me crazy. The trees in the background are where I took my last uploaded shot and the car is a dark blue, so the colors are beautiful, but I really like this shot, too. I can be really indecisive. A lot.
Vignette was not added, if you're wondering.
you shouldn't know this song unless you played too much final fantasy +/ you are a big fan of nobuo uematsu.
For ZenzenOK: Since I didn’t have time to go to the beach, this picture will do for now.
I usually leave my ipod in my car… with the FM transmitter + holder. Oh and the plastic reflective thing that you see over my ipod is a clear protective sheet I got in Japan to protect the ipod from scratches.
For the group, What plays in your ipod?
This is what was playing in my ipod when I took the picture. 時の放浪者 (The Wanderer of Time) from Final Fantasy’s first Vocal album; Pray.
I didn't realize how old this CD is because I listened to it all the time for the past 10 years or so. I can’t really live without final fantasy music… FF music always relaxes me… and reminds me of those sweet memories of playing video games 18 hours straight. anyway, here’s the lyrics:
はるか遠く夜の越えて
砂漠の海をさまよう
神を声はしんきろう
忘れられた人々
影は白く揺らめき立つ
今一たびの幻
青く燃える勇者の夢
永久に眠る人々
Crossing the distant night
Wandering the desert sea
The gods' voices are images;
The forgotten people
Shadows flicker palely, then stand;
For one moment, an illusion
A hero's dream, burning blue
The people, sleeping forever
In case you are curious (because this song isn't in any of the ff games itself). This song is an orchestral version of ff3/ff6's Terra Theme...
I thought I got there too late. My feet were placed squarely on the blacktop parking lot at one of my favorite soul places, a space I have been to recently but haven’t been to, ever, to simply be and write.
Sam and I used to come here during his home school day to collect wood and explore and we still come here so he can ride on the tire swing and we can throw rocks into the river. We have explored the area fully and know it pretty well from those moments, but I wanted to come to know this place intimately by connecting to it quietly, with my body connected to its body, my soul connected mindfully to its center.
The autumn-colored leaves I would kick away from the foot path were long gone, returned to the Earth. Their crunchy selves had surrendered completely and I had missed that process.
Then I stepped into a spot off the path, by a small stream to sit and write and I realized I hadn’t missed the process at all. I stepped onto what looked like Earth and instead, I was stepping into a pile of leaves that was choosing to merge with the soil. My choice to take a moment or two or sixty to be in a space of quiet soulfulness was graciously allowing me to become a part of the process, too.
I discovered how deeply they had piled themselves up, creating a soft sofa and pillows just for me so that I could sit upon them and experience them, their luscious returning-to-dirt-scent. They seemed to giggle as I sat down with my paper and pink notepaper and trusty black mirado warrior and started to move it, contentedly, along the page.
In that moment it was as if the leaves hugged me, welcoming my reality to rise up and meet my longing, leftover from months ago when I was in a time of profound sadness, a time when I wasn’t able to settle into their crackly, crisp newly fallen selves. Instead, I got to sit upon their softened not quite moist selves.
It was then that I heard the unsurrendered leaves, the ones still on the trees that pushed against one another, applauding my return. It is like those leaves held on, bravely, past their amber-golden time to their withered crusty selves so I could hear my message.
Divinity says, “Be with me. Trust. Follow my lead. Don’t try so hard, but do know the strategy that works best, beloved one.”
I felt an exclamation point rise up as two trucks rumbled past and the wind blew and suddenly I was aware that my stomach was telling me of its hunger.
The exclamation was part celebration as I heard the words “Beloved one!” and knew Divinity meant me.
I sat, still, for a moment, just being with the leaves and the trees and the water. I heard a frog singing her song. I smiled in gratitude.
I wrote:
Sometimes surrender comes quickly and sometimes the holding on, like the crusty withered leaves held on, is the surrender. It is in the unknowing of whether or not its right or wrong and being ok with it no matter which way the judgment or comparison lands that holds the power of truth.
Today, do I go deeper? I asked. Do I go further on the path, closer to the larger parts of the river, or did I get what I was supposed to get here, on my leaves-turning-to-dirt sofa.
