Pomarine Jaeger photographed during a Brookline Bird Club pelagic trip from Hyannis, MA to Hydrographer Canyon on 18 July 2015.
We watched 5 different Parasitic Jaegers harass the gull and tern flock at Hollyrood Pond on 12 Jul 06.
This adult Pomarine Jaeger is showing pretty good spoon shaped tail streamers, a feature unique to the Pomarine Jaeger. Also the dark cap extends well below the eye, to the chin. Unusual on this individual is that it lacks a breast band, it may be a male.

A Parasitic Jaeger from the North Ocean Beach. Always a good bird from shore, even more so when they're close!!!!
Long-tailed jaeger (Stercorarius longicaudus) in Denali NP
The Long-tailed Jaeger is the smallest jaeger, with a slender body and narrow wings. During the breeding season, the adult has long central tail feathers that extend 5-10" beyond the rest of the tail, but from August to November, these are often broken or missing.
Breeding birds are found both near the coast and farther inland on sparsely vegetated, dry Arctic tundra. At other times of the year, Long-tailed Jaegers are highly pelagic, usually at least ten miles from land. They often spend time on offshore banks, in areas with schools of small fish near the surface, and near commercial fishing vessels.
I shot this New England seabird while walking on the beach in Gloucester MA. I took several pictures of this beautiful bird.
