Y’know, I’ve never totally liked these units. They looked pretty dingy in their later years. However, when only one was left at the time, it would have been a shame not to go out for it. Considering CN likes to under-install PTC, it was a miracle this veteran had it. On this day almost a year ago, IC 2466 leads a grain shuttle up to Rantoul, where it’ll shove down the spur towards Fisher to get loaded.
i know how dreadfully bad they go together as a dyptich but i couldn't upload one without the other. sometimes you've just got to clash. haha.

The Golden Ratio informs a lot of my art and photographic composition. The Golden Ratio also informs the design of the golden revolver on all the swimsuits and lingerie, as well as the 45surf logo! Not so long ago, I came up with the Golden Ratio Principle which describes why The Golden Ratio is so beautiful.
The Golden Number Ratio Principle: Dr. E’s Golden Ratio Principle: The golden ratio exalts beauty because the number is a characteristic of the mathematically and physically most efficient manners of growth and distribution, on both evolutionary and purely physical levels. The golden ratio ensures that the proportions and structure of that which came before provide the proportions and structure of that which comes after. Robust, ordered growth is naturally associated with health and beauty, and thus we evolved to perceive the golden ratio harmonies as inherently beautiful, as we saw and felt their presence in all vital growth and life—in the salient features and proportions of humans and nature alike, from the distribution of our facial features and bones to the arrangements of petals, leaves, and sunflowers seeds. As ratios between Fibonacci Numbers offer the closest whole-number approximations to the golden ratio, and as seeds, cells, leaves, bones, and other physical entities appear in whole numbers, the Fibonacci Numbers oft appear in nature’s elements as “growth’s numbers.” From the dawn of time, humanity sought to salute their gods in art and temples exalting the same proportion by which all their vital sustenance and they themselves had been created—the golden ratio.

Amazing and ambitious bikepacking trip through southeastern Oregon and Nevada. Barely saw a soul the entire 4 days. Water was very scarce and there were no services anywhere enroute. Hot springs, antelope, and sagebrush aplenty. Route: ridewithgps.com/routes/4008502/

More FX Experimentation Madness with cumulative layering of NIK filters. Selectively added light and definition in addition to color cast and bumping contrast. The original shot was low-key and had good range of tones. Dumped all that thinking to get Magazine Bright: overly snappy, heavily processed. Compare to Original Photo Here

The Swedish artist Nathalie Djurberg is known above all for her animated films, which seem sweet and innocuous only at a first glance. In her art, Djurberg treats themes such as obsession, power, pleasure, desire, and violence.
The ‘Snakes Knows it’s Yoga’ installation is a project composed of sculptures and projections of animated films, the air filled with experimental music by Hans Berg.

You know when you look in your doll cabinet and think "Ah you! I haven't seen you in a while - time to get you in front of the camera!". That happened to me today with Adele. To me this version is the very best we have seen Adele 3.0 so far. I hope we see more of her in the future as this really is a lovely sculpt.

My last upload was taken from the other side of the lighthouse, looking out to sea. This is taken looking back towards the historic town of Ferryland. If you visit, you can park on a lower parking lot back near the Ferryland Archaeological Site (www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/articles/ferryland-archae) and walk to the lighthouse from there. Or,do as I did, and drive up a narrow (very narrow!) dirt road and park in the upper parking lot. You will still have to walk for fifteen or twenty minutes, though, to get to the lighthouse.
I've placed these two photographs on the map and if you look at it in the satellite view you will get a better appreciation of where this structure is located.

I like the fact that on those random "off" days I can toss a frozen meal into my LaptopLunch carry case... and still not have to worry about finding a clean fridge at work!
Oh dear... you know when you think something's a good plan... then realise, a second too late perhaps it wasn't such a great idea?! Barney and I were out on a mountain yesterday and it was hot and Barney had drunk the water I'd given him, we were nearly back to the car, where I could get him more water but spying a large puddle/ small pond (or, as it turned out pit of mud!). I sent him in to let him cool off. It was only after he'd merrily dashed in and lain flat out and shoved his muzzle under the surface that I realised that the water was soup-like with amount of mud churned into it, probably from sheep trampling through it all day!
Of course, by that point it was too late to do anything about it, so Barney had a fantastic time leaping around getting more and more covered in sticky mud for 10 minutes or so, then leaped up at me, as, I suspect a "thank you", when he came out, so I got covered too! Wasn't that a nice thing to do? ;-) Luckily, his teflon coat came in handy, by the time my dad had returned from his bike ride the mud had pretty much disappeared... a very good thing, as we were being driven home in a friend's nice, clean car!
Barney had an all round great day, really. My dad was going for one of his insanely long bike rides (130 miles of mountains!), so we tagged along. Barney & I saw him off on his bike and then went for a 9hr hike across the borders between England and Wales. Sheep were everywhere, meaning Barney had to be on his extendable lead much of the day, but it also meant he got to stalk his little heart out, so he didn't mind!! I found a beautiful forest for him to run around off leash and a river to play in, so he was just in heaven all day. I don't how far I walked... 12, 13 hilly miles?... maybe, I wasn't keeping track. Barney must have gone 3 or 4 times as far as that and yet he was up and bouncing after a short rest, whereas I spent the rest of the day vowing I'd never move again. Of course, that wasn't to be, at 9am this morning, we were out the door for an hour and a half's walk (in my case, hobbling slightly) around the local fields :)

