This is the base idea of this museum. Jersey was left undefended during World War II and all but handed over to the Nazis. This underground tunnel is set up as a museum, telling the chronological story of the German occupation.

The Palisades, also called the New Jersey Palisades or the Hudson Palisades are a line of steep cliffs along the west side of the lower Hudson River in northeast New Jersey and southern New York in the United States. The cliffs stretch north from Jersey City (where their emergence is called Bergen Hill) approximately 20 mi (32 km) to near Nyack, New York. They rise nearly vertically from near the edge of the river and are among the most dramatic geologic features in the vicinity of New York City, forming a canyon of the Hudson north of Fort Lee, as well as providing a vista of the New York City skyline.
These have to be the best new potatoes in the world, dug from the soil and sand of Jersey, especially these that are homegrown, that I get from an old lady in St Ouen. You get the chance...........try!!

During a visit to Jersey it seemed like a waste not to visit the underground hospital built while the Island was under German control
From wikipedia
Hohlgangsanlage 8 (often abbreviated to Ho8, also known as the German Underground Hospital or the Jersey War Tunnels) was a partially completed underground hospital complex in St. Lawrence, Jersey, built by German occupying forces during the occupation of Jersey during World War II. Over 1 km (1,100 yd) of tunnels were completed. After the liberation of the Channel Islands, the complex was converted into a museum detailing the occupation and remains a tourist attraction.
This shows one of the tunnels not completed before liberation day. The light at the end is actually the front entrance.
