The altar piece in the background is the final work of Keith Haring.

Keith Haring’s Untitled (Self Portrait) 1989, at nearly twelve feet high, is a celebration of life and humanity. Created just a year before Haring passed away due to AIDS-related complications, Untitled (Self Portrait) presents a figure mid-dance, with the boldness of an artist living joyfully in the face of death.

As I was walking through the exhibit, I noticed this woman standing at the bottom of the triangle. There was a couple to her left, but I photoshopped them out to make the image more about her experience. To add to this idea, I shot at f/2.0 to make Keith's artwork fall out of focus. Keith's work is iconic, and I feel it is recognizable even out of focus.

Keith Allen Haring (1958 – 1990) was an American artist whose pop art emerged from the New York City graffiti subculture of the 1980s.

Europe, Netherlands, Rotterdam, KunstHal, Keith Haring expo (hard cut - B, L & R)

Shot towards the entry of the Keith Haring "The political line" expo and the front facade of the KunstHal. Information about the exposition is here.

Haring's work has become an integral part of the world's big and heterogeneous family of (neo-)modernist visual languages. And through the way it's commercially (re)presented, his work nowadays has lost much of its layered symbolism and political meaning. The KunstHal expo facilitates the viewer to (re)connect with this. Although the 'white wall' museal context is in a way alien to his work, it's rarely objectionable.

Still pleasurably distracted, so my posting speed will remain low.

I ran out of bricks. This comprises all of this type of blue that I own. Ah well, it made for an interesting texture if nothing else.

Haring made 1000 of these posters and distributed them at an anti-nuclear protest. The "radiant baby" in the middle of the mushroom cloud represents innocence in the middle of horror.
