Immature Long-tailed Jaeger washed up on the beach at Kiawah Island, SC on August 30, 2008. The effects of Hurricanes Gustav and Hanna were being felt in waters off SC in the days prior to this.

The bird was taken to the Kiawah Nature Center for transport to a wild bird rehabilitator just after the photo was taken.

I knit this in Jaeger Trinity yarn from the Jaeger JB15 book. That's the specified yarn, by the way.

I love the pattern, the cable was intriguing to do but the yarn is awful. It just hangs and has no life in it whatsoever. If it doesn't improve it will be finding its way to the charity shop!

I knit the body and the sleeves in the round.

We watched 5 different Parasitic Jaegers harass the gull and tern flock at Hollyrood Pond on 12 Jul 06.

This adult Pomarine Jaeger is showing pretty good spoon shaped tail streamers, a feature unique to the Pomarine Jaeger. Also the dark cap extends well below the eye, to the chin. Unusual on this individual is that it lacks a breast band, it may be a male.
