Jacaranda is a genus of 49 species of flowering plants in the family Bignoniaceae, native to tropical and subtropical regions of Mexico, Central America, Argentina South America, Cuba, Florida, Hispaniola, Jamaica, and the Bahamas.
Finally stopped and took a moment to photograph these in full bloom. I love how Brisbane explodes with these amazing colours every year.
In March or April, the straggly Jacaranda trees come to life in a blaze of delicate lilac. When you fly in over Mexico City or drive through Queretaro, you see the smudges of lilac everywhere and it is a truly glorious sight.

Although this tree, which can grow to about 10 m (33 ft) in height, is native to South and Central America, it is now widely used the world over as an ornamental tree in dry tropical climates.
Definitely among my top 3 favourite kinds of trees ever. I wish they grew here, too. :(
