..like that small light at the end of the tunnel that keeps you going. Tiling is being done next Wednesday - fingers crossed:-)

Modeling clay is fun to work with. One of my hobbies is dollhouse building, and this hanging flower basket was my first clay project. Not sure what type of flower I made, but the pink is pretty anyway.
like 'chasing' a butterfly in a field of corn, with your camera, trying to get a shot and just about succeeding
I was waiting for Phill to get some shots and amused myself by tracking the butterfly.

............that should have been bigger things. Phill and I love butternut squash so he took the seeds from one we bought and decided to grow them himself. The plant itself was huge but, as you can see, the produce is not. I was going to place an apple against them (they are smaller than an apple) to give you an idea of just how small they are but Kaiser photo bombed the shot and his expression says it all really.
Perhaps a keen gardener will be able to explain why when we we ended up with miniature pumpkins!

Now there are two little things here. One is the fact I shot this through a tiny wired fence and managed to get a shot without wire in it - yeah! And the second thing is that this isn't a peacock but a peacock pheasant who is definitely a little thing compared to a proper peacock

18/52 Now that George is retired and home during the day, the cats get to spend more time outside which means I get greeted in the parking lot instead of at the front door. This might look like a dangerous "little thing" but since I work a very early shift there are very few cars around when I get home.
BTW If you have both a cat and a dog you may not want to use Advantix (flea and tick control) on your dog. Its active ingredient is permethrin which is effective on dogs but unfortunately very toxic to cats. Yesterday, a client accidentally applied the dog's Advantix to her cat, realized her mistake and rushed the cat to our vet practice. Twenty four hours later, Milo still has nearly constant muscle tremors and occasional seizures. Even with intensive care, the first 24-48 hours are very touch and go and the fatality rate is relatively high. If the symptoms are gone after 48-72 hours, recovery is usually 100% with few or no side effects. After doing some research online last night, I saw that Advantix boxes have a universal warning that the product is NOT to be used on cats (a drawing of a cat with a line through it), however, it seems the surest way to prevent this accidental poisoning is to just not have the product in your house.
We bought a lemon tree last year for our patio and we were thrilled when it produced FOUR perfect lemons. This year our little tree is covered with blossoms. Yep, it's the little things.
I take them for granted, but clothes pegs are very useful little things and when you add googly eyes, even more fun lol.
While putting out some washing I had an idea and hey presto :) It tickled me, even more so when I added some thought bubbles :)
Pegs are very handy, but not when they are easily distracted lol.

This little jewel of a meadowhawk was about an inch long, and when we were out walking I first thought it was one of the several gold colored moths that were flitting around. When I took a closer look, I realized what it was and (duh) took some shots. Blue background is our lake.
These little wildflowers are about a quarter of an inch in size. I consider them 'little beauties' even though they tend to spread.

Benni and I went to San Juan Capistrano yesterday morning, a nice cool, cloudy day, and bought our first strawberries. They were ripe, sweet and so beautiful, just picked in the field by the fruit stand earlier in the morning.

I found this pink marshmallow lying on a path this morning, probably dropped by a child going to school (they should eat a proper breakfast lol).
Anyway the marshmallow was in perfect condition, apart from being slightly squished :) Apparently being squished is good, as pink marshmallow is smiling! I decided to bring it home and added some googly eyes and hey presto, instant humour. His name is squishy
Flickr autotags are on top form again, bird & animal lol.
A first for me to see one of these very beautiful little butterflies on my Lavender this year.
Always a delight to see the insects enjoying the abundant flowers.. Loving the lavender, it's put on another beautiful display this year although it's now past it's best so I'm making the most of it while there are a few flowers left before Autumn begins.
Happy Beautiful Bug Butt Thursday to you all! xx
25/52 This bakery used to be called Witherspoon Bread Company and makes the very best baguettes. Once or twice a month I buy one on my way to work to share with a coworker. He's in his 60s, from Bulgaria and pretty unhappy - I think it's partly because his MIL lives with him. He doesn't speak much English but when he sees a still-warm baguette, I get a big smile in return. Much of the year it's still dark out when I drive to work and this little bakery is the only shop on the street that's open. The light inside is warm and inviting and the windows are steamy. A warm baguette on a cold, dark morning is definitely one of those little things.
I won't bore you with the 100s of things that conspired to make the picture I wanted impossible to take.

.............like finding hidden treasures. When we were walking at Portland Bill, we found this little painted stone hidden along one of the paths. If you check out in the comments below you will see it had a message on the back.

