I cried when I looked at this. But you were happy yesterday. The tattoo is new and the cuts are old. They are healing. I love you and I'm proud of your bravery. I'm sorry people did this to you, that people can misunderstand the way we love the same way they do. And you heal so many people now. I think you are wonderful.

A message to young gay and lesbian teens who struggle with daily harassment and who find it difficult to cope. Hang in there...it gets better.
It gets better.
I know it's hard to believe it.
Some days it's hard for me to believe, too.
But believe it, because you have to be around to see this amazing life.
I could tell you 'till I'm blue in the face.
I could write it out for you on pieces of paper, cut up, ready to blow away at once.
Believe it. For me. For you. For all the young people who are hurting right now.
Inspired by "It Gets Better" project on YouTube, a movement to help LGBTQ youth know that they're not alone.
Photo execution inspired, in part, by this great photo from Tyreke White.
I don't exactly remember who/what this guy was walking to, but it could have very likely been the guy who Sami and I were standing next to the whole time: Ryan (last name?) We deduced that his name is Reichen Lehmkuhl from the Amazing Race. The entire time people kept on going up to him to hug him or take pictures with him, but neither we nor the two people in front of us knew who he was...so finally we had the guy in front of us ask.
His face plus a few other happy/adorable people (including Dan Savage--founder of itgetsbetter.org and his partner, Terry) in comments.
