DPS Assignment: Tell me a story.
My parents celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in Jan. 2001. Mom died in 2002 and dad in 2003. During those 65 years, their marriage survived the depression, WWIII, the death of three of their babies and bouts of alcoholism. Having Mom's wedding ring reminds me that when they said "I do", it was the real deal.

Over the past 21 years, I have saved a newspaper on the date of each of my daughters' (3 of them) birthdays as a keepsake. So to date, I have approximately 55 newspapers(21+18+16). I thought they might make an interesting read someday for them, and their children. I don't think my girls remember that I do this.
I also save newspapers with major, historical headlines. So needless to say, I have quite a few. The first newspaper I saved was on the birth of my oldest daughter in 1985.
I think I will begin to scan the front pages into my Flickr account over the next few weeks just for kicks.
Anyway, along with the newspapers, I collected my kids' artwork, hand-made Father's Day cards etc etc.
To begin my 'Collections' Set, I ran across this note to my youngest daughter Megan, from the "Tooth Fairy", which I believe was delivered when she lost her last baby tooth in 2001, a week after 9/11.
The message explains it all, and you can understand why I, I mean, the Tooth Fairy had other things on his/her mind at that time, and was "...running late" in delivering the dollar for her lost tooth, and the fairy dust(glitter, sprinkled across her pillow...a family tradition that we, I mean, the Tooth Fairy began when each one began losing baby teeth).
I'm hoping Megan will get a chuckle, and possibly a tear from reading this message someday.

Hand-painted baby food jars. Fairy jar has baby's name and stats on opposite side. Boys' jar (not pictured) has a snail w/ stats and blue/white trim.
During a recent class session, CSUF credential student Melissa Torres worked on a portrait of "Miguel" for the Memory Project. Torres called the experience "amazing," and one she hopes will put a smile on the faces of the children in Mexico.

Mini quilt (25 x 25 inches) I made 4 years ago with my kids drawings. I made some iron on transfers of their drawings onto white canvas & then made the quilt. I put some tabs on the top part to be able to hang it on the wall. It was my first attempt and I haven't made another quilt since then.

My most recent custom made keepsake scooter cake topper - this commission of the recipient's actual scooter was to top a birthday cake (not made by me) for a scooter fan. His birthday party sounded amazing - if I understood correctly, it was going to be organised as some sort of scooter rally / music festival with about 200 invitees - how amazing does that sound? I hope that I get to see some pics of the bash.
Page from a scrapbook my grandmother put together for her sister, apparently as a Christmas present, 1948.
My grandmother built a regionally-famous doll house called "Keepsake House" in the early 1940's. Of interest here is my grandmother's very detailed description of several rooms in the dollhouse that she built.
She also details, on the cover, her photographic technique, which was crude but effective. I'm amazed at how close-up she was able to get with a simple Kodak box camera.
