We know that winter weather is right around the corner here in the Driftless region when the American tree sparrows arrive after leaving their nesting areas in the high arctic. Historically, they were the only native sparrow that stayed and could survive northern Iowa's terrible winters but in recent years a few other tough sparrow species have been able to pull that winter resident trick off too - thanks to global warming.
I know you're all like me. You want to see those moody clouds, foggy landscapes, and the dancing of raindrops. It is not always easy to get the motivation to go out on those dreary days. Sometimes I need a little push but I've never once regretted being out there. All I need at the end of the day is a hot cup of tea and a cosy blanket.
Occasionally, he turns to watch us...almost as if he were waiting for us to catch up. We finally get close enough to call out....Do you know where Demi is?
Have you seen her?
“I know you’ve got the best intentions, just trying to find the right words to say. Promise I’ve already learned my lesson but right now, I wanna be not okay. I’m so tired, sitting here waiting. I’m so over all this bad luck, hearing one more “Keep your head up”. Is it ever gonna change? So let me just give up, let me just let go. If this isn’t good for me well, I don’t wanna know. Let me just stop trying, let me just stop fighting. I don’t want your good advice or reasons why I’m alright. Don’t look at me like that, just like you understand. Don’t try to pull me back because you don’t know what it’s like.”

Almighty God's Word "You Should Know That the Practical God Is God Himself"
www.holyspiritspeaks.org/videos/practical-god-is-god-hims...
Almighty God says, "God’s appearance in the flesh means that all of the work and words of the Spirit of God are done through His normal humanity, and through His incarnate flesh. In other words, God’s Spirit both directs His human work and carries out the work of divinity in the flesh, and in God incarnate you can see both God’s work in humanity and completely divine work; this is the real significance of the practical God’s appearance in the flesh. If you can see this clearly, you will be able to connect all of the different parts of God, and will cease to place too much of a premium on His work in divinity, and to be too dismissive of His work in humanity, and you will not go to extremes, nor take any detours. Overall, the meaning of the practical God is that the work of His humanity and of His divinity, as directed by the Spirit, is expressed through His flesh, so that people can see that He is vivid and lifelike, and real and actual."

"Paw Prints Left By You" (author unknown)
You no longer greet me, as I walk through the door. You're not there to make me smile, to make me laugh anymore. Life seems quiet without you, you were far more than a pet. You were a family member, a friend... a loving soul I'll never forget.
It will take some time to heal - for the silence to go away. I still listen for you, and miss you every day. You were such a great companion, constant, loyal and true. My heart will always wear the paw prints left by you.
This is an old picture taken when they had only been together a few weeks. We bought Penny because Stella was lonely for dog company. She wanted a playmate.
This is the shit they write in the movies.... Its unreal. The fuck I do to deserve you? Idk but Im gonna stay on this path of fate because baby you the echo to my soul... Nothing can make my heart beat faster than hearing an I love you come out those lips. ♥♥ Mi Amor

Not to chase the warmth,
But to stay ahead of the darkness."
Anyone that knows me....nows that I love sunrises and that I almost have a compulsion to go out and take photos of them.

Thanks for all the lovely comments and faves on my images, they are very much appreciated.
When we grew up, images were telling stories and showing them. Now they’re all into selling. They’ve changed under our very eyes. They don’t even know how to do it anymore. They’ve plain forgotten. Images are selling out the world. And at a big discount :-)

I know that it's a first for me today - almost unbelievable in fact - to see robins and redpolls together at the same place on the same day. I'm guessing this common redpoll has never seen an American robin before, and likely never will again. This young guy will soon be headed for the North Pole region to nest.
I know this shot has been done dozens of times before, but I'm afraid I find it irresistible. This is the Towanroath Shaft engine house on the side of the cliffs in between St Agnes and Chapel Porth on the north coast of Cornwall. This is part of the Wheal Coates complex and the shaft was 600 feet deep - well beneath the sea. The engine house was built in 1872 and 138 people were employed at the mine and processing plant in the 1880s. Production was sporadic and the mine was never really successful although an attempt to increase production was made in 1911.

John Hiatt - The River Knows Your Name
www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1rwwFTl2vM
Oh the river knows your name
And your tears falling like the rain
All around you suffering and pain
Oh the river knows your name
And the river hears you cry
As the lightning cracks the open sky
As your Momma sings a lullaby
Oh the river she knows why
Let the river wash you down
Beneath the surface with a rushing sound
Like a freight train passing through a town
Let the river wash you down
Let the river take away
All the words you and I could never say
In the silence Darling let us pray
Let the river take it all away
Oh the river she knows your name
From the Brazos to the Wabash to the Seine
No two journeys are ever quite the same
But the river knows your name
Oh the river knows your name
Dedicated to all those who feel forsaken and forgotten
Well we all know its not but I've been singing along to Roy Orbison as I so often do when a photo 'strikes a chord' as it were... when I am processing a raw file.
Padstow Harbour actually but looking so sunny last October between lockdowns.
Looking like a typical post card and I’m well aware of that but it just epitomises Cornwall for me re the light and colours so I make no apologies for putting this on. Neither a sunrise sunset or slow shutter...the four S’s that a landscape photographer strives for lol. Just that Cornish light that I happen to love ❤️
Thank you so much everyone for all your encouraging comments which I appreciate so much.
I am unable to reply or comment at the moment as I’m not feeling too well at present but I wish you all well....❤️
we know eachother rl as wel and 2day we are off to the beach.. knowing its the first day of sunshine here in belgium of the whole summer.. so beachy... we are on our wayyyyyyyy ♥
This is an unposed portrait (shot with permission) of a homeless man in Bristol. He was sat outside a city centre shop with all his worldly possessions plus dogs.
Unfortunately for him, the helping hand in this instance that looks like an 'angel' touching his shoulder, is that of a shop window mannequin behind him. I didn't consciously notice the juxtaposition at the time so it was not staged.
There are many fake beggars on Britain's streets. I don't know this man's personal story (although I know he is known to homeless outreach workers) BUT that something in his eyes cannot be faked. I know he is in pain. And that makes me feel something.
I know, the obvious title. No waggy tail here. The doggy became disinterested immediately after initial eye contact. There was no treat coming through the glass anyway. The red stain is from the red ink the businesses were bleeding since spring 2020.

