Here's another close-up of an iris. Reminds me of some sea creature or underwater plant.

This photo was taken 5 April 2011 in the Houston Arboretum, Houston, TX, US, using a Nikon D90.

My mother's garden.

Irises in bloom in the iris garden.

So many beautiful flowers this time of year: Poppies, Iris and soon it will be Peony time. Thanks to a generous neighbour we still have these Iris year after year. He was elderly at the time and we have kept his flowers going all these years.

It's 1 December 2009 and there is an Iris blooming in the garden - this sort of thing is supposed to happen in May - I guess it's another indication that the climate is really changing.

I planted these bulbs 4 or 5 years ago and up til now have only ever gotten a leaf or 2. Pulled into the driveway and saw this, and you could have knocked me over with a feather.

About 35 years ago I dug the parent plant of this iris out of a patch of ground that was going to be converted into a parking lot. They're still blooming prolifically today.

Applying my newly acquired lighting skills on the Iris in our front yard. I put a black reflector behind the flower and then lit it with a handheld off-camera flash zoomed to 105mm.

It was fun to see how leaves and petals interwove in this image.

The community garden at LaGuardia Place is being endangered by the expansionThe community garden at LaGuardia Place is being endangered by the expansion of NYU. It's a shame that NYU would do such a thing as to take away this beautiful community garden. The folks who tend to and care for the garden grow such amazing looking flowers and plants. It's a great place for a visit. On this particular day, the roses were in full bloom and we just had to stop by for a wander.

This image was shot just after a spring shower. I have used the water bottle technique before, but on this one, I wanted to point out that it wasn't "faked".

Luckily I was standing in front of the first iris of the season when the sun broke through the clouds for all of 30 seconds.
