It's been 7 weeks since our Red Maine coon cat Eddie disappeared from our home and it broke our hearts we have not been able to find him. living in the countryside with open fields all round I'm afraid he may have been shot or killed somehow. We haven't been able to trace him even though we hired a tracking dog to scent trail him. We miss him terribly and wish it could be a different story. To help us mend our hearts and give Casper our other cat a friend , meet Deedee. She is a little star and is the size of a teacup, haha here she is playing kill the toy which I swear is the size of a mouse. She will be a hunter just what you need when you live on an old farm. I could not resist a kitten shot of her playing .

Many of the forests in Colorado's northern frontier have been decimated by Mountain Pine Beetles that burrow into the pine trees. Warmer temperatures have allowed the beetles to flourish. In the year of 2020, Colorado had experienced it's 3 largest forest fires in modern, recorded history. Warmer temperatures, lack of precipitation, strong winds, questionable forest management, and beetle kill forests are mostly to blame for their explosive nature.

Another life lesson learned in an old Maine cemetery: live well, love well, and rejoice in every sweet breath. The next thunderbolt might be the one that takes you.
So Anita and I came to Chincoteague Island yesterday, arriving mid to late afternoon and after an initial tour of the island headed over to Assateague Island in the hopes of spotting some wild ponies. They proved to be as illusive as the black bears we hunt for! But we did spot this turtle trying to cross a very busy loop road. We stopped, put on the four way flashers and hopped out to give him a hand. Anita, having previous experience picking up Snapping turtles refused to touch him and I was photographing the event. Traffic was backing up. Finally he recognized us for his guardian angels and hiked himself up and started trundling across the highway. He got to the oncoming traffic lane and kept going but a car was coming at him and I stepped up and motioned to the car to stop.... he kept coming! I stepped another step into the lane thinking surely the guy would stop but he kept coming! That inconsiderate driver missed me by Inches and the turtle by less! But in the end, the turtle was safe on the other side of the road and we went on our way. Later in the day we watched 3 young men do the same with another turtle with much boisterous good will and waving some bottles of... I don't know, Beer maybe? LOL And so today, who knows what wild adventures await. We are off pony hunting which may involve electric go-carts, bicycles or boats. Who knows???

Another shot of the huge Grizzly Bear laying on the carcass of a musk ox calf. The bear is protecting his kill from Ravens and in his mind, the photographer.
This bear was in the area for three days. I had to work most of the day but would travel to where the bear was after work to photograph it. This is the biggest Grizzly I have ever seen, I've seen bigger Brown Bears. (Brown Bears and Grizzly Bears are technically the same species. The Brown Bears are coastal bears that gorge on salmon and can be up to twice as big as the Grizzlies of the interior and norther areas of Alaska.)
With a collection of classic and historic Alcos on the property a trip to the Batten Kill always results in something cool to see. This scene shows from left to right the ex Delaware and Hudson, now Southern New England Railroad RS-36 5015 being restored to its grand D&H paint scheme, Battten Kill RS-3 4116 and the newly restored Alco S-2 D&H 3012 just returning from a day of work along the old D&H Washington Branch.