You know you are a blessed man when a Summer Tanager comes in on you unannounced and poses perfectly for you and your group in perfect light…until you get tired of taking his picture!
I have photographed them a few other times, but they were much higher up in the trees and always severely cropped in. In this case, we were standing atop a hill observing/photographing a painted turtle lay her eggs and the limb he chose was high in the trees, but just some 30 feet strait out from us.

"Honey, I know, I know
I know times are changing
It's time we all reach out
For something new, that means you too
You say you want a leader
But you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
And let me guide you to the purple rain"

E basta..."

No, I know it isn't the Mersey but Dartmouth I believe..but I that song always come into my head when i see this shot. Plus Hoseasons are bombarding my inbox with what they call tail wagging holidays lol... it is looking increasingly hopeful that we may be able to take a holiday in this country soon but the constant Jet 2 hits on my mailbox are getting the delete button as fast as they come in. No way am I going to breathe in recirculated air or packed into a flying sardine tin. Devon and Cornwall and the Lake district ect are going to be rammed though - so will someone put a word in for me if they know Richard Branson so I get an invite to Necker Island ? My son said he will look after our dogs if we do get an invite..........
The beautiful town of Dartmouth situated on the mouth of the River Dart is one of South Devon’s most popular and enchanting towns. With its charming historic streets, scenic river location and surrounded by South Devon countryside you have to go a long way to find a town as pretty.
Set opposite the town of Dartmouth, Kingswear is a charming character village that has some of the most beautiful views across the River Dart.
Set on the banks of the River Dart, Kingswear village is well worth a visit or a stay to take full advantage of the beautiful South Devon countryside.
another tulip - but I 💛 the shape of this beautiful yellow one and the almost pure black back ground - you can see a wee bit of green foliage. Sweet!
Anyone that knows me well, will know how important this shot is to me and how long I've wanted to achieve this. Maybe its a bit overdone but it is the jewel in the crown for many Dorset photographers (and elsewhere too) if the conditions are like this.
I've had many failed attempts and they all involve a really painful trek up a steep hill in the dark, when you reach the top you need an extra 5 minutes to recover before you can even set up. Translation: three months of daily yoga is not enough preparation!
The mist was stretching out in all directions. I took many shots (I've already posted my favourite) but I thought it was good to try a pano.. I like shots where the castle is a bit further away showing the surrounding mist.
It means so much that my first trip further afield was this!
I make a mixture of mealworms, peanutbutter and chopped raisins for the bluebirds. Here he is about to get some.
You know I am not a fan of over-saturation so I will tell you that this bright blue is right out of the camera. I guess you could say he is in his breeding colors.
Lowell Township, Michigan
I know no sweeter angelic flowers,
Which are called the red poppy...
More tender I have not met petals -
Shining, as if varnished.
Their purple delicate heads
Over the field, like small flags,
From the wind dodge so cleverly
And gracefully, but full of courage.
Ripe and scatter the seeds,
Predict the future and fate will tell,
And looking into other times,
We'll be obliged to keep the secret.
I discovered the secret of poppies when I was a child,
When I was walking through a field of flowers,
I've never seen a more beautiful sight in my life,
Since then, I've gained the power of poppies....
You know what you should do? Definitely get last minute things from Necrotize. Though, don't worry, there will be more fun stuff coming to Salvage Station s o o n. I'll definitely be showing off some of that ASAP.
For now, though, get a ride over to Necrotize!
Know what you want to do,
hold the thought firmly, and
do every day what should be done,
and every sunset will see you
that much nearer to your goal.

So, those of you who know me, know that I often wander off in the woods and hills for hours on end camera in hand. Unfortunately on this occasion I made every mistake imaginable, wrong kit, kit missing, wrong settings and rushing to catch the light.
At first glance, you may think I’m crazy. The image looks decent enough right? Look closer and I’ll list everything that went wrong with this excursion.
1 - Wrong lens. I have been working with one focal length lately as an exercise to improve composition. This scene would have been so much better on a wide angle, but I only had a 40mm Macro lens with me.
2 – No tripod. I decided to pack light one camera, one lens, no tripod. I normally take a full bags worth of kit on a hike
3 – I shot in Jpg instead of Raw. The previous night I had decided to check the shutter count on my Nikon D7200. For some reason this only works 9only ways I have found to do this) is to upload a jpg to an online service that can then tell you. Foolishly I forgot to change back to Raw before I went out the next day!
4 - Rushing the shot. As it was getting on in the afternoon, the sun was dropping really quickly. I was already on my way out of the woods when i spotted the scene. With the combination of falling light and wrong lens, I rushed to get an image as quickly as I could
While there’s nothing wrong with shooting in jpg format. It really doesn’t leave a lot of editing doors open for a final image. Especially when shooting directly into the sun in a scene like this one. So, I decided to publish this as to always remind me to check and double check everything in the future.
I'e decided I will be writing a blog post to go into more detail about my "faux pas" later this week