I smelled the leaves below me, supporting me. I heard the wind play my ears like a drum and the grass and leaves pirouetting and doing a grande jete or many grande jetes. I watched a plane use the air as a mattress. A man with a grey covered hood covering his head and speckled deck shoes covering his feet walked silently behind my surrendered leaf throne.
SUVs and pick up trucks a stone’s throw away rumbled past, separated by steel from all this wonder right here, oh so close.
Did any of the drivers or passengers capture the bright pink of my shirt out of the corner of their eye, strikingly out of context in this place I sat, deeply entrenched in awe?
It doesn’t matter whether they do or do not, but I prayed for each of them anyway.
I realized then that although I hadn’t gone deeper on the path, I had gone deeper.
My heart was swollen with joy.
I wasn’t too late. I was right on time.

YO! LEAVE SOME COMMENTS,PEOPLE!pretty please?
I know a lot of you are drowning in or cutting yourself on your piles of mortice chisels. But where I live you very rarely see them. After three years of tool hunting I think I have found three. And this is one is clearly the most exotic of them all.
This mortice chisel was made by Billnäs Bruk (or Billnäs Works if you prefer), not far from where I live. So should I be surprised to find one. Well, I am. This is only the second chisel I have found with the Billnäs logo on it, and it's the first mortice chisel bearing their name.
Billnäs Bruk was to Finland what Sheffield was to the UK or Eskilstuna was to Sweden. During a spell of some 100 years they churned out everything from wrought iron to cutlery, axes, garden tools, puukko knives and the lot. And as much as you can easily find artifacts, tools, utensils or cast iron marked Billnäs, we have very little chronological knowledge about production volumes and periods. The Billnäs archives were stored in a building in the Billnäs village for decades after the production ceased, but were then ordered to be burned by a property manager.
So, although Billnäs is well known and some of their products re easily available, there is a lot of information missing and some tools are surprisingly hard to find. Maybe the volumes of woodworking tools were never large, which could be logical as Finns are not known as great makers of fine furniture. The needs of the time were more practical. Hoes, spades, rakes, plows, axes, hammers and sledgehammers where the tools of this era - not necessarily finer woodworking tools.
So, this is a rare tool - in what appears to be near original length. How do I know. Well, I don't. But considering the edge is 1/2 inch wide and it is slight tapered outwards at the edge, I don't think it could have been a lot longer. Not being anywhere near knowledeagble as far as mortice chisels are concerned, I donut know if tapered mortice chisels are common or not. But it's the first I have seen. The Billnäs logo on this one is also rather archaic. A much more elaborate logotype can be found here: www.flickr.com/photos/77333663@N07/8509092437/. As far as age goes I cannot even guess. It's clearly forged and it seems to be missing the ferrule. The handle looks old but I cannot say if the chisel was sold with or without a handle or if this handle is original.
Whatever the case, it's as lovely a find as it was surprising.
I know this is a goofy image, but it's my birthday and I'm getting goofy! LOL...I found this little rock while combing the beach at Flathead Lake. I didn't realize it until after I'd got my rocks home that this one reminds me of a little sandman waving hi! Am I nuts or what! lol....does anyone else see this?
Off to work..yuck, but it's a sunny gorgeous day! Have a good one everyone!
We all know places like this - the abandoned barn, the falling down shack out in the country. . . I don't have much confidence in landscapes, so I'm working on them while here at the cabin. The mountains are hidden in the clouds as the snow falls at the summit, yet here at this level the trees are still full of fall color. That will change shortly as the next storms roll in. I have plenty of supplies, and a generator, so I'm good.
You know what's awesome? I came upstairs with my face covered in flour to talk to my daughter for a minute before getting in the shower, and she said not one word about it because she knew it was for a photo.
Her big movie premiere is tonight and I have been up since 4am excited about it. I need to take a nap. :)
Change in the air
And they'll hide everywhere
And no one knows who's in control

My husband says my superpower is that I drink coffee and know things. I love learning about a variety of topics, such as how things are made and how they work. I also enjoy reading about history, the cosmos, the Earth, and the weather, among other subjects. Bill Bryson’s book, “A Short History of Nearly Everything,” is one of my favourites.