28/52 I took advantage of the rain this past week to add some color to my photostream.
This spring, when I was buying what I thought were pansies, the tags kept calling them violas. I finally googled pansies vs violas and here's what I found.
All pansies are violas but not all violas are pansies.
"Fun Fact: If the flower has four petals pointing upward and only one pointing downward – you’re looking at a Pansy. If the flower has two petals pointing upward and three petals pointing downward – you’ve got a Viola."

27/52 By some unspoken rule, the "special needs" boarding cats - for instance geriatric or diabetic cats - have become my responsibility (under the doctors' supervision) on the shifts I work. Many cats don't eat for a day or two when they first come to board because they are too nervous. I feel bad they are so nervous but I know they'll be OK. However, diabetic cats MUST eat. As you may be able to tell from this picture, Magic spent his first 24 hours under his towel - NOT eating. I tried every variety of prescription diabetic food we have - wet and dry, pate and "savory selects" in gravy and nothing. I tried tasty junk food and nothing again. I tried slipping his food under his towel with him and still nothing. We were getting to the point where we were going to have to test his blood glucose level to determine if, or how much, insulin to give him. I was just about to walk out the door at the end of my shift and have him be someone else's responsibility when I saw him peek outside his towel and eat some of his Purina DM Savory Selects wet food for about 45 seconds and something huge inside me lightened up. I was so thrilled to see him eating that I, of course, didn't want to open his cage door to get a better picture of him. Any cat who eats while boarding is a happy, little thing.
By the way, if you ever have to board your cat and the vet asks for your permission to give an appetite stimulant if needed - please say yes. For those who feel reluctant to give their cats medication, know that the appetite stimulants used are very safe and the risk of the medication is so much less than the risk to your cat of not eating - especially if it is overweight or diabetic. Often one dose is enough to get a cat to eat and that first meal is all it takes to jump-start their appetite and no further doses are needed.
11/52 Jimmy and Mack are not THAT bad about urinating inappropriately but it makes my heart sing every single time I see them urinating outside.
It's the little things..... 23/52 Outside pottering around, open the door to come inside and find this pair waiting for me (Fran pretending not to care). :-))
These filled eggs were a favorite of our friend who sadly died yesterday, so they make me think at the many times I made them when he came along.

Last summer I uncovered a new interest. My Fairy Garden was a little thing, really, but it gave me great joy.
And I have ALWAYS been inordinately mad for Holly Hocks.
So just imagine the thrill of finding this fairy house, yesterday in Vancouver, with its holly hock roof.
Spring? Bring it on!
It was a hot day at the park and my dear, little great-granddaughter was in need of some rest. We found a picnic table with a big umbrella, so I set out the beverages and lunch I had packed. My husband captured the moment when she sweetly offered me a blueberry before she had eaten one herself.
when i saw this lace in the straight up dirtiest, darkest corner
of a junk shop that was never so true to its name.
i sneezed at least 5 times as i waited to pay.
worth every bit the tickle in the nose
and the 25 cents.
Lily only likes it if you have a rug on your knee. Usually she just jumps up and off again a few times but today she settled down for a sleep. I felt very privileged!
This isn't my camera; I like my little Canon point and shoot. This is my son's set up as he was taking a photo in our back yard.
Cameras bring the world together and they made possible our Little Things group, so thanks to all who participated so we could see what matters to people like us, people who love photography.

... until the fire department show up!
What can happen if you forget to open the windows/doors of the party room before lighting a load of sparklers. Oopsie.
But they were quite gracious about it all and actually they suggested the photo with the birthday grrl. ;p

.............that sometimes keep you alive. Sounds rather dramatic I know but these little pills are steroids which, when you have asthma, can make all the difference to whether you breath or not. I rarely have to take them; in fact the last time I took them was 5 years ago. They are really tiny (they are sitting in a teaspoon so you get the idea. I had to take six in one go, once a day for five days last week when I was not well. So just a short, sharp dose was all that was required to get me back on track. Thank goodness I wasn't born before these were made - I would have been a goner back when I was 26 years old. It was the first attack I ever had and I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, blue lights flashing, thinking I was definitely going to die as I could hardly draw a breath. Once in hospital I was Intravenously 'fed' steroids in huge doses and eventually after a week my airways cleared. The asthma had been brought on by dust caused by building work at the place I was then employed. Though I used to get very ill back then after I had first been diagnosed, I have never had another attack like it and I hope I never will. Just two puffs on my steroid spray morning and night and all is usually well. I love these little things:-)

...........like wanting to walk on walls. Do you remember when you were a small child and every wall you came to you would want to climb up and walk along it. Your mum would tell you that it was someone's house and you weren't allowed on their wall or, if it was a wall you could clamber on, it took you an absolute age and she would be saying "come on we don't have time for this". Georgia is at the age where she wants to do this all the time. This dog trotting along the wall at Keyhaven brought the memories back