I know I cannot paint a flower. I cannot paint the sun on the desert on a bright summer morning, but maybe in terms of paint color I can convey to you my experience of the flower or the experience that makes the flower of significance to me at that particular time

Do you know what a memory ghost is? It's not an actual ghost of course. It's the pizzeria that takes you back to your first kiss. It's the song that brings back those long summer nights. It's the movie you can't see without missing your best friend. It's the book you used as an escape during a rough time. A memory ghost is a memory that is so strong, it's left an invisible mark so it can never be forgotten. Some memory ghosts are so strong they cause an eruption of emotions.
What do you do when your memory ghost is a person with dementia?
If they aren't the person you used to know and love; then let them go. Stop allowing yourself to get hurt because you are hopeful that they are still that person.
The memory will continue to hurt you don't let it overcome you. Don't think of it as giving up. You are simply letting go of a toxic situation. You are attempting to keep some sort of sanity and happiness, which should always be your goal.
Dealing with dementia in a loved one can be harder than dealing with a bereavement.
You don't have to cope alone:

I know, this is over the top, but I LOVE IT! My nail specialist is a sweetheart. His name is Andy, and he's very creative. I go to Trinity Nails and Spa on Brandon Blvd. Almost all the techs are family, and I love them. They are all artistic, gracious and kind, and we have a lot of laughs.
Andy and his wife Ann are taking their son to Viet Nam for the first time soon, so this may be my last "Andy Creation" for a while. They usually go for a few weeks, because it is a very long trip and they have lots of family there. They have a big family here too.
If you try them out, call for an appointment, it's just better for them and you that way, though they definitely take walk-ins all day long too. Tell them Kathleen sent you. They'll know it's me, LOL!
You have to respect your feet my people! They carry you around in this life, and while my feet are by no means perfect, I like them and appreciate them. Ergo, I take care of them.

You know the weather is getting dreary around here when I start going through my archives of my trip to Costa Rica... I don't know what kind of lizard this is but they were everywhere. Whenever I was walking down a path I'd hear rustling in the groundcover as they scurried off to hide. I suspect the stray dogs who lived on the beach (including my dog Osa) survived on them.

Regular viewers will know that I make a visit once or twice a year to a nature reserve that has introduced southern clade pool frogs (Pelophylax lessonae) - ie not the native race - present. These frogs liven up the pond and provide plenty of feeding opportunities for the local grass snake population. One of the interesting things about these frogs is that the males (or at least some of them) develop yellow irises and light yellow/golden heads during the breeding season, as with this one. Why they should do this I don't know, and I am not sure whether it has been studied. I think I was a little premature with my visit despite the warm and sunny weather as this was the only male (right out in the middle of the pond, inevitably) showing these colours as yet, and there was little in the way of croaking or other breeding activity, in spite of counting around 60 frogs. Another visit in a couple of weeks is definitely required!
I know that I sometimes have crazy views... but we can talk about it ;-)

I know summer is long gone but its just begun to really feel that way. The wind is cold, first frost approaches, my morning glory vines have died out including my other potted wildflower garden. This weekend i took down the wasted vines, flowers...consolidated the left of soil and stacked empty pots. My patio is now bare save for my basil, chamomile and chile plants which i will be bringing inside very soon in hopes of keeping them alive for winter. while i am sad to watch the "abundance" of summer come to a close i am elated at the changes in the air, the glow of fall in the trees...the inevitable "rest" of winter.
....but its photos like this, taken in summer's hight that will help get through the coming months of getting up in the dark chill( but i really do love winter!!)...and spring is such a miracle- to watch the green roll back in with such force! i cant wait to have my morning glory vines growing and flowering again. this time i will start the seeds indoors as soon as spring hits. should be good.

You know, sometimes you get so tired that you have nothing to say about your quilts, LOL!
Well, I guess I can try. I won a fantastic FQ bundle of all the prints from Cloud 9's Simpatico from Contemporary Cloth back in December. That was totally perfect, because I had coveted them for a long time! I thought, great, I'm going to make an Oh, Fransson! mixtape quilt with them for my friend Amy (since I feel like those are her kind of colours and patterns). But then, I woke up one morning and saw Julia Rothman's Type prints featured as a part of Red Pepper Quilts' Sunday Stash, and I just knew that I had to have them for this project. Amy is a designer -- although I guess technically there is nothing about Type that has anything to do with graphic design or typesetting! -- so eventually I also settled on Tula Pink's Modern Alphabet pattern.
I had some worries that the letters are not as clear and effective as Tula's, but in seeing the photo here, I think they came out okay. It was a bit of challenge to think about distributing colours and prints evenly, all the while attempting to make the pieces of each letter work together.
The back is a whole lot of Kona Aloe -- I've never used such a bold solid on the back before! -- and a large scrappy panel. Unfortunately I guess they aren't quite centered on the back, but the three letters are *supposed* to say AMY:)
I have very little in the way of scraps left, since I used a ton of the quilt leftovers to make an accompanying gift bag. But if you've read this far and might be interested in my scraps, drop me a line!

One of the rhinos scattered around Exeter and beyond.
I processed this one in Affinity Photo, more than usual. There wasn’t much contrast between rhino and background, so I added a layer to reduce the saturation, and masked it out on the rhino, leaving it a bit more colourful than the rest.
