so here's #5 of my jack johnson tributes. there won't be a whole lot more, but i have a few i just gotta do in the next few days...
to me, "times like these" is somewhat depressing and realistic at the same time. i am often quick to get on a bandwagon to do things politically, socially, environmentally, etc. however, when i step back and really look, i realize that some things are just going to continue to be the way they are. it's frustrating and freeing at the same time.
i've been told to just give it up at times. and to be honest, sometimes i feel like i should and often do. sometimes i don't do what i know i should or fight longer, stronger, louder. i do feel, however, that my small voice (even though i literally don't have a voice today...read on) is worth something. my contributions, although tiny do make small differences in the world. and being a teacher, i feel my example and attitude feeds into so many little minds. possibly, times like these will slowly improve???

today i was so sick all day. i have terrible allergies i guess. i have NO voice, major headache, congestion..... yesterday was CRAZY at work---trying to teach elementary kids are w/o a voice. not fun. again, times like these...what will be will be.

2003/06/19: The city of Buford erect a statue of Roy Rogers, Trigger and Jack Johnson, the last living Bona Allen saddle maker. In the late 1940s, Roy Rogers had a custom saddle made in the city of Buford. The Bona Allen factory also made custom saddles for the actors on the Bonanza show.
While the name Bona Allen is synonymous with the leather industry in Buford, it was his older brother, R.H. Allen, who established the first tanning operation here in late 1870, early 1871. R.H., though partially paralyzed and unable to walk, worked tirelessly. He traveled by goat cart soliciting business, selling hides, and manufacturing saddles, harnesses, bridles, and other leather goods.

spent the day with my brother and cousins clare and ruth and their respective partners tim and dan.. we took my great aunt out for dinner, to treat her, we don't show her our love enough.. she is my grandmothers sister and the matriarch of our family.. my grandmother died before i could meet her, when my father was just 15 and though none of us knew it when we were arranging it, today is her birthday, she would have been 81.
