This is my step-father. For years he worked at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. In the early 90's the FWMSH and SMU began excavating a new dinosaur species near Stevenville, TX. As a kid I used to go out there alot to the several week long digs and as well as farting around the land, actually helped discover and excavate dinosaur fossils. This is a previsously unknown species and it was just named as the "Dinosaur of Texas".

Still under construction, Jim is working to help fit and construct parts.

Happy belated Halloween! I know I’m a little late this month but it’s better late than never.

Once again, Halloween was only days away and we had no plans. What to wear? How can we not be cliche? Endless google searches for costumes and ideas. And then the little “pop” on facebook. It was my friend Kyle Kesterson checking in on my Halloween plans. Since they didn’t exist, he proposed we add to his plans. He was planning on going as Jim Henson. Can you guess where we came in? Yeah, I guess the picture gives it away. Things started rolling that night and it was set. We were going to be the “Dead Muppets”.

Since Kyle possesses the art skills he took on the creative direction. He painted up my Kermit mask and made Kermit a zombie. With the Dominos $5.55 pizza deal and some Henry Wienhards in the fridge we got ready. It took us a few hours with all the make up and latex applications.

Of course a photo shoot was necessary.

We hit up the Atlantic Crossing for a drink before we headed down to the SODO for a Dubstep party. This party was pretty cool. Dancing, loud music, crazy costumes and one bathroom with a really long line. Ok, so the bathroom situation wasn’t cool but we still had a good time. We danced until our hips needed glucosamine (2 hours) and went home.

Here are a few more head shots from the night as well.

Jim Denevan is from outer space, I’m sure of it. The huge complex designs he carves into sandy beaches are out of this world. It may seem that he creates these works simply with a branch and patience, but Creative Tempest knows that Jim Denevan hovers above our beaches in a tiny UFO firing lasers down to send messages back to his home planet. If Jim Denevan is any indication of the artistic nature of his alien species, Creative Tempest welcomes the impending invasion. Find out more at www.creativetempest.com

In FontCast’s search for typographic designers with interesting stories to tell we knew we didn't have to go far to find Jim Parkinson — he's just across the water from FontShop San Francisco in Oakland.

Jim is a Bay Area native, returning after a short stint at Hallmark in Kansas City to design the iconic logotype for Rolling Stone during its heyday in the early ’70s. That work led to hundreds of other magazine and newspaper nameplates (Newsweek, Billboard, Esquire, LA Times), band logos, and typeface designs over the next four decades.

At 69, Jim is still going strong, wielding FontLab and paintbrush to create new works of art. We met him at his home studio to talk about letters and life, from the days of beatniks and hippies to his takes on art school and businessmen (AKA “cigar-smoking twits”).

Great friends from Chicago

Jim Thorpe is an old world charm located in the foothills of Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. Once considered to be the most richest town in the country, it's history speaks volumes.

Very close to numerous state parks and abundant beauty, the town in itself can provide muhc needed relief to many people who need it!

The best part - It is only 2 hours away from NYC or Philadelhia. Go there in any season and you will be pleasently surprised.
