The JAEGER ARROW exiting the Port of Rotterdam to the North Sea

Subadult Long-tailed Jaeger (Stercorarius longicaudus) at Wisconsin Point, Douglas County, Wisconsin, 15 October 2010. First found by Erik Bruhnke on the 14th. At least one juvenile Pomarine (S. pomarinus) and four Parasitic Jaegers (S. parasiticus) were present for direct comparison. Note bill size and shape, wing shape, lack of breast band, and length of tail.

Sept. 15, 2013 Wild Research Pelagic trip to La Perouse Banks out of Ucluelet

These oceanic birds sometimes show up on the Great Lakes in the fall, but they're still quite rare and we were lucky to see this one. A tighter crop for those more interested in the bird than the context.
