It wasn't the sunrise I was expecting to shoot this morning, but it turned out to be a much more interesting sky just the same. Happy Holidays from the Juno Beach Pier!

You ain't worth your salt as a photographer until you have your mandatory pier photo. So here's my token pier shot. All kidding aside, the Juno Beach Pier offers some great lines and symmetry - and stunning colorful water to capture some good shots. This was sunrise.

Juno Beach is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,176 at the 2010 census. As of 2018, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 3,648. Juno Beach is home to the headquarters of Florida Power & Light. It was also the original county seat for the area that was then known as Dade County, Florida.

As a sister settlement to the town of Jupiter to the north, the development was named, at some point in the nineteenth century, after Jupiter‘s wife, the ancient Roman goddess Juno.

The designation in 1944 of a namesake D-Day landing beach in Normandy, named for Juno Dawnay, a Canadian officer’s wife, was purely coincidental.

A pier was built in 1946 and the town was platted in 1948. The original pier was destroyed during a November storm in 1984 and a new 993-foot Juno Beach Pier was built in 1999.

The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial is a World War II cemetery and memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France, that honours American troops who died in Europe during World War II.

The cemetery is located on a bluff overlooking Omaha Beach (one of the landing beaches of the Normandy Invasion and the English Channel; D-Day June 6, 1944). It covers 70 ha, and contains the remains of 9,387 American military dead, most of whom were killed during the invasion of Normandy and ensuing military operations in World War II.

One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.

In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was only one.

This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,

“You promised me Lord,

that if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life there has only been one set of footprints in the sand. Why, when I needed you most, have you not been there for me?”

The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”

After 6 days of surreal drama caused by Hurricane Sandy and it's aftermath, I was amazed at how calm everything was again. The red flags are down and the beach is open to swimmers. The waves are just gently rolling 2 foot high compared to yesterday's 8 foot surf. I felt such surprise and relief that I nearly cried. Well, to be honest, I actually did cry... but just a little. No one noticed, they were probably all teary eyed too. Just when you think you can't take another moment, life can surprise you. ALSO I was able to talk to my sister in NYC just briefly and they are lacking power, but doing well, considering. I am very relieved about that.

Looks nice on black

I have uploaded several new shots to my hurricane sandy but set set so check them out if you like. I only risked my life to get them :)

Looking back at these Europe 2008 pics on my hard drive, a lot of them would have been more useable if they weren't blurry, or if I hadn't used Auto mode with flash for so many of them, or if they had been better-composed. But I can't be too hard on myself, either. I had just bought my first DSLR a month before, and was still learning how to use it. And I don't even know if I'd heard the word "composition" as it relates to photography at that point. But with a crop, this one is useable.

This is the Église Saint-Aubin 14750, taken at 8:33pm on an August evening in Normandy. It may look crooked, but notice the fence line goes down toward the right, whereas the steeple leans left.

Almost a full moon rise coming over the Juno Beach Pier in Juno Beach Florida. Tomorrow will be the full moon rise. Hopefully we will have a clear sky!

To say the Juno Beach Pier is photogenic would be an understatement. A modern marvel of engineering reaching out towards the horizon above the turquoise waters of south Florida. I have photographed this pier from every conceivaable angle, and it's just as beautiful beneath it's boardwalk.
