Finding a Parasitic Jaeger (Stercorarius parasiticus) resting on the shore was rare treat. It usually winters much farther off the coast, harassing other birds to give up their meals far from the sight of the shore.
Around 4 Jaegers were harassing hundreds of gulls at Wisconsin point (first parking lot) today. They put on a good show for the Jaegerfest event.

A grounded parasitic jaeger on the beach at Michigan City in the autumn of 1984, Much debate followed its presence there for several days where it was observed closely by many "experts". At first it was thought to be a pomarine jaeger, then a parasitic, then a pomarine, but later in the lab it was positively identified as a parasitic jaeger, post-mortem. I stuck with parasitic from the outset against more experienced jaeger experts. This bird was as close as 15 feet, while most jaegers are seen at 100 yards or more. How sure cam we be of the jaeger species being correctly identified at the fall lakefront watch at Marquette Park/Miller Beach. A digital scan from a Kodachrome slide. September 24, 1984

This is from my venture to St. Cloud this last week. I finally got to wander to Quarry Park with a buddy Steve, which I was really looking forward to, sadly we did not get to spend an ample amount of time, but enough for some great shots. I recommend clicking on "All Sizes" at the top of this photo
this watch was simply gorgeous. it's a reverso, and this is the back side. i love the sapphire leaves. at first i didn't notice that the gems are on the bracelette too, but i think it's a nice touch.
