An odd routing of CSX C776 across Conrail Shared Assets allowed for the chance to see a loaded coal train in North Jersey, seen here at Hillside passing the Irvington Industrial with the correct leader.

NJT 4109 poses for group 2 of the photographers participating in the URHS Night Shoot. I am a resident of Mountain Lakes the next town over so it was just a bike ride away. Upon arrival I had no idea how to shoot in the night, but the very kind people there guided me through it. A big thanks to everyone involved in getting that night all setup! And another shout out to William Bossert who helped me so much with a spare tripod! Taken 9/24/2022

Hoboken-bound Port Jervis Line train 74 is seen curving off its namesake line on the track connecting HX Draw to the NJ Transit Main Line. This connection allows Bergen County Line trains to use Secaucus Junction station rather than bypassing it - albeit close by - on the former Erie Railroad right-of-way.

Pascack Valley Line trains #2111 and #2112 meet at East Cole in Hackensack, NJ with two of the three remaining CNJ GP40PH-2s left in revenue service. These two units hold the record for longest units assigned to passenger service in America.

A short set taken in Jersey sometime during the 70's. I made 5 visits to island during that time, 3 work related and 2 holidays. These could have been taken on any one / combination of those visits. Island reasonably quiet in those days. Much busier when next I visited in 2011.

Not the best of quality, but memories are good to keep whatever the quality. Found accidentally looking for something else.

This was built in the early 19th century as a folly. The bedroom, living room and kitchen are in the hexagonal part of the building. The rectangular section is just for the staircase and toilet.

During World War 2, after the Germans invaded Jersey, they added a third floor and turned it into a look-out post. There's several bunkers very near by.

The third floor has horizontal slits for the look-out. The ceiling has the compass points N, S, O (i.e. Ost), W painted on it, and radian degree markings from 0 to 6400.

After the war it largely remained derelict until it was purchased and refurbished by the Landmark Trust. I met the previous owner who said farm workers used to use it, including a French man who called himself "Chef de la Tour"!

Been chasing this character for a few days now , first spotted and it was away on it's toes - not sure which of us was the most surprised , then it was a bit cat and mouse until the Tiger Moth , me and camera at the ready a few captures were made . When in flight you do not see the black and white markings but something that looks like a peacock butterfly .

I have to say unrelated , when seeing these , they do remind me of a miniature Vulcan Bomber in camouflage markings .

Jersey Tiger Euplagia quadripunctaria

(Poda, 1761)

Wingspan 42-52 mm.

One of the most attractive of the Tiger moths, this species was until recently restricted in distribution to the Channel Islands and parts of the south coast .

On the mainland it is commonest in south Devon, but colonies have recently appeared in Dorset and the Isle of Wight, and it has also been found in other southern counties.

It now seems to be expanding its range quite quickly. There is also a thriving population in parts of London, but whether this is due to range expansion or the result of accidental introduction is still unclear.

It flies both in the daytime, when it can be found feeding on various flowers, as well as at night, when it is attracted to light.

The main flight period is July to September. The hairy larvae feed on a range of herbaceous plants including nettle (Urtica).

I did see one of these a couple of years ago but only got a shot of the underside through the patio doors , please find link ------
