When crossing the road I suddenly realised I had forgotten what I was crossing it for. Then I realised that a large red truck was coming towards me and I should probably move from it's path. However I couldn't decide whether to go right of left so I just stood there screaming and screaming until one of the guys in the truck (which had managed to stop in time) climbed out and lead me to the side of the road. (the right - not my first choice, what an idiot!)

Evelyn Myers

Born: May 1, 1894 (Bodie, Mono County, California)

Died: April 5, 1897 (Bodie, Mono County, California)

Interred: Bodie Wards Cemetery, Bodie, Mono County, California

The Angel of Bodie

Albert K. Myers, born in California in July 1861 and Frances (known familiarly as Fannie) Ordella Parsons, born in Minnesota in October 1862, were married in 1893. The following year, while living in Bodie where Albert worked with the hoists in a mine, Fannie gave birth to Evelyn on May 1, 1894.

In early April 1897, a drainage ditch was being dug around their home. Little Evelyn was fascinated by the workers and stood close by, watching. One worker, using a pickaxe, didn't realize how close Evelyn had moved toward, and behind him. He accidentally hit her in the head on a backswing.

Doctors were called and they tried valiantly to save her life, but her injury was too severe. Three days after the accident, and less than a month shy of her third birthday, she died. The turnout for her funeral was large, and the people of Bodie nicknamed her headstone, and the little girl who now lies below it, "The Angel of Bodie".

The Legend:

At the Bodie Cemetery is "The Angel of Bodie,” a three-year old child that was said to have been accidentally killed when she was hit in the head by a miner’s pick. Her grave is mounted with a white marble angel and on one occasion a man visiting the cemetery with his little girl, noticed that she was giggling and seemingly playing with an unseen entity.

I love and respect TV too much to harm or destroy any TV, so I did not throw this brick through this old TV. Some kids must have had fun doing this, as the TV is placed on top of an old stable.

From the street with craziness! I love the expression of this man, he's a rock singer and I found him out of an osteria with a lot of beers already drunk.

Thanks for your comments and favs!

Greetings, my fellow Flickrees! I know this might come as a surprise to you but yes, I'm still alive and kicking! And taking photographs again. Obviously. :-)

This one's the result of a collaboration with DJ and Bodypainter Toby. He's got hell of a talent and we will be working together again soon. He came up with this idea when we first met. He wanted to do a Kill Bill bodypaint and asked me if I could shoot and retouch it. He even provided the Hattori Hanzo replica. Poor Theresa had to sit and stand still for nearly 5 hours. The photo shoot itself took about 1,5 hours.

As you might have noticed I've been on a creative break lately. After finishing my 52 weeks project I hardly felt the urge to pick up my camera again. But since drama group was put on a hold for this year, I started to think about doing some bigger photo projects. And then my fellow photographer Andi came up with this intriguing idea for a calendar and asked me to get involved. It's called "Painted Heroes 2013", which means there's superheroes involved so I needn't give it a second thought *g*. For me, it's the biggest collaboration so far with 2 other photographers, one bodypainter and about 8 stylists / visagists. I ended up doing 4 of the 12 calendar sheets, including concept, shooting and processing. Right now we're choosing the models and shooting starts by the end of May. The whole project is covered by the local media and I can't tell you how excited I am about it! I don't know if or when I'll be able to post some results here on Flickr, but at least you will get to see some behind the scenes shots. Stay tuned! :-)

One Nissin Di866 at 1/2 power zoomed to 50 mm shot through a Westcott umbrella from low left (makes two aligned umbrellas, one on top of the other). One flagged LumoPro LP120 at 1/4 power zoomed to 24 mm from back left for some rimlight. All flashes were fired by Cactus V4 radio triggers.

This Osprey seemed to think this strange structure was a perch made just for him. I didn't know what it was myself but now that I see it is made of copper, and that there is one on each light pole (the highest points) on the Fort DeSoto pier, and it's in Florida where lightning kills more people than in any other state, I have decided that the perch is really a charge dissipater.

Antonio Canova's statue Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss, first commissioned in 1787, exemplifies the Neoclassical devotion to love and emotion. It represents the god Cupid in the height of love and tenderness, immediately after awakening the lifeless Psyche with a kiss.

Once upon a time there was a king with three daughters. They were all beautiful, but the most beautiful was the youngest, Psyche. So beautiful, in fact, that people began to worship her instead of Venus, the goddess of love and beauty. This made Venus very jealous, so she asked her son, Cupid, to make Psyche fall in love with a horrible monster. However, when Cupid saw how beautiful she was, he dropped the arrow meant for Psyche and pricked himself with it, falling in love with her.

Despite Psyche's beauty, her parents feared no one wanted to marry her. They were told by an oracle that she was destined to marry a monster, and they were to take her to the top of a mountain and leave her there. Instead, the wind kicked up and swept her away to a magnificent palace where she was taken care of by invisible servants. Every night, a visitor (her new husband) came to her. He told her he would only visit her at night and she must never try to see him.

While her invisible husband was very good to her and the invisible servants saw to her every desire, Psyche was homesick. She gained permission from her new husband to allow her sisters to visit. When they did, they became very jealous of her lavish lifestyle. The sisters coaxed Psyche into peeking at her husband by saying he was a monster who was fattening her up to be eaten and that she must kill him if she wanted to survive.

That night, armed with a lamp and a knife, Psyche visited her husband while he slept. She was so surprised to learn that he was Cupid that she dripped hot wax from the lamp onto his shoulder, waking him. When Cupid made sense of the situation, he immediately left Psyche, hurt by her quickness to think so badly of him.

Still angry, Venus set about in getting revenge by forcing Psyche to complete some extremely difficult tasks. Cupid, now recovered from his physical and emotional wounds, began to miss his beloved Psyche. He soon learned of his mother's shenanigans and convinced Jupiter to order Venus to stop her persecution of Psyche. That day, Psyche was delivered to Jupiter where he gave her a cup of ambrosia to drink, making her immortal. He then ordered the nuptials between the two lovers to be perpetual.

Puma (Puma concolor) named "Hermanita" (little sister) killed a Guanaco up on the hill, and was feeding on it all morning. When she finished her breakfast, this wild female Puma patrolled the area surrounding the kill, scent-marking and searching for signs of any intrusion. Here she licks her nose (some biologists think this makes the nose more sensitive) and continues her patrol.

We are doing that quite literally. The front of Place e la Baume will be a concrete courtyard to the street with ivy climbing the walls and a camellia or two.
