A long time ago, my first camera, bad focal length, low quality definition, but I find these pictures of Ecuador still have a kind of charm.

Someone left the corms by their gate for people to help themselves. I had a few and sent some to a friend. Still flowering months later. Thank you stranger.

there's a vulnerability in the early days of spring. within nature, within ourselves. this reminds me to be kind; to walk gently on this beautiful earth.

So true. At work today I got a phone call from a client that wanted to pay his bill and book some shooting instructions, and before hanging up, he asked how my running was going because he was in on the conversation when I first started running about 2 months ago. So, I told him how I had hit my goal yesterday and he responded enthusiastically, and congratulated me and asked when my 5K was, and gave me the kindest words of encouragement. This from a busy, high powered executive millionaire, under 40 years old, who took the time to take an interest and make me feel like the nonsense in my life actually mattered. It made my day and it's not difficult to see how someone that young could be that successful with an amazing attitude like that. (Previously he also promised me.... yes, he promised!!!! ... that I will be able to run a half marathon, and that we'll pick one out and run it together. If I ever DO run a half marathon... I'm pretty sure I will dedicate it to him!)
Try a little kindness.... you don't have to be a millionaire to make someone else feel like one.

I would have liked to have spent a little bit more time on this, I think I could have done this a bit better.... but ran out of time (no pun intended! LOL!!) Wooden printers letters

This year I am giving some of my special Christmas ornaments to my daughters for their tree as we slowly downsize in our own material things. But these ornaments have sentimental value, so I photographed each one I gave away in hopes of making a table top book with the images as a keepsake of these memories for myself. Some I made into Christmas cards for this year. This is one of them. One of the best gifts to give is acts of kindness.
I rarely photograph people. However, back in 2018, a scene unfolded before my eyes that was too compelling to ignore. As I sat in my car I watched it for five minutes and I was really mesmerized. A young woman, quite well dressed, approached a homeless man on the wet street. There was no hesitation in her step, no faltering in her approach. She sat down beside him, their worlds momentarily intersecting, and they shared a sandwich. The simplicity of the act, the unspoken understanding, left me wondering. I can't claim to know her reasons, but in that moment, I wanted to believe in the existence of pure kindness.

My goldfish that I had for about 5 years died the other day. I was sad and she made me a goldfish earring so that I could be with my goldfish in SL. It is a goldfish earring made out of kindness.

Going though my winter archives and we sure don't seem to get these pretty snowfalls anymore. I remember that the snow was waist deep trying to get to this spot, I am hoping this winter is full of "kindness". - Split Rock Lighthouse, Beaver Bay, Mn.

For two days now I've attracted in some unhappy, miserable bullies.
Today I finally stood up to one.
It felt sooo good.
Sometimes, though it may induce fear, you need to stand up for what is right.
Then, fear can take a hike.
i love these words from naomi shihab nye:
“before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside,
you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing.
…then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore.”
when we know sorrow, our hearts actually expand. to fully love means to fully grieve. our hearts widen in both directions. we’re in this together, all of us connected. life is so precious; it’s only kindness that makes sense anymore.

in any moment we can begin again: slow down, pay attention, and be kind. kindness changes the world in quiet yet powerful ways.
This is an older shot. I haven't been able to go out birding for the last few months. My home is getting some much needed repairs and my puppy hurt his leg, so I haven't been able to take him to doggie daycare.

today is random acts of kindness day. i love this idea, today or any day. kindness has a quiet power that changes the world. life is difficult, how can we be anything but kind?
smile at a stranger, compliment a coworker, feed parking meters, leave an inspirational note on a windshield, say a heartfelt thank-you, buy coffee for the next person in line, run an errand for a loved one, or write a letter to a teacher who made a difference in your life. there are many small ways to be kind.
be creative, spread kindness. let’s light up the world.

This little guy was protected by all his Mum's and the behaviour shown here is when a vehicle approached and one of the females just reached out to her friend to reassure her all would be ok.
