I know that background is not so great, it´s a mixture of warm sunset colors with blue color of swimming pool. Next time I´ll try to be more carefull with framing :-)

As some of you know the vehicles in other places in the world are not as big or as powerful as they are in the USA but we figured no big deal five adults should be fine even if the car is a little smaller than we're used to.

These lakes are southeast of the large crater in Sete Cidades that I posted earlier. As is the story on most of the Island there's a lot of really steep mountainous regions and the car was really struggling to climb here and bottoming out, it got to the point the car was like a stubborn mule, it would climb no longer ! As the lone driver I decided that we had to get rid of some of the dead weight and it wasn't going to be me so my brothers had to walk up rest of the way :-))) fortunately for them it wasn't to far.

A jumping spider of some kind, maybe someone knows.

I just know that he/she's cute!

Did you know that Parakeets, Owls, Myna's etc.. all share the same kind of home? They nest / roost in holes / hollow of tree trunks that are often created by other birds like Woodpeckers. On this day, we found several coconut trees with such holes in them. And a large flock of Rose Ringed Parakeets was active with some of them in these holes - while others were on the branches nearby.

The spotted owlet had occupied one of those hollows in the tree and the Parakeets clearly didn't like that. So they were continuously making calls and one of them even landed on the hollow to scare the owlet away. The owlet came out and landed on this perch very close - this was around 3 PM. It was sleepy, yawning and had droopy eyes. We felt sorry for it, but didn't disturb the fight and watched from a distance.

you know the rest...after having another eagles' earworm for the better part of a month and every single day, all day, it finally went away...it wasn't so bad though thanks to those fine harmonies but it did get a bit tiresome

i don't play much music while driving, it becomes too much, a sensory overload competing with the wind, the sound of tires on pavement and the sounds from the engine and transmission...so one of the few times we play some music, this happens...maybe i'm just getting old but the sensory overload thing has always been an issue...my ears used to ring for hours after being on the job for a several hundred miles

the night skies in some of the places we stayed were simply jaw-dropping, my attempt here a mere fraction of the full effect, the silence here was probably even bigger than the skies

and the earworm?

I always know when autumn is upon us. The days grow shorter, a chill electrifies the air, and the camellia sasanquas in my hedge in my rear garden start to flower. Well, there may me no chill in the air - quite the contrary actually - however my camellias are budding and the first perfect bloom has appeared.

My "Plantation Pink" camellia sasanqua is always the first of my camellias to blossom in Autumn out of the specimens in my camellia hedge at the rear of my garden, and it seems to have thrown almost overnight. Where yesterday there were tight buds, today there are crepe like blooms.

Vigorous and fast growing, Camellia Sasanqua “Plantation Pink” is an upright evergreen shrub with masses of large sweetly scented single to semi-double, soft pink flowers and a wonderful centre of golden yellow stamens. The blooms occur over quite a long period between March and June in the Southern Hemisphere which makes them very popular. They are often used for hedges or to cover walls.

I know I have to get up out of my chair and meet the world, but when I do this happens.

My wife Diane took this and I do not know how she got this effect, but I like it. This is at Oregon’s Clear Lake which often shows good reflections and color in the clear water. I bought the Inuit style paddle partly finished and he told me to do some further shaping to make it feel best for my hands. It is used with a fairly flat stroke which is easier on shoulders than the usual one. It works well for me for lake touring in the wooden kayak I built from a kit from Pygmy Boats in Port Townsend, Washington.

A back-lit orange butterfly nicely isolated on this orange flower. I haven't been able to identify the species so if you know please comment below. This shot was taken on Cayo Guillermo last week.

Did you know that during Autumn, we have a changing of the leaves in Florida also? Of course, not to the extent to the states north of us, but we do have a significant change. (More so in North Florida)

This picture was taken in Chipley, Florida. Many, many years ago, I would swim in this lake as a young fellow. It is known as Blue Lake Park and is a very nice place for families who want to have a picnic and go swimming. There is playground equipment for children too.

I'm sure you will notice the moon already coming out.

One more thing - I live about one mile from here and am able to take my grandchildren here for them to enjoy it as much as I did when I was their age.

In all my years of bird photography I have hardly ever photographed a Rook and I have never posted an image of one to Flickr before. I dont know why, I rather like them.

I know, it's another sunset. I've moved south to the Sarasota area. There are some beautiful beaches here and I'm drawn to the water. The weather has been great but I almost feel bad mentioning it after hearing about the latest snowfall in S. Ontario.....almost:-)). Thanks for the suggestion Mike re: the beach. Loved it. We'll have to get there again when you get here. Get packing!! I've got some groundhog I've saved just for you. Better than squirrel!!

Let me share with you, just because you see someone on the outside doesn't mean you know who they are on the inside. It is wrong for anyone to assume who you are; be that a chance meeting or a flickr picture. Do not let society, family, friends or a lover tell you who or what to be.

If you've seen my previous images of Aghinish, you'll know that it's largely a limestone plain barren of all but a few trees. At the edge of the plain however there is this fine grove of pines that don't suffer from a lack of soil and aren't regularly flooded. I did have to tread gingerly through the saturated ground though, and avoid copious amounts of horse shit, as the land owner normally keeps his Connemara ponies on the property. I don't *think* I had to edit any of their poop out of this image, taken on one of their trails through the pines.

On a morning like this you have to strain your eyes to see...and sometimes they play tricks on you...For Slider's Sunday. HSS!

Alstroemeria, the genus named after the Swedish baron Alströmer who brought them back from a trip to South America in 1753.

Also called the Peruvian Lily or Inca Lily, is a South American genus of about 50 species of flowering plants.

The flower, which resembles a miniature lily, is very popular for bouquets and flower arrangements in the commercial cut flower trade.

They have a vase life of about two weeks.

You know the drill - warm coat, woolly hat, gloves, wellies, snow shovel and you're working hard to clear the snow from your driveway. That was me this afternoon. I had planned to treat my garden birds to a few live mealworms after my hard work but 'my' Robin wasn't prepared to wait. He flew into my garage and helped himself ... he knows where I keep them!

So, I thought it was fitting to post a Robin in the snow. This was taken in my garden a few years ago. The white feathers made him very distinctive but, sadly, last winter was last time I saw him.
