Jeffrey was sitting with three of his friends under a warm air vent on Monroe between State and Wabash. He's been out here about three years. He was in the Marines beginning in 1978. "I've been in Iraq, the jungle, Japan--I know the world map now", he said with a smile. Every now and then, he'd exclaim "ooh rah!" He was very proud of his service in the Marines. He was very talkative and said way more than I could remember, but he was very friendly and generous. "I believe in giving back...even with what little I have, there are still ways you can help people. I had two sandwiches--I gave one away, and I was fine with that!" He looked after his friend, who was standing with a walker. He looked up at him and said, "He's dying". Fortunately, his friend (Lawrence) didn't hear him. But they stick together and that's a good thing.

I am missing Flickr. Went through some old pictures and words, interesting to see how I was feeling/ doing at a certain point in my life. Because life is different for me know. I miss trying out concepts and going out looking for inspiration - not necessarily with another model. Maybe I should try getting more into self portraits again. I have said it before (was it here?), it's in my head, but I just have to find the time. The weather is sunny today and I have a day off. I am going out today. Hopefully I'm coming back with something nice.

Jeffrey City began in 1931 as "Home On the Range, Wyoming," the 640-acre hahomestead of a Nebraska couple named the Petersons, who relocated because Mr. Peterson was sick after having been gassed in World War I. Mrs. Peterson opened two gas pumps when the highway came through, and began cooking for those who stopped. The Post Office at Split Rock, 14 miles away, closed in 1943, and Mrs. Peterson took up the task of handling the ranchers' mail. She canceled the letters with "Home on the Range." She retired her post office cancellation stamp in 1957 when Home on the Range became Jeffrey City. Her family members are currently restoring the old Home on the Range post office site.
