Joining a growing band....
Latest addition to the growing collection of Glasgow buses being secured for preservation is 61598 (SF51YAD). It’s seen here at the GVVT and has recently secured a dot-matrix screen to replace the LED screen it had most recently whilst in service. These buses were delivered with dot-matrix screens so this start of its restoration has begun. It’s good to see more and more vehicles such as this being secured so that future generations can see and enjoy them.
The B10BLE was probably the last of the Volvo buses which used a big engine running de-stressed, harking back to the days of Gardner and the Leyland. It was basically a low-entry version of the earlier B10B which itself replaced the Leyland Lynx. It was replaced by the B7L - least said about that the better - which followed the new mantra of smaller engines running hotter which reduced emissions.

JAGO: “Oh hullo there! We didn’t see you there.”
ORSON: “Indeed Jago, we didn’t! You were very quiet, crouching there and peering through Daddy’s front white picket fence.”
DAISY-MAUD: “We were just taking tea.”
ORSON: “It’s such a lovely day, we didn’t want to take tea in the parlour.”
JAGO: “So we decided to have it outside, here in the garden instead.”
DAISY-MAUD: “Would you care to join us? We always have room for friends. There is plenty of hot tea in the pot.”
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 21st of October is "behind the fence", where you have to take a photograph of a fence and something behind it. I am not quite sure whether this will cut the mustard for this theme or not, so I have a second version if it doesn’t. The white out-of-focus bars to either end of the photograph are pickets in my front garden’s white picket fence. Often, if you should happen to pass my house and peer through the pickets on the fence, you will find my bears playing hide-and-seek, celebrating birthday parties, enjoying picnics, or as we find Daisy-Maud, her brother Jago, and friend Orson, taking tea. I hope you like my choice of this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.
Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.
Daisy Maud is Jago's little sister and was made by the same friend in England who made him. She is made of German mohair with floral fabric cotton paw pads that match her pretty sunhat, and glass eyes. A sweet and loving little girl bear, she is happy to be reunited with her big brother, Jago, and enjoys being spoiled by her new Daddy.
Orson, named after the little bear constellation, was made by the same friend who made Jago and Daisy-Maud. He comes ready dressed in 'trousers' made of German mohair accessorised with embroidered braces. His paws are ultra suede and his eyes are glass. He is described as being a little bit serious minded but very friendly. He's fine once he gets to know you.
This beautiful nursery rhyme tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1930s. It features six cups, saucers and plates as well as a teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated and feature different nursery rhymes including: "Ding Dong Dell Pussy’s in the Well", "The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe", "Old King Cole", "Pat a Cake Pat a Cake Baker’s Man", "Little Tommy Tittlemouse", "See Saw Margery Daw" and &This Little Pig Went to Market" amongst others. The set I acquired from England, and it is a sister set to a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set and a 1920s faerie tale tea set. There are also doll (bear) sized tea spoons which are sterling silver salt spoons, and the spoon in the "Little Tommy Tittlemouse" sugar bowl is an Eighteenth Century mustard spoon and is sterling silver.

I forget the name of the two women -- that is, their stage name. But their act involved having their pigtails tied together and it didn't go over well. That is to say, they didn't even win a runner-up position. Oh, well, maybe next year.

Combine the shallow-depth-of-field with Sony NEX-6's latest face-tracking auto focus, and you can see how the moving video keeps the model's pretty blue eyes in focus, while blurring the background! The Sony Alpha NEX 6 has much better bokeh than the cameras I have been using! :)

Well hello my fair niece, so glad you could join us in such short notice. Everyone, let me introduce you to Maleficent, better know as the Wicked Witch of the East. She is the one responsible for putting a curse on Snow White and prince Charming´s first born daughter. Maleficent, let me introduce you to these finely selected elite of so called bad guys. The lovely lady on my left is Ursula the sea witch. She once traded a mermaid her voice for a pair of legs. Triton the mermaid king locked her away for doing so. She is also the one who managed to get me a strain of Alice’s and Aurora’s hair . Which I used to create two dark haired clones.
The pale faced man to my left is called Gaston. He was once a possible love interest for Belle, we all know her as Scarlet Witch. He even tried to keep her away from beast. Unfortunately his attempts to win Bell’s heart over failed and managed to brake the curse I placed upon Beast. Gaston fell of a balcony and died. I managed to fix him up a little bit.
The man on my far right is captain Hook. He has been a close friend for years, always helping me when I need to get stuff done on sea. He has been kind enough to lend me his vessel multiple times.
And last but not least is this tall gentleman on my right. He is the Royal Vizier of Agrabah. He fell head over heels in love with the daughter of the Sultan, princess Jasmine. Unfortunately her heart belonged to a street rat. He tried to make her love him but all his efforts failed miserably. He eventually killed the Sultan and put a voodoo curse on his corpse. Now he rules the country using the dead Sultan as a puppet. Princess Jasmine fled the castle and has been roaming the country ever since.
Now that the introductions are done I will tell you all about our plan to bring back balance to the fairy tale universe. But first I’ll give you a minute to freshen up and to rid yourself of your travel outfit.

CITY OFFICIAL DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS - Mr. Auguste F. Borde Served as Water Rates Collector for Many Years — Came Here in 1858 on America. Following a week's Illness. Mr. Auguste Francis Borde, for more than twenty-five years city water rates collector, died early yesterday morning at St. Joseph's Hospital, where he underwent an operation a few days ago. Mr. Borde was sixty-five years of age, having been born in San Francisco In 1854. Four years later he was brought to Victoria by his parents in the famous old steamer America, which carried the vanguard of the Cariboo gold-seekers. Mr. Borde early became associated with the Victoria volunteer fire brigade, and for some time served as Its chief. When Seattle was swept by fire in 1889, he went over to assist the local chief In battling the outbreak. He was appointed water rates collector twenty-eight years ago, and was regarded as one of the most faithful and efficient officials in the City's service. He was founder and one of the charter members of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Victoria, and he was one of tho oldest members of the A.O.U.W. Lodge No. 1. He Is survived by a widow, two sons. Leon H. and Louis A., both of Victoria; one brother, Mr. H. Borde, of this City; two sisters, Mrs. Boucherat, of San Jose. Cal., and Mme. Lallier, of Paris, France.
The Borde family was one of Victoria's pioneer families. Louis Borde's grandfather, Jean, who was born in France, came to Victoria via San Francisco during the Fraser River gold rush in 1858. His father, Auguste Borde, was the water rates collector for the City of Victoria for many years, while his uncle, Hippolyte Borde, ran the popular Louvre Restaurant on lower Johnson Street.

Joining the line-up at Silverknowes terminus Volvo B5TL Wright Eclipse
Gemini 3, number 286 (BF63 HDC) makes its debut on Saturday the 29th of
March 2014.
It's always exciting when a new bus arrives at the depot and 286 is
Lothian's latest demonstrator which will work on Service 27 initially and
then on to Longstone and Marine depots during the year.
It's interesting to note all the new features on this five litre vehicle and
I really like the wrap-around panels at the rear and how the gold
line is much more vibrantly obvious.
Note the more narrow upper deck windows (compared to the B7TL infront) but
there's no loss of view from within the bus due to the slightly more robust
seats at a marginally higher level. And also there's a slight dome-effect at
the roof (compared to the B9TL at the front).
Very smart I'd say, I like!
