This was built in the early 19th century as a folly. The bedroom, living room and kitchen are in the hexagonal part of the building. The rectangular section is just for the staircase and toilet.
During World War 2, after the Germans invaded Jersey, they added a third floor and turned it into a look-out post. There's several bunkers very near by.
The third floor has horizontal slits for the look-out. The ceiling has the compass points N, S, O (i.e. Ost), W painted on it, and radian degree markings from 0 to 6400.
After the war it largely remained derelict until it was purchased and refurbished by the Landmark Trust. I met the previous owner who said farm workers used to use it, including a French man who called himself "Chef de la Tour"!

These magnificent beasts are Texas Longhorns, descendants of Spanish retinto cattle stock brought to the new world by the conquistadors and also, the official large mammal of Texas. You can only imagine my surprise when I discovered that there was a small herd of them near me. They are being kept on a Colts Neck, New Jersey horse farm by a gentleman farmer who, according to his wife, keeps them because he likes the way they look.
It has been many years since I left Texas and just being able to stand near them and watch them for a while made me a bit homesick. They are gentle, beautiful animals that are delicious to eat and their hides make great leather furniture coverings.
Longhorn cattle are known for their ability to eat just about anything, their lower fat meat, resistance to disease, and the ability to live without water for several days. At one time, there were millions of Texas Longhorns across the American Southwest.

These are some shots from the North of Jersey. Shot in the middle of the day with sun and clouds around in early spring.
This a green lane or a bridleway, I can just imagine riding a mountain bike up here, for others a horse, but not a car and eapecially not a 4by4.
