Jack is the friendliest goat at Belmont Audubon Habitat, and will follow me around for pats and brushing. I have to put the camera down sometimes and use both hands on him.

I know it looks like a snowflake, and in real composition it is practically the same, but this is actually frost growing on the windshield of my truck right through the Rain-X.

Jack visited the farm today, and wasn't interested in my treats at first, but soon enjoying them. He's a natural model, and a very good boy.

I had attempted to hike to this area in May of this year but was forced to turn back due to the depth of the snow that had still remained. However, this attempt was successful.

Uncle Justas has a dog named Jack. That's his home when he is not behaving :)

Mangrove arial roots, Jack's Beach, Victoria

Jumping Jacks - This Red Phalarope was adorably bouncing up and down while bathing, almost looking like he was doing jumping jacks.

Myself and couple friends braved the windy roads, sand, muck, and rambunctious children at the beach to photograph this cooperative bird.

Red Phalaropes breed in the Arctic Tundra, so we were fortunate to photograph this male during a brief window before he fattened up on sand crabs and departed north.

The camera doesn't do full justice to this bird's striking rufous breeding plumage, but I was truly grateful to observe this lifer up close and come away with so many images.

In this surreal portrait, Chambers’ mother is the central figure, while his father’s encircles face is part of the seeds-flowers-planet vortex surrounding her. Both are further enshrined by the painted oval border, reminiscent of small, golden portrait frames, and by the bouquet of flowers at the lower edge. The painting is both a nostalgic evocation the artist’s parents and a more universal symbol of the cycle of life.

Jack Snipe at Restharrow Scrape Sandwich Kent

The Collins Bird Guide describes the habits of the Jack Snipe as secretive ‘skulking in often inaccessible patches’. On this occasion they came right out in the open for quite a long period of time. It was possible to see the metallic green and purple on the back.

They breed in Northern Scandinavia and Russia and winter in Western Europe and North Africa.

Here is another Jack Snipe in flight after I had unintentionally flushed it by almost standing on it. Though I much prefer to watch them on the ground without flushing. But they don't lend themselves to views on the ground as they hunker down and hide until you almost tread on them and they silently spring into the air to escape. They are only about half the body weight of Common Snipe (55g v 110g) and the bill is noticeably shorter. They also look darker and the pale tramlines down the back seem more prominent too. Common Snipe usually flush much earlier, and they turn and twist in flight while giving a sound like tearing cloth: www.xeno-canto.org/594199

And the title; Spring-heeled Jack was an English folklore character from the Victorian era. He was supposed to be of grotesque appearance but with extraordinary leaping powers.

These Black Jacks also know by its scientific name, bidens pilosa, was growing between the vineyards. I would have preferred to use my macro lens but did not have it with me. The 24-105 does not have an extremely close focusing distance but I made it work. I think the photo still came out alright.

This photo was taken in March 2015 with a Canon 5D MkIII, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM

I've wanted to get a photo of the whole circle of 9 VWs at Bus Jack, a discontinued Airbnb and maybe an art installation in the Chihuahuan Desert near Big Bend in Terlingua Ranch. However, this is the best I could presently do, not having a drone.

Fungi have some great names, I found this specimen in Clandeboye estate.

I know a guy called Jack, a slippery customer who'd sell his own granny to get ahead, seems an appropriate name!
